という状況からは、思う存分ライブで弾けてからニューアルバムのレコーディングに突入しようとしていたことが分かります。しかもこの日は、翌日から始まるRAH12連続公演の前日に当たっていました。つまり本番さながらのウォームアップ・ギグ、総仕上げの最終段階だったわけです。バンドは、クラプトンがアルバム「AUGUST」から絶大な信頼を寄せる精鋭3人とのシンプルな4ピース。思う存分ギターを弾くには申し分のない状況でした。その通り、クラプトンはクリーム時代から当時に至るまでの名曲群を惜しげもなくセットに組みました。75年以来となるドミノス・ナンバーBell Bottom Bluesをドミノスと同じ編成のバンドで披露。そして何とForever Manを5年ぶりにセットイン。フィル・コリンズのドラミングが冴え渡る。そして4人の実力がフルに発揮される怒涛のアーバン・ブルースSame Old Blues。そしてサポートしてくれたフィル・コリンズに感謝してフィーチャーしたナンバーがこれまた何とEasy Lover。当時一世を風靡したキャッチー＆バブリーなナンバーでしたが、ここではフィリップ・ベイリー役をネイザン・イーストが務めてコリンズとデュエット。そこにクラプトンがシグネイチャー・ストラトで見事なソロを決める。この年、このツアーだけの期間限定のパフォーマンスが展開されました。それを重鎮テーパー自らが出掛けて行って録音を敢行。その結果は、驚愕と表現するしかないウルトラクリアなサウンドとなっています。クラプトンのギターは勿論、タイトなドラムサウンドが最高にクリアに収録されており、歯切れの良いアンサンブルを最良の音像で楽しむことができます。1989年屈指のイギリス地方都市の中ホール録音ソース。ロイヤル・アルバート・ホールでは味わえない、ウォームアップギグならではの大胆さと完成度の高さが両立した最高峰のステレオ・オーディエンス録音をどうぞ本盤でお楽しみください。
