HELLOWEEN & GAMMA RAY’s coupling tour “HELLISH ROCK”, which became the supreme melodic power metal and later became a guidepost to PUMPKIN UNITED. Two original recordings that convey the performance in Japan will be released at the same time! It is a sister work that allows you to fully experience live in Japan twice in the same recorder collection !!
The performance of “HELLISH ROCK” in Japan was realized in 2008 and 2013, but this work is the former live album. This is a powerful audience recording of “February 11, 2008: Namba Hatch Performance”. Anyway, first of all, the position of the show. It’s also a good opportunity, so let’s look back on the two episodes of 2008/2013 and confirm the position of the sister work.

Above, all 6 + 5 = 11 performances. Both of these sister works are live albums performed in Osaka. This work recorded at such a site is a direct sound with a powerful and thick core approaching a fastball. Anyway, the feeling of close contact with zero sense of distance is amazing. I am also sucking in real enthusiasm, and above all, it was handed over from the recording person himself, so there is no doubt that it is an audience, but even if I listen with headphones, I can not feel the hall ringing component, and it jumps into my ears without a time lag. The sensation is far from the audience. Furthermore, there is no strangely close voice around me. Of course, since it is a live performance of two melodic power metal giants, the audience is singing very loudly, but it is far from the performance. The huge singing does not block the thick core.
There is also a reason why this work has become such a sound. After all, the person who worked on this work is Mr. “West Japan’s strongest taper” who is familiar in our shop. At that time, “Mr. Strongest” was in the early days of training, and to be honest, this work is not as glossy as modern recording. It’s so powerful that it can be a limiter at peaks. However, this soundboard-like close contact is definitely the “strongest” sound. Although rough-cut, the scales of talent and unique aesthetics are still alive in this work.
The super direct sound is drawn by the brother band Gachinko confrontation that every metal person dreamed of. Both of them at that time released the official live albums “HELL YEAH! THE AWESOME FOURSOME” and “THE LEGACY WORLD TOUR 2005/2006” together, so let’s organize them by comparing them here.

The GAMMMA RAY version is covered with the official live version, but the HELLOWEEN version has a large amount of “GAMBLING WITH THE DEVIL” that came out after the live version. Even more delicious is the famous medley that lasts about 16 minutes. The arrangement that the snow falls into “Keeper Of The Seven Keys” after folding up the famous songs of the Andi Deris era is a little forcible, but probably because the original song is also composed like a medley, it arrives after a big chorus. The big circle is also very moving.
And after that, the co-starring time of waiting (?). He cheats on Kai Hansen’s major songs “Future World” and “I Want Out”. We now know the more luxurious PUMP KIN UNITED, but we don’t know the site of this work (laughs). The scene where Kai and Weikath line up is so hot that the whole venue sings. The duet version by Kai and Andy is also valuable, but it is a live album with a delicious sense of presence in the space of joy.
HELLOWEEN and GAMMA RAY, the ancestors and champions of melodic power metal. It is a luxurious 3-disc set where you can enjoy the whole coupling show. Of course, PUMP KIN UNITED, which has achieved a fusion, is also wonderful, but it is even hotter because it scrapes the ho, and you can enjoy a huge number of masterpieces. “HELLISH ROCK”の来日公演は2008年と2013年に実現したわけですが、本作は前者のライヴアルバム。「2008年２月11日：なんばHatch公演」の強力オーディエンス録音です。何はともあれ、まずはショウのポジション。良い機会でもありますので、2008年／2013年の２回分をまとめて振り返り、姉妹作のポジションを確かめてみましょう。

以上、全６＋５＝11公演。今回の姉妹作は両方とも大阪公演のライヴアルバムです。そんな現場で記録された本作は、力強く極太な芯がド直球に迫るダイレクト・サウンド。とにかく距離感ゼロの密着感が凄い。リアルな熱狂も吸い込んでいますし、何より録音家本人から譲られたのでオーディエンスで間違いないのですが、ヘッドフォンで耳を澄ませてもホール鳴り成分が感じられず、タイムラグなしに耳に飛び込んでくる感覚はオーディエンス離れしている。さらに言えば、周囲に不思議なほど間近声がない。もちろん、メロディック・パワーメタル２大巨頭のライヴですから、観客は大いに盛大に歌いまくっているのですが、それが演奏よりも遙か遠く。巨大な唱和が極太な芯を遮らないのです。
本作がそれほどのサウンドになったのも理由がある。何しろ、本作を手掛けたのは当店でもお馴染みの名手“西日本最強テーパー”氏。当時の“最強氏”は修業時代とも言える初期でして、正直なところ本作は現代録音ほどの艶はない。あまりにもパワフルなためにピークでリミッター気味になったりもします。しかし、このサウンドボード的な密着感は、間違いなく“最強氏”サウンド。荒削りながらも、才能の鱗片や独特な美学は本作にもしっかりと息づいているのです。
そんな超ダイレクト・サウンドで描かれるのは、メタル者なら誰もが夢見た兄弟バンドのガチンコ対決。当時の両者は公式ライヴアルバム『HELL YEAH! THE AWESOME FOURSOME』『THE LEGACY WORLD TOUR 2005/2006』を揃ってリリースした時期でもありますので、ここで比較しながら整理しておきましょう。

……と、このようになっています。GAMMMA RAY篇は公式ライヴ盤とだいぶ被っていますが、HELLOWEEN篇はライヴ盤の後に出た『GAMBLING WITH THE DEVIL』を大量投入。さらに美味しいのが約16分に及ぶ名曲メドレー。アンディ・デリス時代の名曲群を畳みかけまくった後に「Keeper Of The Seven Keys」に雪崩れ込むアレンジはやや強引でもありますが、原曲もメドレーのような構成なせいか大合唱に次ぐ大合唱を経てたどり着く大団円もえらく感動的です。
そして、その後はお待ちかね（？）の共演タイム。カイ・ハンセン作曲の大代表曲「Future World」「I Want Out」をブチかましてくれる。現在の私たちはもっと豪華なPUMPKIN UNITEDも知ってはいますが、本作の現場は知らない（笑）。カイとヴァイキーが並び立つ光景に沸き立つ現場はめちゃくちゃ熱く、会場中が歌いに歌う。カイとアンディによるデュエット・バージョンも貴重ですが、それ以上に歓喜の空間に立ち会う臨場感が美味しいライヴアルバムなのです。
メロディック・パワーメタルの始祖にして、王者でもあるHELLOWEENとGAMMA RAY。そのカップリング・ショウを丸ごと味わえる豪華３枚組です。融合を果たしたPUMPKIN UNITEDも勿論素晴らしいですが、鎬を削るからこそ一層熱く、膨大な名曲も楽しめる。その特別な現場を超ダイレクト・サウンドで体験できる姉妹作。どうぞ、併せてたっぷりとお楽しみください。
