Our proud progressive rock eternal masterpiece is back in stock at The Third Press. The masterpiece is “LIVE: TEST PRESSING 2LP”, the pinnacle of the official live album “GENESIS LIVE” from the Peter Gabriel era.
“GENESIS LIVE” is, needless to say, a historic masterpiece live album, but the official release product is not the pinnacle. This work is a long version that includes “Supper’s Ready”, which is not usually found in the release version.
In the first place, “GENESIS LIVE” was not originally recorded for release, but was recorded for the radio program “KING BISCUIT FLOWER HOUR”. However, Charisma Records, who noticed the popularity of live performances at that time, planned to release a live album and remixed it. Initially it was a two-disc set, but it was released as a single disc to make it cheaper and more widely known. This test press board was produced in that process. Even the number of presses has not been determined, and it is said that “20 to 50 were made”, but up to now, about 10 have been transmitted. It is considered to be the “highest grade of GENESIS analog” and is an ultra-rare product that is sold for over 250,000 yen. [Top board beyond the formula] This work was created directly from the test press board of such “Dutch Philips”. It is clear that it is not just a broadcast sound source because there is no radio DJ, but what is even more eloquent is its quality. The beautiful sound is perfect in terms of clarity, mix and freshness. It’s completely official quality ……… It’s a sound that enthusiasts all over the world press the drumstick as “more than the official version GENESIS LIVE”. In fact, the official box set “LIVE 1973–2007” version also had high sound quality, but Nick Davis’s remix had a habit, and it was a difference between good and bad. However, this work is the same sound as in 1973, and while the natural sound derived from analog is the best match with the fantasy sound of GENESIS, there is no muffled feeling at all. And, in this work, while paying close attention not to spoil the taste, the outline of the original sound is adjusted to stand out (to the end naturally). 『GENESIS LIVE』は、言わずもがなの歴史的な名作ライヴアルバムですが、公式リリース品はその頂点ではありません。本作は、通常リリース盤にはない「Supper’s Ready」まで収録した長尺版なのです。
【奇跡のオランダ盤テストプレス2LP】
もちろん、他公演の音源をパッチしたようなパチ物ではありません。本作の大元になったのは、オランダのオフィシャル・レーベル“Dutch Philips”が制作したテストプレス盤LP。もともと、オフィシャル製品版の『GENESIS LIVE』は１枚物として親しまれてきましたが、このテストLPはどういう理由か２枚組仕様で制作され、そこに「Supper’s Ready」も刻まれていた。しかも、アナログ４面分の長さがあるためか曲順も異なり、名物の曲紹介「Supper’s Ready Story」やアンコール待ちの歓声まで収録。さらにミックスも異なっているのです。
そもそも『GENESIS LIVE』は、本来リリース用の録音ではなく、ラジオ番組“KING BISCUIT FLOWER HOUR”のための収録でした。ところが、当時のライヴ人気に目を付けたカリスマ・レコードがライヴアルバムのリリースを画策してリミックス。当初は２枚組の計画でしたが、より安価で広く知らしめるために１枚物としてリリースされたわけです。このテストプレス盤は、そうした過程で制作されたもの。そのプレス枚数さえ確定されてはおらず、「20枚から50枚は作られた」とも言われていますが、現在まで伝わっているのは10枚程度。「GENESISアナログの最高級品」とされ、25万円以上で取引されているほどの超・稀少品なのです。
【公式を超えた頂点盤】
本作は、そんな“Dutch Philips”のテストプレス盤からダイレクトに起こされたもの。ラジオDJがないことからも単なる放送音源ではないことは明らかですが、さらに雄弁に物語っているのは、そのクオリティ。見目麗しいサウンドは、クリアさもミックスも鮮度もすべてが完璧。まったくもって完全なオフィシャル・クオリティ………と言いますか、世界中のマニアが「公式盤GENESIS LIVE以上」と太鼓判を押すほどのサウンドなのです。実際、公式ボックスセット『LIVE 1973–2007』バージョンも高音質でしたが、ニック・デイヴィスのリミックスにクセがあり、好悪を分けるものでした。しかし、本作は1973年そのままのサウンドであり、しかもアナログ由来の自然な鳴りはGENESISの幻想サウンドにベストマッチしながらも、くぐもった感じがまったくない。そして、本作ではその旨みを損なわないよう細心の注意を払いつつ、原音の輪郭を（あくまで自然に）浮き立たせるように調整。現存するベストサウンドを、さらに究極のレベルに仕上げました。
【プログレッシヴ・ロックの理想郷】
そんな“オフィシャル以上のオフィシャル・サウンド”で蘇った歴史的名作は、めくるめく“ガブリエル時代のGENESISワールド”の理想そのもの。当時のコンサート通りに「Watcher Of The Skies」から「The Musical Box」へ続くだけでも大感動。ここまでがテストプレス盤のＡ面で、Ｂ面は「Get ‘Em Out By Friday」のみ。テストプレスだけにアナログ面の切り替え処理が大ざっぱなものの、それさえも歴史の証拠。すべての曲、すべての瞬間が聞き所であり、プログレッシヴ・ロックの醍醐味に溢れています。とりわけ感動的なのは、やはりＣ面全体を占める26分半に及ぶ「Supper’s Ready」でしょう。長年にわたって公式に登場することはなく、ボックスセット「LIVE 1973–2007」でも「テープはあるけど、（ボックスに採用された）レインボーシアター公演の方が出来が良かったから」という謎の理由（そういう問題じゃないだろ！）で公表されずじまい。それがオフィシャル以上のサウンドで聴けるなんて……。

The main press CD is the ultimate masterpiece that revives the traditional masterpiece live “GENESIS LIVE” as an ideal type. This is GENESIS in 1973. “SELLING ENGLAND BY THE POUND TOUR” will continue in 1974, but the Borehamwood performance of this work is still in the early stages. It was a concert that was the final two performances of “UK # 2”.
