DEEP PURPLE in 1998, which was celebrating its 30th anniversary as a progressive unit. A masterpiece live album with a heap of extremely rare songs is now available.
What is recorded in this work is “July 9, 1998 Paris performance”. It is a superb audience recording that vacuum-packed one act of “ABANDON Tour”. After the reunion, they are constantly releasing albums, but the biggest blank between “ABANDON (1998)” and “BANANAS (2003)”. It was 5 years with only tours and live works. Among them, 1998, immediately after the release of the album, is an unexplored region where no official live works are left. First of all, let’s imagine the position of the show from the positional relationship with the latest official works “TOTAL ABANDON: AUSTRALIA ’99” and “IN CONCERT WITH THE LONDON SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA”.

● 1998
・ January 28-February 8: North America # 1 / Central America (8 performances)
<< Released “ABANDON” on June 2nd >>
・ June 1st-July 12th: Europe # 1 (27 performances) ← ★ Coco ★
・ August 4-30: North America # 2 (20 performances)
・ September 15th-November 28th: Europe # 2 (39 performances)
● 1999
・ March 19-April 4: South America (12 performances)
・ April 16-May 1: Australia / Malaysia (10 performances) ← * Official work
・ June 4-July 31: Europe # 3 / Korea (31 performances)
・ September 25 + 26: London (2 performances) ← * Official work

This is the 1998/1999 DEEP PURPLE. Both of the above official works were in the 1999 stage, but this work is earlier in 1998. It was the 25th performance of “Europe # 1”, about a month after the release of “ABANDON”.
The show was 23 years ago, but this work recorded at the site is the best recording of a new excavation that was recently excavated. Anyway, the extra-thick core approaches the ear without a sense of distance, and the glossy sound and delicate details to the fine parts are super first-class. Ian Paice’s delicate drumming is so three-dimensional that even the structure of the kit is noticeable, and the dancing John Lord’s Hammond and Steve Morse’s feats do not mix. And Ian Gillan’s singing voice. You can enjoy not only the lyrics word by word, but also the nuances of each syllable. Although the vivid applause and snare sounds give the impression of an audience, the so-called “sound board” goes on the ground … No, it’s a beautiful recording that makes me want to call it “official”.
What is drawn with such a fastball sound is a full show that is too delicious with a series of extremely rare songs that can not be heard anywhere else. As mentioned above, the official board “TOTAL ABANDON” is the masterpiece of this period, so let’s check the set while comparing.

● Classics (10 songs)
・ In-Lock: Into The Fire (★) / Speed King
-Machine Head: Pictures Of Home / Smoke On The Water / Lazy / Highway Star
・ Who Do We Think We Are: Woman From Tokyo
・ Others: Hush (★) / Black Night / Strange Kind Of Woman

● After reunion (9 songs)
・ Perfect Strangers: Perfect Strangers
・ Purpendicular: Vavoom: Ted the Mechanic
・ Abandon: Bloodsucker / Fingers To The Bone (★) / Almost Human / Watching The Sky / Seventh Heaven (★) / Evil Louie (★) / Any Fule Kno That (★)
* Note: “★” marks are songs that cannot be heard in “TOTAL ABANDON: AUSTRALIA ’99”.

… And it looks like this. “Hush” is fiercely fresh at the time of the opening, but what is even more appealing is the large-scale behavior of the “ABANDON” number. Only “Almost Human” and the remake “Bloodsucker” were played when leaving Jon Lord, and the others are repertoires only during this period. In particular, the two songs “Fingers To The Bone” and “Evil Louie” are extremely rare songs that were played only in 1998 at the beginning of the tour.
And the balance is more vivid than the rarity of each song. Speaking of shows after joining Mose, the majority of songs are 70’s classics, and the market price is about 4-5 songs in the Mose era. On the other hand, this work includes 7 songs from the new work (including Bloodsucker), and 8 songs including the previous work “Vavoom: Ted the Mechanic”. It’s been 27 years since Mose joined, and it’s no exaggeration to say that this work is the show with the strongest sense of activity.

Not only a heap of rare songs, but also the balance and song order are unusually fresh. It is a masterpiece that allows you to fully experience such a full show unique to 1998 with the highest quality of a sound board. At a time when even enthusiasts tend to overlook it, it was said that they had such a fresh show. A new masterpiece that tells the whole picture. Please enjoy it carefully.

Going on the so-called “sound board” on the ground … No, it’s a beautiful recording that makes me want to call it “official”. “Hush” is fiercely fresh at the time of the opening, but even after that, there is plenty of valuable repertoire such as “Fingers To The Bone” “Seventh Heaven” “Evil Louie” “Any Fule Kno That” that can not be heard in “TOTAL ABANDON”. You can experience it.

まずは、直近のオフィシャル作『TOTAL ABANDON: AUSTRALIA ’99』『IN CONCERT WITH THE LONDON SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA』との位置関係からショウのポジションをイメージしてみましょう。
