1991年、ドラマーとキーボードを新たに加えレコーディングを行ない、待望のセカンド・アルバムがリリースされるというニュースは世界を駆け巡った。そして、あたかも4年という長期間の鬱憤を晴らすかの如くファンに提示されたのは実質的なダブル・アルバムであった。1992年にスプリングスティーンは『Lucky Town』と『Human Touch』という2枚の異なるアルバムを同日リリースしているが、ガンズは『Use Your Illusion』という共通タイトルで、それぞれVol.1とVol.2という形態でのバラしてのリリースであった。パンキッシュなファースト・アルバムに対し、『Use Your Illusion』はキーボード・メンバーが加わっただけあって音に厚みが増し、まるでビートルズのホワイトアルバムのようにハードロック、バラード、古きロックンロール、そしてカバー曲など、多種多様な曲調が同じアルバムに混在、しかもそれが美しい調和を保ち違和感なく並んでいるという名盤に仕上がっていた。歌詞が異なるバージョンで「Don’t Cry」をVol.1と2の両方に収録するなど、コンセプト的にも共通するものがあった。

本作は、その『Use Your Illusion』のデモ音源を収録したタイトルである。レコーディングに時間をかけたこともあり、同アルバムからはアクセルに渡されたアドバンス・ミックスや、ラフ・ミックスなど数多くの流出音源が存在することが確認されている。そんな中で、本作はあくまでデモ音源に焦点を当てて構成されている。ガンズの大作にして名盤の制作過程を垣間見ることが出来るタイトルである。美しいピクチャー・ディスク仕様の永久保存がっちりプレス盤。日本語帯付。
