ディスク1は「イマジン」「クリップルインサイド」「ジェラスガイ」「イッツソーハード」の4曲のアウトテイクを収録。デモから始まりスタジオで徐々に完成されていく様子が生々しく収録されています。「ジェラスガイ」に関しては、元々「Child Of Nature」というタイトルで、同じメロディでありながら歌詞が全く異なるという興味深いもの。

ディスク2は「イッツソーハード」、「兵隊にはなりたくない」「真実が欲しい」の3曲のアウトテイクを収録。特に「真実が欲しい」は喉よ裂けよとばかりにジョンが早口でまくしたてるヴォーカルが素晴らしいアルバムのハイライトともいえる曲ですが、そのアウトテイク、別ヴォーカルが聴けるというのはまさにコレクターで良かったと思える瞬間です。

ディスク3は、ほとんど1枚「Oh My Love」に費やされます。美しいメロディを持ち、それを最大限活かすためか、簡素なアレンジで仕上げられていますが、それに反してスタジオではこのように繰り返しテイクが重ねられているのが驚きです。

ディスク4は、まるまる「How Do You Sleep」のセッションが収録されています。ジョンの怨念というか怨嗟がこめられた（笑）、ポールへのあてつけの曲。サージェントペパーズふうのイントロから始まり、「イエスタディ」をポール初のソロシングル「アナザーディ」を引き合いに出し皮肉を加えるなど、歌詞内容は辛辣なもの。ジョージがセッションに参加しているのも、ポールの心を傷つけたのではと想像します。ジョンがバンドに対し「もっと憎しみを込めてやれ！」などと指示を出しているのも、ファンとしてはつらいものがあります。

ディスク5は「How」「Oh Yoko」の他、同時期のアルバム未収録曲のアウトテイク、ピアノデモを収録しています。重苦しい空気が一気に晴れるような美しい「How」に始まり、陽気な「Oh Yoko」でアルバムを締めくくるという、この2曲でアルバム全体が救われたような絶妙の曲順です。

そしてディスク6は1970年に収録されたピアノデモの他、ショートフィルム「Clock」のサウンドトラック、そして「イマジン」のラフミックスを収録したアセテート音源を収録。

最後にジャケット写真にも触れておきましょう。「イマジン」といえば物憂い表情のジョンのアップに雲がかかっている写真が有名です。この雲は一節によるとジョンが超能力ないし霊能力で出したエクトプラズムだと何かの本に書いてありましたが、真偽のほどはどうなのでしょうか。本作のスリップケースのフロントに使われている写真はオリジナル・アルバムの珍しいアウトフォトです。写真の具合によって全く異なる印象を与えるジョンですが、オリジナルのものより若々しく、より、この時代のジョンらしい風貌に見えます。また中のジャケットに使われている写真はもう1枚別のアウトフォトで、こちらは目に雲がかかっているためボツになったのでしょう。いずれにせよ雲の位置や形状が流動的であることから、この雲は合成ではなくリアルタイムで撮影されたものに違いなく、その正体が気になるところです。

Mクローデルの最新作は、ジョンの名盤「イマジン」のセッションを、このようにディスク6枚に渡ってアルバム収録曲順にアウトテイクなどスタジオ・セッション音源を収録。さらに同時期のセッション、デモ、アセテートなどを徹底的に網羅した初登場音源を含む決定盤タイトルです。これ以上のものは今後も出ないでしょう。ジャケットには珍しいアウトフォトを使用し、美しいピクチャー・ディスク仕様の永久保存がっちりプレス盤。スリップケース付。
