これが“ADRENALIZE SEVEN DAY WEEKEND TOUR”の概要。本作のシェフィールド公演は「欧州#2」最終日であり、日本へと渡る直前のコンサートでした。そんなショウはプロショットで撮影され、５年ぶりの来日に湧く日本でも放送されました。実のところ、この映像は一部がオフィシャル作品『VIDEO ARCHIVE』にも収録されましたが、本作はそれより７曲も多い日本放送なのです。
気になるクオリティは、まさに極上。もちろん、90年代初頭ですのでアナログ撮影＆録画なのですが、マスター鮮度が素晴らしくダビング劣化も経年劣化もまるで見られない。白線ノイズ１本どころか、テープ走行のヨレさえも感じられず、ステージに向かうメンバー達と共に表示される「ステレオ」の文字や曲名テロップまで極めてシャープ。それこそ、当時のテレビ電波が時空を飛び越えてやってきたかのような映像美なのです。
その映像美で描かれるのは、度重なる困難も跳ね返してきた不死鳥バンドの熱演。『VIDEO ARCHIVE』よりも長いとは言っても放送枠の関係かフルショウではないのですが、その編集意図は間違いなくグレイテストヒッツ。『PYROMANIA』『HYSTERIA』の大ヒットナンバーをズラリと揃えており、そこに『ADRENALIZE』のヒット・シングル「Let’s Get Rocked」「Make Love Like A Man」「Have You Ever Needed Someone So Bad」を交え、映画『LAST ACTION HERO』からの最新カットだった「Two Step Behind」も披露する。気がつけば、初期の「Another Hit and Run」以外は、すべてヒット・シングル曲という豪華さなのです。
そんなセットを描く彼らの姿がまた、力強くも清々しい。当時はすでに80年代の喧噪も過去のものとなっており、（リック・サヴェージ以外）ラフな出で立ちとなっていますが、そのメロディもビートもハーモニーも濃厚なDEF LEPPARD印。ここに至るまで丸１年以上ツアーを続けてきたこともあって、ヴィヴィアンにも“新参”感がまったくない。現在に至る新生DEF LEPPARDアンサンブルがキッチリと完成しているのです。さらにポイントなのがサウンド。やり過ぎとも思えた80年代的サウンド・プロダクションがややシンプルになっており、曲そのものの良さが一層際立って聞こえる。“80年代の残り香”と“90年代ロックサウンド”の融合……彼らに限った話ではありませんが、これこそ90年代初頭だけの、80年代生き残り組だけの旨み。それをオフィシャル級クオリティで約90分たっぷりと味わえるのです。
