DIRE STRAITS at the time of their debut, which sent the album “DIRE STRAITS” to the 2nd place in the US and the single “Sultans of Swing” to the 4th place, and shocked the US. Introducing the finest version of the soundboard album that will be the monument.
What is recorded in this work is “March 6, 1979 Philadelphia performance”. This is a stereo soundboard recording recorded at the traditional venue “Tower Theater” (strictly speaking, the “Tower Theater” is located in Upper Darby next to Philadelphia. However, this venue is traditionally “Philadelphia”. Known as “The Great Venue of Delphia”). Speaking of 1979, it is remembered as the year of the 2nd album “COMMUNIQUE”, but this work is the debut tour before that. In order to understand the situation in that area, let’s unravel from the schedule at that time.

● 1978
・ January 10-March 21: UK # 1 (10 performances)
・ April 19-July 22: UK # 2 (24 performances)
“October 7” DIRE STRAITS “released”
・ October 12th-November 18th: Europe # 1 (30 performances)
“November 28-December 12” COMMUNIQUE “production”
● 1979
・ February 11-18: Europe # 2 (8 performances)
・ February 23-April 2: North America # 1 (28 performances) ← ★ Coco ★
・ May 23-June 14: Europe # 3a (18 performances)
“Released” COMMUNIQUE “on June 15”
・ June 15th-July 8th: Europe # 3b (12 performances)
・ September 8th-October 7th: North America # 2 (22 performances)
・ November 1st-December 12th: Europe # 4 (30 performances)

This is the 1978/1979 DIRE STRAITS. “COMMUNIQUE” was completed at the end of 1978, but it was released half a year later. In the meantime, I was touring the West. The Tower Theater performance of this work was the 8th performance of “North America # 1” which is one of the acts. And this “North America # 1” is their first trip to the United States. In other words, this work is about two weeks after the first landing of the new continent, and you can enjoy the enthusiasm in the middle of culture shock, which is completely different from Europe.
This show is also known to have been broadcast on the radio on “WNEW-FM”, and has been a staple that has produced a group of already-occurring groups for a long time. However, this work is not such an existing copy or remastered recurrence. It is the best master that appeared very recently, and the intro before “Down To The Waterline”, which was lacking in the existing bootleg, is also recorded, and the song order is correct. Although it must be an air check, it is a brand that was digitized directly from the cassette recorded at that time, and there is no aging deterioration or dubbing marks. The separation and the sense of stability are outstanding, and the excavated sound source is the best sound that can be called “completely official class” in modern times.
The semi-official sound is a show that can be called the “live performance version of the debut work”. There are several broadcasts from the debut era, but the most famous one is the official version “LIVE AT THE BBC”, so let’s compare and organize them.

● Sad Sartan (8 songs)
・ Down To The Waterline / Six Blade Knife / Water Of Love / In The Gallery (★) / Lions / Sultans Of Swing / Wild West End / Southbound Again (★)
● Others (2 songs)
・ What’s the Matter Baby? / Eastbound Train (★)
* Note: “★” marks are songs that cannot be heard on the official version “LIVE AT THE BBC”.

…… And it looks like this. As the tour progresses, the songs from the 2nd album will also be played, but here it is still centered on the debut work “DIRE STRAITS”. Moreover, out of all 9 songs on the album, all songs except “Setting Me Up” are acting on a large scale. Speaking of 1979, the professional shots of “ROCKPALAST” are also standard, but “Southbound Again” is a delicious song that you can’t even hear there. And, in such a “DIRE STRAITS” rush, the B-side song “Eastbound Train” of the single “Sultans of Swing” which was in the middle of a big hit and the unreleased song “What’s the Matter Baby?” Are studded. ..
The set was also rich because it was at the time of its debut, and the performance that spelled it was a great performance that had just embarked on the invasion of the United States. On the contrary, the compactness of the 6-minute range, which is similar to the album, of the major song “Sultans Of Swing” feels fresh. A soundboard album that brings passion that can only be found in “Spring 1979” directly into your brain. That is a semi-official piece that is suitable to be shelved next to “DIRE STRAITS”. Please enjoy yourself with the best master.

★ Stereo sound board recording of “March 6, 1979 Philadelphia Performance”. It was an early live performance of their first US tour, which was the 8th performance, and it was a brand that was digitized directly from the cassette that recorded the FM broadcast at that time. With complete official quality, you can enjoy the large-scale behavior of all songs except “Setting Me Up” from the debut work. “What’s the Matter Baby?” And “Eastbound Train”, which are unique to the early days, are also delicious semi-official soundboard albums.

Down To The Waterline/Six Blade Knife/Water Of Love/In The Gallery(★)/Lions/Sultans Of Swing/Wild West End/Southbound Again(★)
What’s the Matter Baby?/Eastbound Train(★)
※注:「★」印は公式盤『LIVE AT THE BBC』で聴けない曲。

そして、そんな『DIRE STRAITS』ラッシュの中に、大ヒット真っ最中だったシングル『Sultans of Swing』のB面曲「Eastbound Train」や未発表曲だった「What’s the Matter Baby?」
