Eric Clapton finds new undisclosed original master of Japan Tour in 1975! Last month, our store unveiled Eric Clapton ’s first day of the 1975 Japan Tour Osaka performance in 44 years and released it as “Osaka 1975 1st Night” (4CD). As a result, the customers who made the order were pleased to know the whole picture of the first day performance, which had been known only in pieces until now, and how Clapton had been “clear” from the first day of the year. Prior to that, our shop unearthed a new sound source on the first day of Tokyo performance in 2015 for the first time in 40 years and released it as “Budokan 1975 1st Night” (2CD). The excellent original sound source of the Tokyo final performance the next day is also released as “Lord Have Mercy” (2CD). As it was, everyone thought that a new master would not come out, it would be enough if it came out so much, but on November 1, 1975, a new audience recording master on the first day of the Tokyo performance was our shop. Has been excavated! The contributor was the record player of the same year’s Jeff Beck Korakuen performance “WORLD ROCK FESTIVAL EASTLAND: DEFINITIVE MASTER” that was released the other day and was regarded as the decision board of the same year. Around this time, it was the SONY C120HF cassette tape that “There are also Claptons of this year” was issued from a lot of things. This day already has a definitive edition, “Budokan 1975 1st Night (2CD)”, and the master of this work did not go beyond its sound quality. However, the reason why our store decided to release this work on the press board was because of “the atmosphere of the day in the master cassette, the real feeling, the air feeling”. Of course, it was also premised that the sound quality was clear and widened even with monaural recording, and the sound balance was good. Compared to the existing record, the excitement of the audience from the opening that is captured by this master is an “odd” that is not found in other works. There seemed to be about 7 young men and women who seemed to be close to his friends, and the excitement of conversation while waiting for the performance, the excitement when Clapton appeared with the band members, Udo Response to listening to the announcement of the music office staff, the word “Telecaster!” Shouts just before the start of the first song, Layla. The young woman’s hysterical “Eric!” Cry, as if it were going to be a Johnny idol. A completely different reaction from the Budokan, which celebrated Clapton’s current state of death, was taking place at the Budokan on November 1, 1975. Clapton is still 30 years old at that time. The appearance of Clapton that appeared was a long hair on the shoulders with a good hair quality, rock musician and a neat face, slim legs and long legs. It was a cool superstar from everywhere. In addition, the miracle first visit to Japan in the previous year, and this year’s music magazine Music Life popularity vote was a re-visited performance in Japan that was number one in the guitarist category. And Clapton played the guitar and performed a great performance, changing from the previous year to respond to the support of such an audience. The mood of the Budokan at that time is packed here. Depending on how you perceive it, you might think that it is simply that there is a lot of audience noise. Surely this mood tells the audience around the recording person, but it is strange that it does not feel uncomfortable. Rather, it makes me feel like I’m experiencing the peak of rock guitarist Eric Clapton’s popularity at Budokan, which makes me think “I really wanted to be in it.” It ’s a materially valuable master. Just because it was a tour that brought Layla to the opening, the excitement level is tremendous. The reason why George Terry, who plays the famous seven-string phrase here, seems off-line because, as is the case with the already-released record, the sound output of the PA on that day was not well adjusted. Suddenly, the console console engineer was panicked by the explosive sounds of this popular song. The band sound is finally established with the second song. I think that the impact of the opening was so high. Clapton used the blonde finish telecaster purchased at the time as a new article. Using a long