FLAMING YOUTH, a phantom band that Phil Collins made his professional debut before joining GENESIS. Introducing a definitive board that covers images that are too valuable for new excavations. There is no shortage of famous bands / boards that have disappeared without success in British prog rock, and there are many enthusiasts whose deep charm has made their lives crazy. FLAMING YOUTH was also a shining star in such a deep and deep world. Above all, what makes this band special is the fact that it is the debut band that sent out Phil Collins. In addition to Phil, Brian Chaton, who participates in JACKSON HEIGHTS (formerly THE NICE Lee Jackson’s band), and Ronnie Caryl, who will co-star with Peter Banks (ZOX & THE RADAR BOYS), have also been produced. He often appeared in the family tree of super big bands such as GENESIS, EL & P, and YES, and was a presence that aroused the curiosity of enthusiasts. Speaking of their “clues”, it is the masterpiece “ARK 2” of the concept album that only one is left, but this work is a collection of multi-camera pro shots that is not an exaggeration to say that it is the video version. There are three types of images contained in this work. In addition to “May 14, 1970” JAM “” by the Dutch broadcasting station TROS HILVERSUM, which has been regarded as the only video so far, the recently discovered French broadcast “February 26, 1970″ DE BRIGHTON A ” This is a 62-minute video work that compiles “JUPITER” “and” START INS WELTALL MIT: ARCHE II “on December 24, 1970” of West Germany Broadcasting. Let’s introduce each one individually.
[February 26, 1970: DE BRIGHTON A JUPITER (4 songs, about 14 minutes)]
The first to appear is the special program “DE BRIGHTON A JUPITER” broadcast on the French broadcasting station ORTF PARIS. It’s a studio session, not a live performance, and the audio is a mime that synchronizes the album “ARK 2”. The most shocking thing is that it is full-color, unlike the Dutch broadcasts that have been known so far. Although the image quality has a vintage film feel, the master freshness is excellent, and it is glossy with no noise or twist. As a matter of fact, every song is not a complete performance and suffers from French narration, but you can enjoy the vivid colors of Phil, who was 19 years old (!!) at the time, singing and hitting. [May 14, 1970: JAM (5 songs, about 20 minutes)]
Next up is “JAM” from the Dutch broadcasting station TROS HILVERSUM, which has been regarded as the only video so far. It is a monochrome image with sepia color scheme as before, but of course it is the best master. With the beauty of the image that neither noise nor deterioration can be seen, you can enjoy valuable performances such as lunar images and other 70’s-like tastes and mimes. [December 24, 1970: START INS WELTALL MIT: ARCHE II (5 songs, about 28 minutes)]
The last is the longest and most beautiful shock image! “START INS WELTALL MIT” by West German Bureau WDR KOLN. The above “December 24” is the broadcast date, and the recording date is unknown. FLAMING YOUTH will be dissolved when Phil joins GENESIS, and the timing is “August 1970”. No matter when it was recorded, the band didn’t exist when it aired. And what was the shock was the beauty of the image. Although the above two types are beautiful, they were excavation film images with a vintage feel, but this is Omoto Master with a different dimension. One of the swaying blondes and one of the glitters that shine in the costume are super beautiful, and the coloring is also a super vivid color with primary colors. Of course, it doesn’t feel unnatural as if it was forcibly pulled up by remastering, and it is a completely official-class professional shot even when viewed with the modern eyes of the digital heyday. The content drawn by the beauty of the image is also amazing. It seems that it is a mime synchronized with the studio take as above, but the video production is elaborate. Various material images and extra dance scenes are combined, but the performance cut is also excellent. You can pull it while surrounded by a huge circular keyboard, or it can be reflected in a mirror-type pickguard. As a matter of course, CG is also familiar to modern eyes, and it is only time-consuming image processing, but that is why the retro scent that drifts fiercely has a different dimension. In fact, all the songs from the album “ARK 2” except “Mercury”, “Uranus” and “From Now On (Immortal Invisible)” were shown, as if it was a video clip of about 30 minutes produced with the full technology of the 70’s. .. Nowadays, it is not uncommon to visualize concept albums, but this video can be said to be a precursor to that. Why was FLAMING YOUTH producing such an elaborate video (and 30 minutes)? It’s a “concept album that you can see with your eyes” that is a little strangely complete.
FLAMING YOUTH, a phantom band that I saw only by name in Family Tree. It is a video masterpiece that is a collection of the moving figures. A piece that goes far beyond the dimension of a documentary video for GENESIS fans and may even rewrite the history of the concept album. By all means, it is a shocking work that I would like you to take a closer look at.
★ Phil Collins’ debut band FLAMING YOUTH’s multi-camera pro shot collection. Compiled French broadcast “February 26, 1970: DE BRIGHTON A JUPITER”, Dutch broadcast “May 14: JAM”, West German broadcast “December 24: START INS WELTALL MIT: ARCHE II” with the best master The most amazing one is “START INS WELTALL MIT”. If one of the swaying blondes and one glitter that shines in the costume are super beautiful, the coloring is primary color crunchy and it is completely official grade even with modern eyes of digital standards. Moreover, it is no exaggeration to say that the production that makes full use of special effects is a video version of the concept album “ARK 2”. It is a video masterpiece that goes far beyond the dimension of documentary video for GENESIS fans and can even rewrite the history of concept works.
