ジェフ・ベックの怒涛の超高音質セット「TOKYO DOME CITY HALL 2014」が大ヒット街道爆走中ですが、店には連日「俺のも凄いぞ、聴いてくれ」とばかりに数多くの音源マスターが集まってきています。傑作「TOKYO DOME CITY HALL 2014」をリリースした後では「もうTDCH音源はもういいかな」と思ってしまっていた私たちでしたが、こんな凄い音源が来てしまった日には、もう動かないわけにはいかなくなりました。「じゃ、ギフトで良いじゃん」と思われるかもしれませんが、こんな凄い録音を、「2セットご購入の皆様に・・・」等とやっていたら、もう自分たちもわけが判らなくなってしまいます。とにかく、この録音は凄い！！！収録されているのはタイトル通り、東京ドーム・シティ・ホールの2日目と3日目の4月8日と9日のライヴ。注目はディスク１＆２に収録された2日目音源で、同時リリースのDAT音源「DEFINITIVE 2ND NIGHT」も凄い録音でしたが、この音の近さはまさに圧巻。事実、「DEFINITIVE 2ND NIGHT」と「TOKYO DOME CITY HALL 2014」が9列目、10列目の左寄りからの録音でしたが、本盤はアリーナ右ブロック2列目（センター寄り）。ゆえにど真ん中からズドーン！と凄まじいばかりの爆音が飛び出してきます。まさに、オン、ダイレクトを象徴するような圧巻のサウンド。それでいて、イコライズ感皆無の聴きやすいナチュラルなサウンド。この自然でピチピチしたサウンドは、すでに老人一歩手前の私たちリスナーの耳を強烈に刺激してくれます。「あー化粧っ気のない、あるがままの素のサウンドはやっぱり良いなー」とその理想的音像に、ただただ呑み込まれ、聴き入ってしまいます。別に前の方だから良い音が録れるわけではないことは、今までの経験から言って十分に判っているのですが、この音の近さはやはり凄いものがあります。地響きを立てながら戦車軍団が目の前を通り過ぎていくような強烈な音の感触は、ベック一座の演奏を最大限に引き立たせてくれます。端正な音像が魅力の「DEFINITIVE 2ND NIGHT」(DAT録音盤）とは対象的なサウンドですが、これはこれで圧巻の音の説得力。もうすでに判り切っているコンサート内容だからこそ、また違った音色で楽しんでみたいというのが真の音マニア。そういったファンには本盤は外せません。代わってディスク３＆４に収録された9日・東京最終日。「TOKYO DOME CITY HALL 2014」がバルコニー一列目下手寄りに対し、こちらはアリーナ右ブロック17列目より録音。端正な音像といった意味では既発に軍配が上がりますが、単純に音の近さを取ったら、これはもう本盤の圧勝です。ギターの音の近さといったら尋常ではない程のテイストでスピーカーからガンガン飛び出してきます。これもまたノンイコライズのピュアな音像が魅力の最高音質テイク。ストーンズのオレンジスリーが「TOKYO DOME CITY HALL 2014」と言ったら次の段ボール・スリーが本盤と言えるのではないでしょうか。いやー、正直、どちらも本当に素晴らしいわけですが・・・。とにかくピュア＆ダイレクトをお好みなら、迷わず本盤！！限定4枚組プレスCDでリリース決定です！（ちなみに、このテーパーさんのTOTOのTDCH音源が来週プレスで出ますが・・・これも本当に凄いです！！乞うご期待！）
