GUNS N’ROSES completed the restarted v North American tour “We’re F’N Back!”. The latest report, the live album, is here.
It is “September 23, 2021 Columbus performance” that is imbued with such a work. It is an excellent audience recording that vacuum-packed the whole story. The world music scene is about to revive from the new Corona Pandemic, and GUNS N’ROSES has resumed its world tour. The new song “Hard Skool” following “Absurd” has also attracted a lot of attention. First of all, let’s look back on their recent situation and confirm the position of the show.

This is the outline of the activities that have been published so far. The current tour is called the “2020 Tour” because it was originally scheduled last year, but the North American leg is titled “We’re F’N Back!”. The above schedule is divided along with the announcement of two new songs, but basically “North America # 1-2-3” is all continuous. Under such circumstances, the Columbus performance of this work was the day before the announcement of the new song “Hard Skool”. “We’re F’N Back!” Was the 21st concert out of 25 performances.
This work recorded at such a show is an excellent recording that has a clear core and dynamic sound. GUNS N’ROSES, which has many huge venues, is difficult to record clearly and tends to sound thicker. This work also makes you feel the venue scale of about 20,000 people, but the core that penetrates the center is very powerful. Both the duff gorigori bass and the slash guitar have a rushing power, the thick sound is forcibly torn, and the edge is clear. As a result, the feeling of squishyness is not created at all, and the sound is converted to dynamism instead of a sense of distance. Especially amazing is the vocal of the accelerator. Every word of the lyrics is clearly approaching in front of you, and at the same time, it is thickly strengthened by the sound.
Moreover, this work is also meticulously mastered after seeing the advantages of such recording. As expected, there was a tendency for the bass and hall sounds to go too far in the live recording, but this work alleviates those points. I polished it so that the performance would stand out more clearly.
The dynamic sound is drawn with a full show of a monster band that is finally getting better. At our shop, “LAS VEGAS 2021 (Shades 1398)” was very popular as the first report of “We’re F’N Back!”, But this work is a show about a month later. The sets are also slightly different, so let’s organize them while comparing them.

… And it looks like this. There are two songs in the set that you can’t listen to in “LAS VEGAS 2021”, but there are no songs that have fallen instead. In fact, while showing off all the songs played in “LAS VEGAS 2021”, we simply increased the number of songs by two. You can enjoy the repertoire of topics such as the new song “Absurd” and “I Wanna Be Your Dog” sung by Duff. And the two added songs “Shadow Of Your Love” and “Coma” are also points. Both were performed on “Not in This Lifetime … Tour”, but this is the first Columbus performance since “We’re F’N Back!”. In particular, “Shadow Of Your Love” is a number that has been revived after “LOCKED N’LOADED”, and is one of the hottest songs in the current GUNS N’ROSES.
Currently, GUNS N’ROSES has finished the US tour. Originally, it was planned to visit Mexico / Oceania in 2021, but it was postponed again because the influence of the new corona pandemic remains in the region. This year’s schedule has ended. It was a short restart, but that’s why the engine warmed up and enthusiastic performances continued in the latter half of the tour. This work is a masterpiece of the latter half of the tour that teaches such a fulfilling show. Please enjoy it in a 3-disc set.

これが現在までに公表されている活動概要。現在進行中のツアーは元々昨年予定されていたので“2020 Tour”と呼ばれていますが、中でも北米レッグは“We’re F’N Back!”と題されている。上記は２つの新曲発表に併せて日程を区切っていますが、基本的には「北米#1-2-3」はすべてひと続きです。そんな中で本作のコロンバス公演は新曲「Hard Skool」の発表前日。“We’re F’N Back!”全体で言うと25公演中21公演目にあたるコンサートでした。
そんなショウで記録された本作は、クッキリとした芯とダイナミックな鳴りを併せ持った絶品録音。巨大会場の多いGUNS N’ ROSESはクリア録音が難しく、鳴りが厚めになりがち。本作も約２万人収容の会場スケールを感じさせるのですが、そのド真ん中を貫く芯がやけに力強い。ダフのゴリゴリ・ベースにもスラッシュのギターにも突進力が宿っており、厚めの鳴りも強引に引き裂き、エッジもクッキリ。その結果スカスカ感がまるで生まれず、鳴りも距離感ではなくダイナミズムに転化しているのです。特に凄いのはアクセルのヴォーカル。歌詞の一語一語まではっきりと目の前に迫り、同時に鳴りによってぶ厚く強化されてもいるのです。
しかも、本作はそんな録音の長所を見抜いた上で細心マスタリングも敢行。さすがに生録のままでは低音とホール鳴りが行き過ぎるきらいもあったのですが、本作はそうしたポイントを緩和。演奏がより鮮明に浮き立つように磨き上げたのです。
そんなダイナミック・サウンドで描かれるのは、いよいよ調子の上がってきた怪物バンドのフルショウ。当店では“We’re F’N Back!”の第一報として『LAS VEGAS 2021（Shades 1398）』が大好評を博しましたが、本作はその約１ヶ月後のショウ。セットも微妙に異なりますので、比較しながら整理しておきましょう。

……と、このようになっています。『LAS VEGAS 2021』で聴けない２曲がセット入りしていますが、代わりに落ちた曲は……ない。実は『LAS VEGAS 2021』で演奏された全曲を披露しつつ、シンプルに２曲増量。新曲「Absurd」やダフが歌う「I Wanna Be Your Dog」など、話題のレパートリーが本作でも楽しめるのです。そして、追加された２曲「Shadow Of Your Love」「Coma」もポイント。どちらも“Not in This Lifetime… Tour”では演奏されていましたが、“We’re F’N Back!”になってからは本作のコロンバス公演が初。特に「Shadow Of Your Love」は『LOCKED N’ LOADED』を期に復活を遂げたナンバーであり、現在のGUNS N’ ROSESでも注目の１曲なのです。
