そんな本作に収められているのは「2006年７月22日：フジスピードウェイ公演」。この日は、日本洋楽史に残る伝説でした。「ウッドストックの興奮が甦る！」と銘打ち、大手音楽事務所が看板まで掲げた大規模なロック・フェス。２日間で30組のバンド／ミュージシャンが登場し、そこにはKISSやSANTANA、ポール・ロジャース、THE DOOBIE BROTHERS、ALICE IN CHAINS等々、ロック・シーンを代表する新旧の大物たちが名を連ねていました。しかし、フタを明けてみると記録的な不入り。アクセスの悪すぎるロケーションのせいか、雨のパラつく天候のせいか、ラインナップと価格設定がミスマッチだったのか……原因はともあれ、会場はガラガラ。ビニールシートやイスまで持ち出して眺める観客も多数見かけ、マイナーな若手のステージに至っては観客が一桁のことも。KISSのポール・スタンレーも「たくさんの人が来てくれて……おい、後ろを振り向くな！」とMCしたとか、しなかったとか。とにかく強烈に不名誉な伝説を残したのです。
ともあれ、そんな伝説フェスにジェフも参加。初日のモビリタ・ステージの準トリで出演しました。その模様はプロショットで撮影され、某民放局でも放送。本作は、そんなマルチカメラ・プロショットの最高峰版なのです。実際、そのクオリティは鉄壁。当店では国内の記録マニアによる極上マスターで数々のロック放送をアーカイヴしてきましたが、本作もその１つ。ノイズもなければ劣化も見られない画面は単に21世紀放送というだけでは説明の付かないレベルで、まさにオフィシャル級の映像美が止めどもなく溢れるのです。もちろん、音声も撮影も然り。ジェフ人気の高い日本だけに曲想をきちんと理解したカメラワークは素晴らしく、まだ日の高い現場はステージの隅々までくっきり。４人編成にはやや広すぎ巨大ステージのスケール感もしっかりと感じられます。
その映像美で描かれるショウも実に素晴らしい。このUDO MUSIC FESTIVALは「大人の夏フェス」をテーマに掲げていましたが、まさに言い得て妙。実のところ、ジェフは１年前の2005年７月にジャパンツアーを行ったばかりでしたが、その際はジミー・ホールも同行する歌入り。それに対し、本作では完全インスト・ステージでギターをたっぷりと聴かせてくれるのです。セットはフェス用の短めのもので、2005年からヴォーカル・ナンバーだけを抜いたスタイル。2006年と言えば公式ライヴアルバム『ライヴ・ベック ’06』もリリースされましたが、そこでは聴けない「People Get Ready」も見られます。さらに2005年と異なるのはメンバー。前回来日後にベースがピノ・パラディーノからランディ・ホープ・テイラーにチェンジ。ランディはアシッドジャズの代名詞INCOGNITOでの活動でも知られるスゴ腕であり、その生まれ変わったアンサンブルをオフィシャル級のクオリティで楽しめるわけです。
また、本作は現場のムードも見どころ。先述の通り、このフェスは不名誉な伝説で知られるわけですが、その客席は……意外と普通。ジェフの人気が高いこともありますが、それにしてもちゃんと客が入っており、伝説は伝説でも都市伝説だったのではないか。そんな風に思えるのです。しかし、これはプロショットならではのマジックかも知れません。よくよく見ていると、客席の風景はやけに角度が狭く、似たアングルが繰り返される。恐らくは人気の少ない場所をわざわざ避け、最前付近を重点的に編集しているようにも見える。ところどころで、客席を舐めまわすような遠景ショットも混じるのですが、そこでは急に人口密度が下がり、シートを広げる観客もチラホラ映る……以前「レンズは嘘をつきません」というテレビCMもありましたが、レンズに嘘をつかせる事は出来るのかも知れません。

フェスは伝説を残しましたが、そこで繰り広げられるジェフの演奏は最高でした。本作は、その一部始終をオフィシャル級の極上クオリティで楽しめるマルチカメラ・プロショット。ぜひ、この機会に最高峰版でご体験ください。
