これがドイツ日程９公演の全体像。アメリカや母国イギリスに次ぐ規模で、いかにドイツでの人気が高かったのかをうかがわれます。本作は、その５公演目にあたる。
そんな本作のサウンドは、それは見事なオーディエンス・サウンド。『BERLIN 1973』『MUNSTER MASTER』も1973年を代表する名録音だったわけですが、本作も負けず劣らず。現場となった“オリンピアハレ”は、前年のミュンヘンオリンピックのやめに建設された屋内競技場ですが、その空気感がやけに透き通っている。曲間などで静寂になると「リッチー！」と叫ぶ遠くの１人の声や口笛までクリアに響く。その透き通る空気を切り裂く楽音こそが主役で、曲の前につま弾くギターやオルガンも繊細に聴き取れ、全員一丸の大音量で迫っても各人のフレーズが浮き立つ。POWER GATE盤の時点で大好評だったわけですが、今回はその名録音に最新リマスターを実施。全体的なバランスは手を加える必要がないほど整っている名録音でしたが、楽音が一層クッキリと鮮やかになるよう微調整いたしました。もちろん、ムリヤリ楽音のねじ曲げるような野暮は一切行わず、マスター本来の美しい“鳴り”を最大限活かした仕上がりです。
そのクリアさで描かれる“第２期の末期”がまた、なんとも味わい深い。もちろん、“黄金の1972年”ほどの神懸かったテンションには届かないのですが、１人ひとりに耳を傾けると美味しいフレーズをこれでもか！と繰り出しつつ、ていねいに演奏していく。我を忘れるような爆テンションではないからこそ、楽曲の良さ、各人の素養がムキ出しになるような面白さがある。リッチーのギター・トーンは、全編にわたって冴え渡っていますし、このツアーだけの「Mary Long」も美味しい。さらにキーボードソロから続く「Lazy」以降の展開ではジョン・ロードも数々のキラめく即興フレーズが目映いほど。そして、それが手触り感覚で分かるほどに本作のサウンドは素晴らしいのです。
