Continental Europe edition of “THE LAMB LIES DOWN ON BROADWAY TOUR”, which is being excavated at once. The new masterpiece is here.

“March 29, 1975 Bern performance” is included in this work. It is the masterpiece audience recording. As I have often introduced, Continental Europe is also known as a “hole” on “Broadway tours”. Although the tour as a whole is a bumper crop tour of a long sound board that is the best in the Peter Gabriel era, most of it is from the North American leg. For the time being, “DEFINITIVE LIVERPOOL 1975 (Virtuoso 368/369)” was left in the British edition of my home country, but there is no sound board in continental European countries.

If there was no sound board, the audience would come into play. Especially recently, a large-scale guest record of “Broadway Tour” has been excavated, and a large number of masterpieces of Continental Europe, which have been overlooked so far, have appeared. We have introduced it as a number of masterpiece live albums in our shop, and this work is also a live album of Continental Europe. Anyway, first of all, the position of the show. Let’s leave the whole view of the tour to the explanation of the press masterpiece “DIJON 1975 (Virtuoso 441/442)” which will be released at the same time, but here let’s focus on the key European legs and organize the collection.

This is the European leg of “THE LAMB LIES DOWN ON BROADWAY TOUR”. It is a style with a tour of the home country “UK” between “Europe # 1” and “Europe # 2” which are continental editions. Currently, the topic is “Europe # 1”, and you can see that it is appearing one after another, starting with the masterpiece “DIJON 1975” that was born this week. Under such circumstances, the Bern performance of this work was the 22nd concert in the latter half.

This work, which recorded such a show, is a truly exquisite audience recording. The best thing is the clear and vivid sound. The snare and vocal sounds have a sense of space, so you won’t mistake it for a sound board, but the core that pierces the air is powerful and the details are vivid. The mood of listening quietly during the performance, probably because of the locality of Switzerland, which is neither West Germany nor France. Therefore, even if the hall sound has a capacity, you can feel the fine parts clearly.

And the sound has an indescribable illusion. Even in progressive rock, bands such as E & P and KING CRIMSON where sharpness of edges and strength of pressing are important are not superior to sound boards, but symphonic rock such as YES and GENESIS suits audience recording well. The majestic harmony pours down, and you can enjoy the real thrill of standing in the midst of a profound feeling and fantasy. Of course, the subtleties of the performance are crushed, and there is no source or child when it becomes a roaring sound, but there is no worry about this in this work. You can experience the story concert of the century on-site while sprinkling plenty of the unique flavor of the guest record.

Furthermore, the performance is wonderful. After all, this tour is a full reproduction of the completely new two-disc set. Even a normal tour requires several performances until the engine is fully opened, but a show like this requires a considerable number of venues. It makes sense that the more the schedule progresses, the better the performance will be, and the flow will permeate the body. And the European leg is the latter half of the tour, which has become more complete after going through North America. In fact, European legs are attracting attention not only because they don’t have a soundboard, but because they’re much more sophisticated in their playing.

Because the encore was not recorded entirely, this work does not reach the super-masterpiece “DIJON 1975” released at the same time. However, its clearness and splendor of the performance are too regrettable to be buried in the darkness of history. This work is such a live album. “The Lamb Lies Down Broadway” is one of the most famous story albums in rock history, but you can’t hope for a replay. Please fully enjoy the on-site experience and this work.

一気に発掘が進んでいる“THE LAMB LIES DOWN ON BROADWAY TOUR”の大陸ヨーロッパ編。その新たなる名作が登場です。

そんな本作に収められているのは「1975年３月29日ベルン公演」。その傑作オーディエンス録音です。これまでも度々ご紹介してきましたが、“ブロードウェイ・ツアー”でも大陸ヨーロッパは“穴”として知られている。ツアー全体ではピーター・ガブリエル時代でも随一となる長尺サウンドボードの大豊作ツアーでありながら、そのほとんどが北米レッグのもの。一応、母国イギリス篇には『DEFINITIVE LIVERPOOL 1975（Virtuoso 368/369）』が残されたものの、大陸ヨーロッパの諸国にはサウンドボードがないのです。

サウンドボードがないとなれば、オーディエンスの出番。特に最近は“ブロードウェイ・ツアー”の客録が大規模に発掘されており、これまで見逃されてきた大陸ヨーロッパ篇の傑作も大量に登場。当店でも幾多の傑作ライヴアルバムとしてご紹介しており、本作もまた大陸ヨーロッパ篇のライヴアルバムなのです。何はともあれ、まずはショウのポジション。ツアーの全景は同時リリースとなるプレス名盤『DIJON 1975（Virtuoso 441/442）』の解説に譲るとして、ここではポイントとなる欧州レッグに焦点を絞り込んでコレクションを整理してみましょう。

これが“THE LAMB LIES DOWN ON BROADWAY TOUR”のヨーロッパ・レッグ。大陸篇である「欧州#1」「欧州#2」の合間に母国「英国」ツアーを挟んだスタイルです。現在、話題となっているのは「欧州#1」で、今週誕生の代表作『DIJON 1975』を筆頭に、次々と登場しているのがご理解いただけると思います。そんな中で本作のベルン公演は後半にあたる22公演目のコンサートでした。

そんなショウを記録した本作は、まさに絶品のオーディエンス録音。何よりも素晴らしいのは、クリアで微細部まで鮮やかなサウンド。スネアやヴォーカルの鳴りに空間感覚もあるのでサウンドボードと間違えたりはしませんが、空気感を貫く芯は力強くディテールは鮮やか。西ドイツでもフランスでもないスイスという土地柄か、演奏中は静かに聴き入るムード。そのため、ホール鳴りに包容力があっても微細部までくっきりと感じられるのです。

そして、その鳴りが得も言われぬ幻想感を漂わせている。プログレでもE&PやKING CRIMSONのようにエッジの鋭さや押しの強さが大事なバンドはサウンドボードに勝るものはありませんが、YESやGENESISのようなシンフォニック・ロックはオーディエンス録音がよく似合う。荘厳なハーモニーが降り注ぎ、重厚感や幻想感のただ中に立つ醍醐味を味わわせてくれる。もちろん、演奏の機微が潰れたり、爆音になっては元も子もないのですが、本作にその心配はない。客録ならではの旨みをたっぷりと振りまきながら、世紀の物語コンサートを現場体験できるのです。

さらに言えば、演奏が素晴らしい。何しろ、このツアーは完全新作の２枚組をフル再現している。普通のツアーであってもエンジン全開になるまでは数公演を必要としますが、これほどのショウともなればかなりの場数が必要。日程が進めば進むほど演奏がこなれ、流れも身体に染み込んでいくのも道理なのです。そして欧州レッグこそ、北米を経て完成度の高まったツアー後半。実のところ、欧州レッグが注目されているのはサウンドボードがないからだけでなく、演奏の練度が格段に上がっているからなのです。

アンコールが丸々未収録という事もあり、本作は同時リリースの超名盤『DIJON 1975』には及びません。しかし、そのクリアさも演奏の素晴らしさも歴史の闇に埋もれさせるにはあまりにも惜しい。本作は、そんなライヴアルバムなのです。ロック史に名高い指折りの物語アルバムでありながら、再演の望めない『眩惑のブロードウェイ』。その現場体験、どうぞ本作でも存分にご堪能ください。
