Speaking of the record of Rude 5 by Mike Millard, “LOS ANGELES 1991: MIKE MILLARD MASTER TAPES” has already been released, but I didn’t expect him to record up to Rude 5 in 1989! Its sound quality is really wonderful. An on-sound image with a fully open mirrored quality that slightly surpasses that masterpiece “COLUMBIA 1989”. Originally, press CD is not strange.
Speaking of Costello in 1989, the representative song “Veronica” was a big hit. せっかく名盤「SPIKE」の雰囲気を最も忠実に再現したツアーだったにもかかわらず期間が短かったことが災いし、リアタイでは一切のアイテムが生み出されませんでした。おまけに良質なオーディエンス録音にも恵まれず、文字通りマニアの間で伝説的なツアーとされてきたのです。
そうした中で突如ネットに現れた極上音源をリリースしたのがUXBRIDGEの名盤「COLUMBIA 1989」でした。トレーダー間に長年出回っていた音源はどれも89年の割にスッキリしないオーディエンス録音ばかりだったというのに、それらを一掃するような見事なクオリティはマニアを狂喜させたもの。

ところが今度はミラード・マスターからも幻の89年ルード5ツアーの記録が発掘。マイク・ミラードによるルード5の記録といえば既に「LOS ANGELES 1991: MIKE MILLARD MASTER TAPES」がリリース済ですが、まさか彼が89年版ルード5まで録音してくれていたとは！その音質が実に素晴らしい。あの名盤「COLUMBIA 1989」を軽く凌駕するミラード・クオリティ全開のオンな音像。本来であればプレスCDでもおかしくない。
そして89年のコステロと言えば代表曲「Veronica」の大ヒット。それを受け、このツアーにおいて同曲は当時の最新曲ながらアンコールで演奏されるという破格の扱いを受けました。それだけでなくブレアの鉄琴やソールズのハーモニーが合わさってスタジオ・バージョンの雰囲気をステージで忠実に再現してくれているのが尊い。
幻のオリジナル・ルード5メンバーによって繰り広げられた、リアタイ「SPIKE」ライブ、あるいは「Veronica」のオリジナル・アレンジがミラードならではの極上音質で聞けるだなんて…世界中のコステロ・マニアが感涙すること間違いなし！
