The title “THE CORE” representing the SLOWHAND tour which was released five years ago and has been out of print for a long time has appeared as a remaster board. From the North American tour which took place from February 1978, the first day of the tour February 1 Canadian · Vancouver performance is recorded completely with super high quality stereo · audience recording. It is a remaster board of the same title which was released from this label in 2005. Like the previous version, it is factory press CD. At the time of release, it was counted as one of the masterpieces of the 78-year National Tour with outstanding stereo / audience recording, but this time again it borrowed the original master and is being produced directly. Parts that were compensated by remastering were somewhat weakened in the bass range that was conspicuous, adjusted for sound balance, elimination of hiss noise, adjustment of overall sound pressure, and introduction of “Layla” in three final songs of DISC 2 The unnatural feeling removal of the monaural part of more than 10 seconds that has occurred has become. 5年前にリリースされ、長期間に渡り廃盤となっていたSLOWHANDツアーを代表するタイトル「THE CORE」が、リマスター盤として登場。1978年2月から行われた北米ツアーより、ツアー初日となる2月1日カナダ・バンクーバー公演を超高音質ステレオ・オーディエンス録音で完全収録。前年の日本公演を終え、アルバム・リリースを挟み満を持してスタートした本ツアーは2月から4月の約2ヶ月間に渡って行われ、「SLOWHAND」のアメリカでの好調なセールスとの相乗効果で70年代を代表するツアーとなりましたが、2/11公演のサウンドボード音源を唯一の基準として未だにその他の公演はほぼ知られていない現状です。本アイテムはそのツアーから記念すべき初日公演を、オーディエンス録音としてはこれ以上望めない完璧な音質で捉えています。「SLOWHAND」から「May You Never」以外の全曲が披露され、本ツアーのブルース・ナンバー「DOUBLE TROUBLE」に加え、「Going Down Slow」を内包した「Have You Ever Loved A Woman」がセット入りし、「Nobody Knows You…」ではクラプトン自身がヴォーカルを取る等、特別なセットが組まれた初日公演ですが、特筆すべきはそのセット内容さえ霞んでしまう圧倒的な演奏内容でしょう。ジェイミーのリズムが一貫してステージを支配する中で奏でられるクラプトンのフレーズの数々。「The Core」に於ける完璧な踏み込み角度と共に切れ込んでくるトーンと後半での鳴きまくるソロ、感覚的に繰り出されるジェイミーのフィルに触発され展開される「Badge」の隙の無いプレイ、「Mean Old Frisco」の絞り出すようなスライドギター、「Let It Rain」での反則とも言える後半のサスティーンだけで全てを一蹴してしまうプレイ、そしてブルース・チューンではクランチ寄りにセッティングされたアンプとワウを巧みに組み合わせた珠玉のフレーズの数々を聞く事が出来、ステージ全体を通して緊張感が途切れる事無く、聴き手を引きずり込む演奏が展開されています。音質はボードとオーディエンスの違いはあれど基準となる2/11公演を凌駕する印象を与える完璧なサウンドで全編に渡り収録されています。リマスターのポイントとして、過剰な低音部の緩和、原音を損ねない程度のヒスノイズの除去、全体の音圧の調整、テープチェンジ部の段差を緩和した結合、ディスク2ラスト3曲でそれぞれ10秒強づつモノラルになる箇所を可能な限り違和感無く修復しました。元々が高音質なソースなので飛躍的な音質向上はありませんが、輪郭がさらに鮮明になり、曲毎の音圧を調整する事による突出するヒスノイズも感じられない、全体的にスマートなアップグレード・サウンドに仕上がっています。長い期間廃盤になりながら、未だに78年スローハンド・ツアーを代表する公演、そしてこの時期のクラプトンのプレイを探究する上ではバイブルとなるタイトルが限定プレスCDで登場です。

2005年に本レーベルよりリリースされていた同タイトルのリマスター盤である。前バージョンと同様、ファクトリー・プレスCDとなっている。リリース当時、抜群のステレオ・オーディエンス録音で78年全米ツアーの代表作の一つに数えられたものだったが、今回再びオリジナル・マスターを借り受けてダイレクトに制作されている。リマスタリングにより補整された部分は、目立っていた低音域を若干弱め、サウンド・バランスを整えたこと、ヒスノイズの除去、全体の音圧の調整、「Layla」のイントロを含むDISC2終盤３曲でそれぞれ発生していた10秒余りのモノラル部分の違和感除去、となっている。より音質が向上して聴きやすくなったということで、さらに本音源の評価は高まることだろう。オーディエンス録音としては最高峰の音質と言っても良い。この日はツアー初日で、何よりも興味深いのは当時の新作『SLOWHAND』の全９曲中８曲を演奏していることだ。クラプトン自身、相当の自信作であったし、事実このアルバムはこのツアーの甲斐あって全米第２位を記録する大ヒットとなったのだった。ツアーが進行するにつれ、いつものクラプトンらしく新曲はどんどんセットからはずされていったので、当該アルバムのナンバーをふんだんに聴けるのは本音源のみというわけである(SBDソースで有名な2月11日のサンタモニカ公演でも既に１曲カットされ７曲となっていた)。さらにこの時期NOBODY KNOWS YOU WHEN YOU’RE DOWN AND OUT はコーラスのマーシー・レヴィをフィーチャーしていたのだが、ここではクラプトンのリード・パフォーマンスとなっている。ギター・ソロも味わい深い。これは非常に貴重なテイクと言える。そして全編を通じて実感できるのは、当時のクラプトン・バンド「タルサ・トップス」のダイナミックかつ繊細な演奏ぶりである。ブルージーだが、ディープなカントリー・テイストもあり、ドライブ感がある。ジェイミー・オールデイカー＆故カール・レイドルによる鉄壁のリズム・セクションに負うところも大だ。個人的にはこのバンドの全盛期はこのツアーだと考えている。本作にはそれを証明するようなプレイ・クオリティが提示されている。クラプトン・ファンで未聴の方はもちろんのこと、既に本作の前バージョンをお持ちの方も買い直す価値はありそうだ。