tone with a slightly fat and glossy tone, it expresses a sense of scale in a play that is stretched and laid back. It seems that he was in a good mood, and when he told the song title before Badge, he rushed to make the audience laugh. In front of I Shot The Sheriff, Clapton announces “Is it okay to smoke here?” And ignites the cigarette. Probably it was the guitar head, and the next moment the venue was filled with cheers. The famous scene of Clapton that was seen at the “Bangladesh Concert” has appeared, so it can be profitable. When the two female vocalists Yvonne Eliman and Mercy Levy (Clapton at the time introduced “Levi”) were featured, the audience was very exciting. As I listened, a man who saw Eliman with an electric guitar screamed, “Isn’t it Eric’s guitar?” That’s right, Eliman played with a Clapton Blackie at that time. Mercy misunderstood that all Japanese greetings were standard at the time of phone calls, calling the first voice “Hello!” And making the venue a subtle mood. This was also an interesting scene where I could feel her heart rooted to delight the Japanese audience. In this unreleased master, unfortunately 7 minutes of the last was not recorded, but in order to enjoy as a fully recorded version, we have compensated from the already released board without a sense of incongruity. The second visit to Japan 44 years ago, Clapton at the peak of popularity, the audience who welcomed him, and Clapton who played crisp play in response. エリック・クラプトン、1975年ジャパン・ツアーの未公開オリジナルマスターをまたも新発掘！先月、当店はエリック・クラプトンの1975年ジャパン・ツアー大阪公演初日の素晴らしい音源を44年ぶりに発掘し、「Osaka 1975 1st Night」(4CD)としてリリース致しました。その結果、オーダーいただいたお客様には、これまで断片的にしか知ることのできなかった初日公演の全貌とこの年いかにクラプトンが初日から「キレ」ていたかを知っていただき、喜んでいただきました。それに先立ち、当店は2015年にこの年の東京公演初日の新音源を40年ぶりに発掘し、「Budokan 1975 1st Night」(2CD)としてリリースしておりました。翌日の東京最終公演の優良オリジナル音源も「Lord Have Mercy」(2CD)としてリリースしております。そうなるとさすがに「もう新マスターは出てこないだろう、まあこれだけ出てくればこれで十分」と誰もが思っていた中、1975年11月1日、東京公演初日の新たなオーディエンス録音マスターを当店が発掘したのです！提供者は、先日リリースされこの日の決定盤と評された、同年のジェフ・ベック後楽園公演「WORLD ROCK FESTIVAL EASTLAND: DEFINITIVE MASTER」の録音者で、このベックのマスターを提供いただき、マスタリングが落ち着いた頃、ひょんなことから「この年のクラプトンもありますよ」と出されたのがSONY C120HFカセットテープだったのです。では、このジャパン・ツアーの日程を再度確認しておきましょう（「←」は当店からリリースのプレスタイトルです）。

この日は既に決定版と言える「Budokan 1975 1st Night(2CD)」が存在するわけで、本作のマスターはさすがにその音質を上回るというところまではいきませんでした。しかしながら当店が敢えてプレス盤で本作をリリースしようと決定した訳、それは「マスターカセットに収められた当日の雰囲気・リアル感・空気感」ゆえだったのです。もちろんモノラル録音ながら音質が充分クリアで拡がりもあり、サウンドバランスの良いものだったことも前提でした。既発盤に比べ、本マスターに捉えられているオープニングからのオーディエンスの盛り上がり具合は他作にはない「異様な」ものです。録音者の周りには、恐らく彼の友人とおぼしき若い男女が7人ほどおられたようで、開演を待つ中での会話のワクワク感、バンドメンバーとともにクラプトンが登場してきた時の高揚感、ウドー音楽事務所スタッフの開演アナウンスを聞いてのレスポンス、1曲目のLaylaが始まる寸前に男性が叫ぶ「テレキャスター！」という言葉。まるでジャニーズ系のアイドルに向けるような、若い女性のヒステリックな「エリックー！」という叫び。枯淡の境地に達した現在のクラプトンを迎える武道館とはまったく違う反応が1975年11月1日の武道館で起こっていたのです。それもそのはず、当時クラプトンはまだ30歳という若さ。現われたクラプトンのルックスは、髪質の良い、ロックミュージシャン然とした肩にかかる長髪と端正な顔立ち、スリムな体躯に長い脚。どこから見てもかっこいいスーパースターだったのですから。さらに、前年に奇跡の初来日を果たし、この年の音楽誌ミュージックライフの人気投票では、ギタリスト部門でナンバーワンに輝いたという大人気の中で行なわれた再来日公演だったのです。そしてそんなオーディエンスの支持に応えるように、クラプトンは前年とは打って変わってギターを弾き捲り、素晴らしいパフォーマンスを披露してくれました。その時の武道館のムードがここに克明にパックされています。捉え方によっては「それは単にオーディエンスノイズが多いってことなんじゃないの？」と思われるかもしれません。確かにこのムードは録音者の周囲にいたオーディエンスの様子が物語るものですが、それを不快に感じないのが不思議なところ。むしろ「ああ、自分もこの中に居たかったなあ」と思わせるような、ロックギタリスト、エリック・クラプトンの人気のピーク時を武道館で体験しているような気分にさせてくれる、ある意味記録的資料的に価値のあるマスターなのです。オープニングにLaylaを持ってきたツアーだっただけに、その興奮度には凄まじいものがあります。ここで有名な7連フレーズを奏でるジョージ・テリーの音がオフ気味なのは、既発盤にも言えることですが当日のPAの出音の調整がうまくいってなかったからです。いきなりこの人気曲で爆発的に出てくる楽音にコンソール卓のエンジニアも慌てたことでしょう。2曲目でようやくバンドサウンドが確立されます。そのくらいオープニングの衝撃度は高かったということでしょう。クラプトンは全編に亘り、当時新品で購入したブロンドフィニッシュのテレキャスターを使用。ややファットで艶やかなトーンでロングトーンを駆使し、伸びやかでレイドバックしたプレイでスケール感を表現しています。気分もご機嫌だったようで、Badgeの前に曲名を告げる際にはわざと焦らしてオーディエンスを笑わせています。 I Shot The Sheriffの前には、クラプトンが「ここで煙草を吸ってもいいのかな？どう？」とアナウンスして煙草に火を点けます。それを恐らくギターヘッドに差したのでしょう、次の瞬間会場は大歓声に包まれます。「バングラデシュ・コンサート」でも見られたクラプトンの有名なシーンが現出したのですからそれも頷けるというもの。女性ボーカルのイヴォンヌ・エリマンとマーシー・レヴィ（この頃のクラプトンは「リーヴィー」と紹介していました）二人がフィーチュアされた際にもオーディエンスは大盛り上がり。聴いていると、エリマンがエレクトリックギターを持ったのを見た男性が「エリックのギターじゃないの？」とすかさず口走ります。その通り、エリマンはこの時クラプトンのブラッキーを借りてプレイしたのでした。マーシーは日本人の挨拶がすべて電話時の定型だと勘違いしていて、第一声に「もしもし！」と呼びかけ、会場を何とも微妙なムードにしてしまいます。これもまた面白く、何とか日本のオーディエンスを喜ばせようと腐心した彼女の心根が感じられるシーンでもありました。この未公開マスターでは、残念ながらラストの7分間が未収録でしたが、完全収録版としてお楽しみいただくため、既発盤から違和感なく補填しております。44年前の二度目の来日、人気のピークを誇った時期のクラプトン、そんな彼を大歓迎したオーディエンス、それに応えてキレ捲りのプレイを披露したクラプトン。どうぞ本作で、あの、熱に浮かされたような1975年武道館の一夜を体験してみてください。
