これが第II期の誕生から1969年いっぱいまでのスケジュール。ロッド・エヴァンスとニック・シンパーの最終公演は“７月４日”で、その約一週間後にはイアン・ギラン＆ロジャー・グローヴァーとステージに立っていました。その後、イギリスで肩慣らし的に数公演をこなしつつ、海外へ進出。本作前半の“JAZZ BILZEN”は、そんな大陸ヨーロッパ第１日目。もう一方の“ESSEN INTERNATIONAL POP & BLUES FESTIVAL”は『CONCERTO FOR GROUP AND ORCHESTRA』を経た後の「欧州#2」で、『IN ROCK』制作のためにスタジオ入りする３日前のステージでした。

そんな２公演はマルチカメラ・プロショットが残された事でも有名で、以前から第II期DEEP PURPLEの最初期映像として珍重されてきました。本作もまたその定番プロショットなのですが、これまでと大きく異なる。なんと、史上初のカラー版なのです！　ただし、カラーフィルムが新発掘されたわけではありません。本作は、最近話題になっているAIプログラムによる人工着色版なのです。アンダーグラウンドの音源／映像は技術の進歩をビビッドに感じやすいものですが、遂にモノクロ映像のカラー化が個人ベースでも可能になったのです。
注目のクオリティは……意外なほどに自然。ここで言う「自然」とは、現場の色合いをリアルに再現という意味ではありません。むしろ、どちらかと言うとモノクロ映像のセピア化という感じ。ただし、その風合いにわざとらしさがない。従来のような人間の手作業ベースの着色の場合、どうしても意図があざとい「塗り絵」的になってしまいました。しかし。本作はプログラムによる自動のために意図がなく、色とりどりの照明に照らされていたであろう現場ムードが自然に感じられる。そして何より、そのセピア感がヴィンテージな内容にぴったりフィットしているのです。
もちろん、見応えは格段にアップ。モノクロでは背景と人物が一体化して感じられましたが、本作は肌や髪の質感が生々しく、楽器や壁の無機質感から浮き立って見える。ご存じの通り、「Wring That Neck」や「Mandrake Root」といったインスト曲がメインなためにイアン・ギランの絶唱はオアズケですが、ジョン・ロードは絆創膏も痛々しい指先を走らせ、リッチー・ブラックモアはギブソンES-335とストラトキャスターを激しく吠えさせ、イアン・ペイスは今にも汗が飛び散りそうな勢いで叩きまくる……そんな肢体の肉感が苛烈なインプロヴィゼーションとシンクロし、さらなる躍動感を醸してくれるのです。
