The Oceania tour of THE FACES, which was realized only once in history. The hidden treasure master who tells the scene unearths 3 performances at once. Introducing a 4-disc big set.
“January 27, 1974: Auckland performance” and “February 1 + 9: Sydney performance” are imbued with this work. It’s a vintage audience recording. Speaking of 1974, it is the year that is remembered when the legendary first visit to Japan was realized. In order to imagine the situation in that area, let’s first look back on the whole view of the tour at that time.

“January 10” COAST TO COAST “released”
・ January 27-February 9: Oceania (7 performances) ← ★ Coco ★
・ February 15-20: Japan (4 performances)
・ February 28: Indianapolis performance
・ July 6 + August 17: Europe # 1 (2 performances)
“September 13” I’VE GOT MY OWN ALBUM TO DO “released”
・ September 13-October 6: Europe # 2 (4 performances)
“October 4,” SMILER “released”
・ October 18-24: Scandinavian (3 performances)
・ November 15th-December 23rd: UK (10 performances) ← * Official video

1974 started with the release of “COAST TO COAST”, but immediately after that, an Oceania tour was held. It was a flow of snow falling into the legendary first visit to Japan. Not only was it the only one for THE FACES, but it was also Rod Stewart’s first Oceania (the SMALL FACES guys were experienced in 1968). Of those Oceania tours, three performances are included in this work. The recording time may vary, so let’s zoom in on the schedule.

● New Zealand
・ January 27: Auckland ← ★ This work DISC 1 (second half only) ★
● Australia
・ January 31: Brisbane
・ February 1: Sydney ← ★ This work DISC 2 ★
・ February 3: Melbourne
・ February 5: Adelaide
・ February 8: Melbourne
・ February 9: Sydney ← ★ This work DISC 3-4 ★

Above, all 7 performances. DISC 1’s Auckland recording is only in the second half of the show, but the other two Sydney performances have been recorded almost in full view (although there are some omissions in the exact recording). All three performances are basically the same set, but the recorded songs differ depending on the recording part. Here, let’s organize the basic set and the missing recording parts of each performance.

[Basic set] ● First half of the show: It’s All Over Now / I’m Losing You / Angel / True Blue / Stay With Me / I’d Rather Go Blind / Memphis Tennessee / My Fault / Too Bad (incl. Drum Solo / Every Picture Tells A Story)
● Second half of the show: You Wear It Well / Maggie May / I Wish It Would Rain / Borstal Boys Medley (Around The Plynth, Gasoline Alley, Amazing Grace, Borstal Boys) / Twisting The Night Away
● Final song: Pool Hall Richard / We’ll Meet Again
[Recording omission part] ・ Auckland performance (DISC 1): The above “first half” has not been recorded.
・ Sydney first day (DISC 2): Only the above “final song” was missed.
・ Sydney Day 2 (DISC 3-4): Finished in the middle of “Pool Hall Richard”.

…… And it looks like this. The outline alone has become a bit long, but the biggest point of this work is the sound that conveys these three performances. This is really great. After all, Gene is the ultimate enemy. Only the Auckland performance (DISC 1) seems to be the 1st Gene, but the Sydney 2 performance is the original master released by the recorder himself.
And the recording itself is wonderful. The Auckland performance (DISC 1) is an open stadium that looks like a field with no ceiling or even walls, and the first day of Sydney (DISC 2) is also a special stage set up at the outdoor racetrack. A powerful core with zero echo jumps into your hand, and there is no cloudiness or turbidity. If there were no omissions in the recording, it would be a superb sound that would have been pressed without any questions. On the other hand, only on the second day of Sydney (DISC 3-4), the hall sounds are picked up only at the indoor venue, but it is a work with the same taper as the first day of Sydney (DISC 2), and it is also exceptionally clear for recording in the 70’s. .. Due to the length of the recording time, it is a masterpiece recording that cannot be ignored.
The Auckland performance (DISC 1) and the first day of Sydney (DISC 2) where you can enjoy the vivid sound unique to the outdoor venue, and the second day of Sydney (DISC 3-4), which has a long length of over 90 minutes. It is a 4-disc set with a precious vintage master that is not inferior in the future. A big set where you can fully enjoy the enthusiasm of the legendary first visit to Japan. Please experience it to your heart’s content.

★ A live album set of the Oceania tour that took place just before the legendary first visit to Japan. This is a masterpiece audience recording of “January 27, 1974: Auckland performance” and “February 1 + 9: Sydney performance”. The Auckland performance (DISC 1) is the 1st Gene, and the Sydney 2 performance is a brand name created by the Omoto Master released by the recorder himself. The Auckland performance (DISC 1) and the first day of Sydney (DISC 2) have only an outdoor venue, and a powerful core with zero echo jumps into your hand, and it is a superb sound with no cloudiness or turbidity, and the second day of Sydney (DISC 3-4) Is attractive with a recording time of over 90 minutes. It is a big set where you can fully enjoy the enthusiasm of the legendary first visit to Japan.
