80年代メイデンにとって、“SOMEWHERE ON TOUR”は目玉中の目玉。かなり公式アーカイヴの進んでいるバンドではあるものの、“WORLD PIECE TOUR”と“SOMEWHERE ON TOUR”は公式のフルライヴ作品がない。フルをあきらめれば“WORLD PIECE TOUR”にはドルトムント公演のプロショットもありますが、“SOMEWHERE ON TOUR”にはそうした部分的なものもなく、一切のオフィシャル記録が残されていない。さらに言えば「このツアーだけのレア曲」も多く、映画『ブレードランナー』を模した世界観も独特。あらゆる意味でコレクター心をくすぐる秘境のツアーなのです。

これが“SOMEWHERE ON TOUR”の全体像。ざっくり「1986年＝欧州」「1987年＝その他」となっており、本作のフィラデルフィア公演は、後半戦の序盤「北米」レッグ６公演にあたるコンサートでした。
本作は、そんなショウを記録した全世界初公開と鳴るライヴアルバム。このショウは“SOMEWHERE ON TOUR”で唯一のマルチカメラ・プロショットが残されたことでも有名ですが、本作はオーディエンス録音ですから当然完全に別音源。しかし、当然ではないのはクオリティでして、プロショットのサウンドボード音声にも劣らない……と言いますか、勝っているのです！
とにかく驚くのはオンで力強い芯。距離感もなくグイグイと目の前に迫り、それに伴ってディテールも詳細。実は、この録音をモノにしたのは日本人。当店では来日公演のプレス作品を数多く手掛けている名手中の名手なのですが、この人物が80年代に渡米した際に現場録音したマスターからダイレクトにデジタル化したものなのです。
それだけに、ド密着感に加えて鮮度が凄い。サウンドボードでは味わえなかったスペクタクルや安定感も絶大なのです。そもそもプロショット音声はサウンドボードとは言ってもモノラルでマスター劣化のチリチリも散見。しかも、激レア＆最重要曲「Caught Somewhere in Time」にノイズが入るのは大罰点でした。ところが、本作はサウンドボードに肉薄するド密着＆極上感でありつつシームレスに美しい。もちろん、時代柄カセット録音ですからテープチェンジもあるわけですが、そこはサウンドボード音現で補填し、（アンコール待ちのパートを除き）フルショウを完全体験できるのです。
そんなサウンドで描かれるのは、マニアが追い求めて止まない“SOMEWHERE ON TOUR”のフルショウ。プロショットと違って全曲収録でもありますが、同時に『死霊復活』『MAIDEN ENGLAND』といった公式ライヴ作でも聴けないレパートリーもポイント。まとめて整理してみましょう。

Although this work is not perfect such as incomplete recording such as warp in “Caught Somewhere In Time” which is the centerpiece and voice with noise, it is still a great multi-camera professional shot only tour. The stage that recreates the jacket world of the masterpiece “SOMEWHERE IN TIME” and the brilliantly glowing Bruce Dickinson costume full of lights are all valuable. The performance that loses the words “I can’t move so often with such a heavy costume …” is amazing because it’s a video.
