Eric Clapton’s first publicly released treasure sound source will appear again this week. 今週はまたエリック・クラプトンの初公開秘蔵ライブ音源が登場します。お馴染みの、当店が信頼するイギリス在住の重鎮テーパーから提供された完全初公開のステレオ・オーディエンスマスターです。本盤は、1975年夏に2ヶ月半の長期に渡って行われた「THERE’S ONE IN EVERY CROWD 全米ツアー」から、中盤にあたった7月10日のカンサスシティ公演を非常に良好でサウンドバランスの良いステレオ・オーディエンス録音で収録したものです。先週、当店は同ツアー7月11日のセントルイス公演を同じく重鎮テーパーのマスターからリリースしたばかりですが、本盤のマスターはそれを上回るクオリティです。またまた42年の時を超えて初公開のマスターが発掘されたわけです。この日には既発盤でサウンドボードの不完全収録盤がありました。それはオープニングからBlues Powerがイントロの1分ほどでカットアウトになるところまでしか収録されていませんでした。そういう意味では、このオーディエンスマスターはアンコールまで収録されているため、初めてこの日の全貌を知ることができる非常に貴重なものと言うことができます。しかしながら、この本盤のマスターにも欠点があり、マーシー・レヴィがボーカルをとるKansas City とTeach Me To Be Your Womanが未収録となっていました。恐らくテープの残量を考えて、マーシーのパートの録音を断念したのでしょう。さらに経年劣化から曲によっては若干のテープよれ箇所があるほか、各曲の曲間で録音を停めていたため、曲が切れていました（これもテープの残量を考えての措置だったでしょう）。またBetter Make It Through Todayの曲中にはマスター時点で音跳びがありました。しかし、42年という時を超えてもたらされたこの素晴らしい音質のマスターを、それに相応しいプレスCDタイトルで世に出すため、当店が丁寧にこれらの欠点を解消しました。テープよれは如何ともし難いものでしたが、サウンドボード録音の既発盤より未収録の２曲を補填したほか、曲間もスムーズに繋ぎ、Better Make It Through Todayの音跳び部分はサウンドボードマスターから、本マスターのミッシングパート部分を正確にパッチし、違和感のないクロスフェード処理を施しました。既発のサウンドボードソースが20％もピッチが高かったことにお気づきだったでしょうか？当店のエンジニアがサウンドボードマスターのピッチを正しく修正した上でこれらの措置を施したことにより、まったく違和感のない状態で、この日のコンサートの完全収録を実現したのです。クラプトンファンの方なら、もう早く聴いてみたいと思われているのではないでしょうか？さて、ここでもう一度このコンサートの意味合いをおさらいしておきましょう。

一年のほとんどをツアーに充てたことがお判りいただけると思いますが、その中にあってこの全米ツアーはメインイベントでした。ツアー名どおり、本来はリリースしたばかりのアルバム「THERE’S ONE IN EVERY CROWD」をプロモートする意味合いがあったわけですが、その収録曲Singin’ The Blues、Better Make It Through Todayはセットインしているものの、この日はあまりにレアなナンバーが目白押しなのが魅力です。「461 OCEAN BOULEVARD」のアコースティックナンバーGive Me Strengthをエレクトリックバージョンでプレイしているほか、Badgeへの導入として激レアなナンバーDon’t Know What to Doをプレイ。このパターンは、長年何度と演奏されているこのナンバーにあってもこの時限りのものでした。そしてGive Me Strengthのライブバージョンが聴けるのは、75年ツアーでは、と言うよりも彼の全キャリアをもってしてもこの日しかないのです。しかもエレクトリックでプレイしているとなると、これはもう「激レア」テイクと言っていいでしょう。さらにデレク＆ザ・ドミノス時代にも数回しかライブ演奏されていなかったKeep On Growingをフィナーレに持ってくるという構成。この日はこのように、非常にレアと言えるセットだったわけです。その他でもNobody Knows You When You’re Down And Out、Tell The Truthなどドミノスナンバーを多くプレイしているのが特徴的です。演奏の方も、オープニングのLaylaの後奏では何とクラプトンが珍しくスライドでソロをとっているというレアなパターンを聴くことができます。さらに何よりもこの日のクラプトンの調子が良いことが特筆もので、FurTher On Up The Roadなどを聴いていただくと、畳み掛けられる切れ味鋭いフレーズの嵐にはマニアの方は思わずにっこりされることでしょう。そしてやはり、この日もアンコールにはカルロス・サンタナが飛入りしていました。この日の二人の共演は本盤でこそ聴けるようになったものです。この日のこのナンバーは、何と二度も曲中でブレイクを挿むという珍しい構成で演奏されていました。サンタナとアルフォンソ・ムーゾンを招き入れながら、よくこんなイレギュラーなパターンできちんと演奏できたものだと思います。先日リリースの翌日公演「St. Louis 1975」とはまったく違うセットリストとパフォーマンス。本邦初公開のカンサス公演の良質オーディエンスマスターをサウンドボードマスターで的確に補った完全収録盤です。75年のカンサス公演は本盤が決定版となるでしょう。限定プレスCDでのリリースとなりますので、お早めのオーダーをお願い致します。
