今週リリースの「Ronnie Scott’s 1987」に続き、新たな驚きのマスターを同時発掘しました！もちろんこのマスターも当店だけが独占的に入手したものです。内容は、1987年3月27日に、クラプトンの故郷であるイギリス、サリー州のクランレー・ゴルフ・アンド・カントリー・クラブで行なわれたチャリティ・ライブの模様を極上のステレオ・オーディエンス録音で完全収録したものです。クラプトンは前年にもサリー州のクリケット・クラブにてイギリスの古参バンド、チキン・シャックとのチャリティ・セッションを行なっていました。こうしたショウの形態を気に入った彼が、この日ゴルフ・クラブで行なったのがこのライブセッションだったのです。この音源を収めた既発盤としては、ボックス物の「BLACK MAGIC WOMAN」やCDRブート「BEHIND THE CROSSROADS」がありましたが、本盤は自ら会場で録音したというテーパー直のファースト・ジェネレーションのマスターという触れ込みだけにすべての既発盤を上回る極上音質であることは言うまでもありません。クリアで大迫力の上に、サウンドがナチュラルそのものです。まるでバンドが目の前で演奏しているような臨場感があります。長年に渡り詳しいパーソネルがいまだに不明なのですが、このショウに出向いたテーパーの記憶によると、地元のローカルバンドだったとのことで、無名のミュージシャンばかりだったようです。そこにクラプトンが加わるというのも本場のイギリスならではの凄い話だったと言えるでしょう。オリジナルマスターからの欠点としまして、The Bear の5:00時点、Boogie Woogieの5:07時点のテープチェンジがありましたが、そこはできる限り違和感を軽減するよう繋げる処理をしています。また、Albertaでは左チャンネルにテープ不良による難があったため、右チャンネルを左チャンネルにも持ってくるという、ビートルズのキャピトル・アルバムのような「疑似ステレオ」処理をして聴きやすくしました。さらに、音圧がパートによりバラバラでしたので、可能な限り均衡化を図り、調整しました。この点においても既発盤よりも格段に聴きやすくなっています。こうしたチャリティショウの妙味は、クラプトンが普段のヒズバンドとは違うメンバーで、普段のレパートリーではない曲を演奏していることです。クラプトンが弾くBlack Magic Woman 、Route 66などは、それぞれフリートウッド・マック、ストーンズのテイストとはまた違ったもので興味をそそられることでしょう。この後クラプトンはこうした趣向を気に入り、同年8月14日にもクリケット・クラブでのチャリティショウ、12月19日には前年に続き、チャリティ・クリスマスショウを行ないます。その飛躍点となった珍しいライブセッションのステージは、ファンならずとも興味深いものと言えるでしょう。大元のオリジナルマスターによる過去最高音質で是非この音源をお楽しみください。本盤も初回プレス分のみの限定リリースとなりますので、「Ronnie Scott’s 1987」同様、お早めのオーダーをよろしくお願い致します。
