今週リリースのエリック・クラプトン、1993年ジャパンツアー・タイトル第2弾が本盤です！本盤には、ツアー最終日となった10月31日の武道館公演を完全収録しています。もちろんマスターは、今週の4CDタイトル「YOKOHAMA 1933」と同様、過去にTriconeレーベルのクラプトンの日本公演モノの名作の数々を実現してきた、日本を代表するテーパーからのオリジナルDATマスターを使用しています。聴いていただくと瞬時にお判りいただけるように、クリアさ、サウンドバランス、音圧、ステレオ感、どれを取ってもまさに極上と断言できるステレオ・オーディエンス録音です。この日の既発盤にはMasterportレーベルの「1993 FINAL NIGHT」がありましたが、本盤はそれをも上回る最高峰の音質で全編が捉えられています。もちろん録音上のトラブルや欠点は一切なし。最初から最後まで燃え上がるクラプトンのプレイが堪能できます。「燃え上がる」と表現しましたが、この日は最終日ということで、クラプトンにもその意識があったようです。前日の横浜アリーナ公演ではそこそこ無難にまとめていたLaylaの後奏でのソロでは、この日は目の覚めるように鮮烈なフレーズが火を噴いています。この音源を聴くと、改めて90年代のクラプトンは現在よりも数段凄まじいプレイをしていたということが実感できます。決して現在の彼が悪いというわけではありませんが、スリリングに畳み掛けるハイテンションなクラプトンのギタープレイという意味では、本盤は是非ともマニアの方にこそ聴いていただきたいものです。44あたりから俄然彼のエンジンはかかってきます。その後は早くもWhite Roomで爆発。あまりの弾き捲りにオーディエンスが熱狂しています。そしてジミ・ヘンをトリビュートしたStone Free。ジミ・ヘンばりにギターをアンプに擦りつけてのエンディングでは、狙い通りワイルドな轟音の中で見事にフィードバックを起こしています。この後は一転して静かなアコースティックセットとなりますが、このマスターでは繊細なアコギやクリス・スティントンの奏でるオルガンの響き、そしてジェリー・ポートノイの切ないハーモニカがバランスよく、克明に捉えられています。Circus Left Townのプロローグでは、スタンドの心無いファンからの「日本一！」という意味不明の野次が飛んでいて、録音者の周りのオーディエンスが失笑する様子も捉えられていますが、この野次によって、このマスターがアリーナ前方席という好ポジションで録音されていたことがお判りいただけます。このCircus Left Townのプロローグは、ここにきて他日公演とは異なる、一層メランコリーな演奏に変貌していたことにもご注目ください。そして終盤に畳み掛けるブルースの凄まじいこと！まさに「エリック・クラプトン、ここにあり」と言える音源です。テンポの速いナンバーでは、怒涛のように迫るホーンセクションが見事なアレンジで導入されています。95年のブルースツアーでもホーンは起用されていましたが、ホーンの入ったLaylaなどはこの時しか聴けなかったものです。この93年のジャパンツアーからは当時、全公演ボックスなどはリリースされず、すべて単発タイトルのみのリリースでした。それだけにマニアの方はコレクトするのが大変でしたし、音質の良い日を見極めるのが難しいツアーでしたが、当店のツアーからの一連のプレスタイトル（「BLUES LEAVE ME ALONE」(10/12 東京）、「GROANING THE BLUES」（10/13 東京）、「AIN’T NOBODY’S BUSINESS」（10/14 名古屋）、「HOW LONG BLUES」（10/18 大阪）、「KIDMAN BLUES」（10/19 大阪）、「COUNTY JAIL BLUES」（10/21 東京））に今回の横浜とこの武道館最終日を加えていただければもう十分でしょう。「極上」クオリティを保証する決定版です。どうぞご期待ください。
