本作は海外のマニアが編纂したクリップ集で、収められているのは25曲。GENESIS本体だけではなく、ピーター・ガブリエルやフィル・コリンズ、トニー・バンクスのソロ、MIKE + THE MECHANICS、GTRといったファミリー・バンドまで網羅しています。もちろん、膨大なファミリー・バンドの映像がDVD１枚に収まるはずもない。本作のもう１つのコンセプトは「大ヒット時代」。具体的に言いますと、ファミリーで大ヒットを連発していた「1985年／1986年」のクリップを集成したものなのです。当時の彼らがいかに凄まじいヒット・メイカーだったのか、本作の内容と合わせて整理してみましょう。

……と、このようになっています。記録的大ヒットとなったフィルの『NO JACKET REQUIRED』を筆頭に、GENESIS本体やピーターも商業的な頂点作を発表。さらにはラザフォードやハケットまでもが全米チャートを賑わす一大ビッグ・ヒット時代だったことがご理解いただけると思います。
本作はそんな大ヒット・クリップが次から次へと登場するのですが、構成も一工夫されている。バンド毎に区切られているのではなく、シングルの発売日順なのです。最初はフィル＆フィリップ・ベイリーの「Easy Lover」で幕を開け（ベイリーの『CHINESE WALL』は1984年ですが、英国シングルは1985年発売）、その後は1985年作『NO JACKET REQUIRED』『MIKE + THE MECHANICS』のクリップが連発。ここまではシングルの発売日も近いので固まっていますが、その後は本当に雑多。ピーターの「Sledgehammer」→GENESISの「Invisible Touch」→GTRの「When The Heart Rules The Mind」→再びGENESISの「Throwing It All Away」……と、バラエティ豊かに入れ替わっていくのです。
この構成は、言わばMTV感覚。全部が全部GENESIS関係でありながらカラフルで飽きず、「次は何だろ？」と気になっていつまでも見続けてしまう。しかもシングル発売の時系列なために、リアルタイム感まで感じられる。MIKE + THE MECHANICSが３曲ひと続きのクリップになっている等、厳密には全編発売日順ではないところもありますが、「お、いよいよ『SO』が発売になったか」「GTRには驚いたっけな」と濃密だった２年間の季節が甦ってくるのです。しかも、出てくる曲は見知った懐かしの大ヒット曲ばかり。わずか２年で20曲以上のヒットを飛ばしたボリューム自体がド迫力であり、「ビートルズ以来の偉業」と言われたGENESISファミリーのヒット・メイカーぶりに圧倒されるのです。
そんなヒット曲の中で、意外で面白いのがトニーの「Short Cut To Somewhere」。彼だけがソロのチャート・ヒットとは無縁だったわけですが、この曲を歌っているのは、MARILLIONのフィッシュ。「ピーター・ガブリエルそっくり」と言われた声でトニーの曲を歌っているだけにGENESISやピーターのクリップと並んでも違和感がまったくありません（むしろ、GTRの方が浮いて聞こえます）。『CALLING ALL STATIONS』もフィッシュに歌ってもらえば良かったのに……などと、今さらな事まで浮かんでしまう傑作クリップなのです。

本作の主役は『NURSERY CRYME』で集った、あの５人。GENESIS本体だけでなく、５人全員がそれぞれのソロまで輝いていた1985年／1986年。彼らが全世界を席巻した時代を一望できる映像作品です。そこれそ単なるクリップ集ではなく、MTV感覚のGENESIS特番……いえ、２年間の栄華をドキュメントした音楽映画としても楽しめてしまう２時間12分。１グループの枠を遙かに超えて地球を魅了したGENESISワールド。どうぞ、たっぷりとお楽しみください。