The footage shot at such a show has long been the most famous classic in GENESIS, but this work is the highest quality version of the “GENESIS MUSIUM” product using 16mm film. The original 16mm film seems to have suddenly appeared at the auction, and it is digitized and carefully treated. Not to mention the color correction, the muffled muffled sound of the analog tape has been sorted out, and the sound is revived in a preeminent sound. The feeling of the times and the texture of the film projected on the screen are definitely from the 70’s, but the vividness is unbelievable in the 70’s. Even the luster of the material of the stage costume is beautiful, and it is no wonder that when it appeared a few years ago, it became a fuss as “the ultimate gem”.
And, it is the mysterious and wonderful 1973 GENESIS world that is still vividly drawn without giving up the position of “top”. Since it is a multi-camera pro shot, it captures all the highlights of each member, but most of it is still concentrated in Peter Gabriel. Sometimes he becomes a knight, sometimes he becomes an old man, and sometimes he not only has a strange costume with flowers, but also acting like a stage play, and his white-painted expression never stops, and he expresses the fantasy world with his whole body. The world, which is more than colorful with sound alone, swells hundreds of times with images. The contrast between Steve Hackett who is sitting down and other members who are quietly standing is also vivid. It’s a familiar sight in countless photographs, but it’s incredible because it moves smoothly, vividly, and beautifully in the highest quality ever.
GENESIS live in the Gabriel era, where you can’t think of anything lined up even if you look over the entire rock world, not to mention progressive rock. Its true value can only be realized by watching the video. This work is the best professional shot video for that. When I often attach a bonus DVDR, I write “enrich the imagination of the main story”, but there is no one as big as this work. The world beyond the sound is too different before and after watching it. It’s a well-known video that many of you already know, but if you haven’t experienced this 16mm film version, it doesn’t mean much. This is a top-notch book that I can say so far. If it’s the second one, it might be a good idea to give it as a souvenir to a friend who will meet again after a long time. A transcendental image that can not help shocking everyone so much. By all means, do not miss your experience.

これが1973年のGENESIS。“SELLING ENGLAND BY THE POUND TOUR”は翌1974年にも続いていくわけですが、本作のボアハムウッド公演はまだ序盤。「英国#2」の最終２公演にあたるコンサートでした。
そんなショウで撮影された映像は古くからGENESISでもっとも有名な大定番ですが、本作は16ミリフィルムを使用した“GENESIS MUSIUM”プロダクトの最高クオリティ・バージョンです。大元になった16ミリフィルムはオークションに突如現れたものらしく、それをデジタル化した上で丁寧にトリートメント。色補正されたはもちろんのこと、サウンドもアナログテープのくぐもったこもりが整理され、音の抜けもバツグンなサウンドに蘇っています。画面に映し出される時代感、フィルムの質感は間違いなく70年代のものですが、その鮮やかさは70年代とは信じがたいほど。ステージ衣装の素材の光沢までもが美しく、数年前に登場した際には「究極の逸品」と大騒ぎになったのもうなずけるクオリティです。
そして、現在もなお“頂点”の座を譲らぬ鮮やかで描かれるのは、妖しくも素晴らしい1973年のGENESISワールド。マルチカメラのプロショットですので各メンバーの見どころを余さず捕らえきってはいますが、やはりその大半はピーター・ガブリエルに集約される。時に騎士となり、時に老人となり、時に花が咲く奇抜な衣装だけでなく、舞台演劇さながらの演技、白塗りの表情も一瞬たりとも止まらずに千変万化し、幻想世界を全身で表現していく。音だけでも十二分にカラフルな世界が、映像によって何百倍にもふくれあがっていく。座ったままのスティーヴ・ハケットを始めとして地味にたたずむ他メンバーの対比も鮮烈。無数の写真でお馴染みの光景ではありますが、それが史上最高のクオリティで滑らかに・鮮やかに・美しくグリグリと動くのですから、それはそれはもう信じがたいほどの見応えです。
プログレッシヴ・ロックはもとより、ロック界全体を見渡しても並ぶものが思いつかないガブリエル時代のGENESISライヴ。その真価は、映像を見て初めて実感できるもの。本作は、そのためのベストなプロショット映像です。よくボーナスDVDRを付属させる際には「本編のイマジネーションを豊かにする」と書きますが、本作ほど絶大な１枚はない。まさに観る前と観た後では、音の向こうに広がる世界が違いすぎる。すでにご存じの方も多い有名映像ではありますが、もしこの16ミリフィルム・バージョンを体験されていないのだとしたら、その意味は半分にもなりません。そうまで言い切らせていただくほどの頂点的な１本。もし２本目だとしたら、久しぶりに再会されるご友人へのお土産にしていただくのも良いかもしれません。それほどまでに万人に衝撃を与えずにはおかない超絶映像。ぜひ、あなたもご体験漏れのないように。
