エリック・クラプトンの20回に及ぶ来日公演と言えば、ほぼ全公演のオーディエンスソースが発掘されてリリースされており、マスターは出尽くしたと思われていましたが、ここに74年初来日、11月1日東京2日目公演のニューマスターを2本同時に発掘しました！しかもどちらも完全収録です。クラプトンのライブデータ本、福井章彦著「エリック・クラプトン－ライブ・ファイル１」のこの日の解説を見ますと、現在最も音質の良いものとして挙げられているタイトルでも標準の音質以下のものしか存在していない中、今回発掘されたマスターも残念ながら2本ともそれを超えるものではありませんが、オーディエンスブートに慣れたマニアの方なら、「鑑賞には十分なレベル。こんなマスターがあったんだ！」と納得していただけると思います。敢えてプレスCDでリリースするのもそこに意義があります。プレス4CDのディスク1&2に収録されているのはRecorder(ソース) 1で、ディスク3&4のRecorder（ソース）2と比較して、より良い音質を備えたものです。但し、音そのものはクリアなのですが、ドラムのサウンドが残響音（？）のようにディレイがかかったような妙な音像になっているの点が、実に不思議なマスターと言えます。音質はかなりクリアーで全ての楽音がしっかりと録音されているのにもかかわらず、スネアドラムだけが遅れた感じで録音されているのは本当に何故なのでしょう？これが録音場所のせいなのか、マイクの特性でたまたま、こう録れたのか判断が付きかねるという、まさにマニア泣かせの、変わったニューソースと言えます。（何故か、聴き進むにつれてこの症状は緩和されていきます。）更に、I Shot The Sheriff の0:56 – 7:46が欠落していたことも欠点であるわけですが、欠落部分については、ソース#2の同箇所を補填してあります。ソース#2を収録したディスク3&4も決して劣悪な音質というわけではなく、ステージとの距離がソース#1よりもあったと感じられる音像であるということです。音がやや遠いのですが、音の鮮度が悪いわけではありません。ソース#2につつきましてはマスターでの欠落部分が多く、Badge の7:44 – 最後迄、Willie And The Hand Jiveの冒頭僅か0:00 – 0:04部分、Layla の演奏終了後、アンコールを求めるオーディエンス・コールの6:14 – 9:48迄が欠落していましたので、ソース#1から補填しています。どちらもヴィンテージ音源として、十分楽しく鑑賞していただけるものです。本盤を聴いていただくと、オープニングのLet It Growの音量があまりにも小さいことに気づきますが、両マスター共通のこの部分は、実は会場のPAエンジニアのミスであったことが判ります（その後、音量は上げられます）。先述の「エリック・クラプトン－ライブ・ファイル１」では、ワウワウを駆使するTell The Truth、Badgeでの切れのあるクラプトンのソロプレイ、Have You Ever Loved A Womanでの貫禄を示す流麗なギタープレイが評価されていました。またLaylaで確認できる３回に及ぶ曲中での異様なオーディエンスの大混乱・大興奮ぶりがリアルに収められています。この時、歓喜のあまり、後方席のオーディエンスはステージ前へと突進・殺到したのです。演奏後にはクラプトンが、「落ち着いてくれ。冷静に。」とアナウンスしています（今では考えられないことです）。多少クールダウンしたところで、このジャパンツアーでは唯一この日だけ演奏されたLittle Wingがプレイされます。このアンコールを聴くだけでも価値があると言えるでしょう。酒に溺れてあまりギターを弾かなかったと語り伝えられている初来日公演ですが、本盤でじっくり聴いていただくと、かなりプレイクオリティは高かったと思えます。41年ぶりに発掘されたニューマスター2本。クラプトンマニアの方ならこの価値をお判りいただけるでしょう。初回限定のプレス4CDでお届けします。若かりし時代のクラプトンの貴重な音源を是非あなたのコレクションに加えてください！
