これが1984年／1985年のDEEP PURPLE。本作のネブワース公演は「欧州」ツアー５公演目にあたるコンサートでした。これだけなら普通のショウのように思えますが、そうではなかった。全体を見ると欧米だけでなく日本、オセアニアも巡る文字通りのワールドツアーだったわけですが、その間に母国イギリスで行われたのはたったの１公演のみ。ただし、それだけ貴重な機会だけあって規模は巨大。大ヒット真っ最中のSCORPIONSやミートローフ、UFO、バーニー・マースデンのALASKA、BLACKFOOT、MAMA’S BOYSと、７組ものバンドを従えたフェス形式のヘッドライナー。それこそ「80年代のカリジャム」とでも言えそうな、再結成時代最大の大舞台だったのです。

もちろん、本作は公式盤のコピーやリマスターではありません。『IN THE ABSENCE OF PINK』よりも音が良い新発掘のプリFMマスターを使用し、放送版には欠けていた「Lazy」を公式盤で補填して現存するサウンドボードをすべて網羅。さらにサウンドボードが存在していない２曲や幾つかのMCまで同日の極上オーディエンス録音で補完した完全版なのです。ここでセット整理と併せてまとめてみましょう。

しかも、サウンドも最高峰を更新している。オフィシャルもBBCのマスターが劣化していたのか、それとも加工のしすぎなのか、ベースがモコモコと分離が悪く、その一方でドラムの打音はピークが異様に強調。パッツンパッツンで伸びが感じられず、全体的にもゴワゴワとした感触。ヘッドフォンだと最後まで聴けずに耳が痛くなるようなサウンドでした。それに対し、本作は極めてナチュラル。録音状況までは変わりようがないので「まるでMADE IN JAPANのように美しい！」と言ったら過言になってしまいますが、ギターやヴォーカルがどんなに苛烈に弾き倒そうと滑らかに美しく、バスドラの打音ピークもギランのシャウトもド迫力でありながら耳も痛くならない。『IN THE ABSENCE OF PINK』を聴き込んだ方ほど「こんなに良いマスターが残っていたのか」と驚かれるでしょうし、なぜこのサウンドで公式盤が作られなかったのか不思議に思われるのではないでしょうか。
そして、欠けを補っているオーディエンス録音も超極上。放送や公式盤があまりに有名なために客録はほとんど知られていなかったのですが、実はアナログ時代から名録音が自体は存在していたのです。そのサウンドはクリアさもダイレクト感も素晴らしく（さすがに「切替ポイントも分からない」と言ったらウソですが）サウンドボードと並べても違和感はほとんどありません。
