As a ELP, Japan tour in 1996, which was the last live in Japan. This tour was truly amazing. Based on the achievements of 1992 sold out until the additional performances again, the 1996 Japanese tour increased even more and all 10 performances. Starting in Fukuoka on October 8th, I entered Tokyo after going to Osaka on the 9th and Nagoya on the 10th. Shibuya Public Hall on the 12th, 13th Tokyo Kenkin Kinen Kaikan on 13th, Sendai on 14th, Nakano Senplaza on 15th, 17th and 18th, and the Saitama · Urawa Cultural Center on the last 19th …… Wu. Only 12 days to move / off is only 2 days. It seems that it will be dizzy to compact the schedule just by licking the schedule.
In the meantime, this work was recorded in the 4th and 5th performances (Tokyo 1st and 2nd performances) “October 12th · Shibuya Public Hall Concert” and “October 13 · Tokyo Kenkin Kinenkan”. Directly used DAT Master handed directly from Taper himself. There is only the same taper as “2nd October · Nakano Sanguraza Performance = DEFINITIVE TOKYO 1996” in press 2CD, this is a wonderful sound full of vivid feeling like a line sound source. Especially the sound of “October 12, Shibuya public hall performance” of Disc 1 and 2 is masterpieces. An announcement before the performance was recorded plenty for a quarter and a half, and it was such an overwhelming presence feeling as if it really went back on the day (“When burning garbage, separate burnable garbage and burnable garbage … …” etc. To be careful with discrimination is: bitter smile).
Besides, Keith is doing fine on this day and you can listen to a smooth fingering that is reminiscent of the heyday, which was called “Improvisable forever”. Bitches Crystal “,” Take A Pebble “,” Stones Of Years “everyone was surprised, exploding solos that even piercing the organ, even the organisms are bursting. The set list is almost the same as “DEFINITIVE TOKYO 1996”, but this Atsuko showed off Japanese version of “Hammer It Out” of “IN THE HOT SEAT” instead of “Honky Tonk Train Blues”. “October 13, Tokyo Kosei n jin kaikan” of Disk 3 · 4 is also basically sound similar to Disk 1 · 2, but in comparison it is a stereo recording that makes me feel a wide space. Again, this is a different dimension from the audience recording of Soya-soupa. This is one recommended piece.

ELPとして、最後の日本でのライヴとなった、1996年のジャパン・ツアー。このツアーも本当に凄かった。再々追加公演まで完売した1992年の実績を踏まえ、1996年の日本ツアーは、さらに増えて全10公演。10月８日の福岡を皮切りに、９日の大阪、10日の名古屋を経て東京入り。12日の渋谷公会堂、13日東京厚生年金会館をこなし、14日は仙台、15日・17日・18日が中野サンプラザ、そしてラストが19日の埼玉・浦和文化センター……ふぅ。たった12日間で移動/オフはわずか２日だけ。日程をなめるだけでスケジュールの圧縮ぶりに目眩がしそうです。
そんな中で、本作が録音されたのは４・５公演目（東京１・２公演目）となる「10月12日・渋谷公会堂公演」と「10月13日・東京厚生年金会館」。テーパー本人から直接手渡されたDATマスターをダイレクトに使用。プレス２CDの「10月15日・中野サンプラザ公演＝DEFINITIVE TOKYO 1996」と同一テーパーだけあって、こちらもライン音源かのようなビビッド感溢れる素晴らしいサウンド。特にディスク１・２の「10月12日・渋谷公会堂公演」のサウンドは圧巻。開演前のアナウンスも４分半に渡ってたっぷりと収録しており、本当に当日戻ったかのような圧倒的な臨場感（「ゴミを捨てる際には、燃えるゴミと燃えないゴミを分け……」など、分別まで注意するとは：苦笑）です。
しかも、この日はキースが絶好調で“永遠にインプロヴァイズできる”と称された全盛期すら彷彿とさせる滑らかな指さばきを聴かせてくれる。誰もが驚いた「Bitches Crystal」や「Take A Pebble」、「Stones Of Years」など、ピアノ、オルガンを問わず殺気すら感じるソロを炸裂させています。セットリストは「DEFINITIVE TOKYO 1996」とほぼ同じですが、この渋公では「Honky Tonk Train Blues」の代わりに「IN THE HOT SEAT」の日本盤ボートラ「Hammer It Out」を披露。スピーディなピアノ小品で、絶好調のキースにはまさにうってつけ。冴えに冴えまくるパッセージがなんとも嬉しい１テイクです。
ディスク３・４の「10月13日・東京厚生年金会館」も基本的にディスク１・２に近いサウンドですが、比較するとワイドな空間を感じさせてくれる立体録音。これまた、そんじょそこらの客席録音とはまるで違う次元です。お薦めの一枚です。
