Hammersmith 4 performances that became a highlight of his home country even during the ill-fated Joe Lynn Turner era. Among them, a masterpiece original recording that lets you fully experience the third night, which is not blessed with sound sources while showing plenty of rare songs, is released.
The precious show is “March 16, 1991 Hammersmith Odeon Performance”. This work is an excellent audience recording that conveys the whole picture. Suddenly I thought it was “highlight” or “precious”, but without basic information, something was refreshing. First, let’s look back at the panoramic view of the “SLAVES AND MASTERS Tour” that was realized for only eight months.

・ February 4-March 17: Europe # 1 (30 performances) ← ★ Coco ★
・ April 10-May 15: North America (9 performances)
・ June 24-July 3: Asia (6 performances)
・ August 16-24: South America (7 performances)
・ September 14-26: Europe # 2 (5 performances)
・ September 28 + 29: Israel (2 performances)

This is a one-time Joe era tour. There were two European tours, one at the beginning and the other at the end, but “Europe # 2” is for rock developing countries such as Eastern Europe and Greece. The home country of England is the final stage of “Europe # 1”. Moreover, the traditional venue “Hammersmith Odeon” was set for the last four performances. Speaking of Hammersmith performances, our definitive board “CONQUERS LONDON (Darker Than Blue 137-140)” is also popular, but this work is a separate performance. Let’s zoom in for 4 days here.

・ March 14 “CONQUERS LONDON (Disc 1-2)”
・ March 15 (2nd day)
・ March 16 (3rd day) ← ★ This work ★
・ March 17 “CONQUERS LONDON (Disc 3-4)”

“CONQUERS LONDON” is a set of 2 performances on the first day and the last day, and there are other companies already on the second day. However, on the third day, there were only partial recordings and subtle audience shots, and no masterpiece-level full live album had ever been released. This work is a long-awaited work that conveys the whole view of such a precious show, but the quality is also excellent. Although it is the original master only for this work brought by its own route, the recorder is not the “British master” who is familiar in our shop, but his friend. I don’t know if there was any lending or borrowing of equipment or exchange of know-how, but this work is also a masterpiece and is a well-known product.
The most powerful thing is the core that is turned on and reaches the ear straight. Each instrument is beautifully separated up to each note, and the sharp outline like a laser beam is also great. The feel of the sound is a little dusty and glossy, but the master freshness is (naturally) great, and there is no recording distortion or cracking at the peak. Although it is not a step closer to the press version of “CONQUERS LONDON”, it is a wonderful live album that is different from the audience recordings of so many places.
The original sound is drawn with a full show that has been devised because it is 4 nights in a row. Of course, the basic set is the same for all four nights, but there are also replacements for the play insert songs. Here, let’s organize it while comparing it with the masterpiece “CONQUERS LONDON”.

● 70’s Classics
・ Phase II: Black Night / Lazy / Highway Star / Smoke on the Water
・ Phase III: Burn
● Reunion era
・ Perfect Strangers: Perfect Strangers / Knocking at Your Back Door
・ Slaves and Masters: Truth Hurts / The Cut Runs Deep / Fire in the Basement / King Of Dreams / Love Conquers All
● Others
・ Hey Joe / That’ll Be The Day (★) / Difficult to Cure / A Whiter Shade Of Pale (★) / In The Hall Of The Mountain King (★)
* Note: The “★” mark is a song that cannot be heard in the two performances of “CONQUERS LONDON”.

… And it looks like this. Daily songs such as “King Of Dreams” and “Lazy” and songs such as “Hey Joe” that were only one performance in “CONQUERS LONDON” are solid. On top of that, there is a diverse repertoire such as PROCOL HARUM’s “A Whiter Shade Of Pale”, which is performed in advance of “Lazy”, and “In The Hall Of The Mountain King”, which is inserted between “Smoke On The Water”. Makes the show colorful. And the best part is Buddy Holly’s masterpiece “That’ll Be The Day”. This is also played for about 1 minute as an introduction to “Perfect Strangers”, but it includes a song in which Chitin and everyone participated. In the first place, the original song is only about 2 minutes long, so it’s very satisfying to listen to.
It is a live album that is a highlight of the home country and is diverse because it is 4 performances at the same venue, and the repertoire is delicious because Joe sings. An original master who can fully experience a night full of collectors with wonderful sound. Please enjoy it together with the decisive board “CONQUERS LONDON”.

★ Masterpiece audience recording of “March 16, 1991 London performance”. This is the original recording of this work, which will be the first appearance on the 3rd night of Hammersmith’s 4 consecutive performances, which is different from the press decision board “CONQUERS LONDON”. The most powerful thing is the core that is on and reaches your ears straight. Each instrument is beautifully separated up to each note, and the sharp outline like a laser beam is also great. Because it’s four nights in a row, you can enjoy not only “King Of Dreams” and “Hey Joe” but also the extremely rare “A Whiter Shade Of Pale” and “That’ll Be The Day” with songs.

★★ Original master provided by an English recorder. Completely first appearance sound source.

ハマースミス公演と言えば、当店の決定盤『CONQUERS LONDON(Darker Than Blue 137-140)』でも人気ですが、本作は別公演。

・3月14日『CONQUERS LONDON(Disc 1-2)』
・3月17日『CONQUERS LONDON(Disc 3-4)』

Burn
Perfect Strangers/Knocking at Your Back Door

●その他
・Hey Joe/That’ll Be The Day(★)/Difficult to Cure/A Whiter Shade Of Pale(★)/In The Hall Of The Mountain King(★)

その上で「Lazy」の前振り的に演奏されるPROCOL HARUMの「A Whiter Shade Of Pale」、「Smoke On The Water」の合間に差し込まれる「In The Hall Of The Mountain King」など、多彩なレパートリーがショウをカラフルにしている。そして極めつけなのがバディ・ホリーの名曲「That’ll Be The Day」。

4夜連続だからこそ工夫が凝らされ、「King Of Dreams」や「Hey Joe」だけでなく、激レアな「A Whiter Shade Of Pale」「That’ll Be The Day」も歌入りでしっかりと楽しめます。
