That “strongest band” is, of course, DLR BAD in 1986. EAT ‘EM BAND “which produced the superstars’ famous board ‘EAT’ EM AND SMILE ‘with Steve Vai & Billy Scene’ s transcendental strings team. And “the strongest board” is the best audience recording of “Fresno Performance December 14, 1986”. It is a complete version digitized directly from its grand master.

This Fresno recording is a big staple from ancient times. “EAT ‘EM BAND If you listen to the first time!” Is a name recording that is said, “SHYBOY IN FRESNO (Shades 459)” is also popular in our shop. What is wonderful is exhausting to the quality. At that time … … No, even now some collectors are trading as sound boards, the sound and thick sounds are outstanding. Of course, as a matter of fact it is an audience recording, but the venue acoustics which are slightly clear are transparent and I do not feel the distance feeling. Despite sucking in enthusiasm of popularity, it is a spectacle element to the last. It is a feeling that spreads far away than extreme performance / singing voice.
Even in the record of a number of EAT ‘EM BANDs, only this Fresno performance is treated as a sound board. It is truly the strongest recording, but there was also a big drawback. It is short. Most of the past episodes so far were incomplete versions, and it was about 77ths of “SHYBOY IN FRESNO” that was regarded as the highest quality.

But this work is different. Although it is the same recording as the masterpiece group so far, it is a complete recording album of the full show. Besides, it is not just a complete recording. This work was digitized directly from Omoto master cassette. Since it was not expanded with another recording’s shadow haigi, it completely penetrates the whole thing with super high quality sound.
Moreover, the sound itself is also upgraded. The direct feeling which has been treated as a sound board so far more vividly, the detail is more detailed, the ringing is more beautiful. その“最強バンド”とは、もちろん1986年のDLR BAD。スティーヴ・ヴァイ&ビリー・シーンの超絶ストリングス・チームを擁し、希代の大名盤『EAT ‘EM AND SMILE』を生み出した通称“EAT ‘EM BAND”です。そして、“最強盤”とは「1986年12月14日フレズノ公演」の極上オーディエンス録音。その大元マスターからダイレクトにデジタル化された完全版なのです!

このフレズノ録音は、古くからの大定番。「EAT ‘EM BANDを聴くならまずはコレ!」と言われる名録音で、当店でも『SHYBOY IN FRESNO(Shades 459)』が好評を博しています。何が素晴らしいかと言えば、クオリティに尽きる。当時は……いえ、現在でも一部のコレクターがサウンドボードとして取引しているほどでして、その骨太・肉厚な演奏音は絶品。もちろん、事実としてはオーディエンス録音なのですが、ほんのりした会場音響もクリアに透き通っており、距離感を感じない。人気絶頂の熱狂も吸い込んではいるものの、あくまでスペクタクル要素。極太な演奏/歌声よりも遠くに広がる感覚なのです。
数あるEAT ‘EM BANDの記録でも、サウンドボード扱いされているのはこのフレズノ公演だけ。まさに最強録音なのですが、大きな欠点もありました。それは短さ。これまでの既発はほとんどが不完全版で、最高クオリティとされてきた『SHYBOY IN FRESNO』でも約77分の1枚物だったのです。


そのクオリティで描かれる最強バンドのショウ……やっぱり、凄い! 希代のエンターテイナー、ダイヤモンド・デイヴの一大全盛期。お調子者は人気が高いほど凄まじいものですが、それが天井知らずにノリまくっている。そして何より、ヴァイ&ビリーの最強ストリングス・チーム! MR. BIG他でも技巧バトルを繰り広げていくビリーですが、やはりヴァイはレベルが違う。単に速く巧いのではなく、彼が生み出した変態フレーズが鮮やかに舞い狂う。そのヴァイに対抗するからこそ、ビリーもどのバンドよりもド派手に引き倒せるというものです。
ヴァイ自身で見てもハンパない。デイヴの豪快アメリカンHRは、明らかにALCATRAZZやWHITESNAKEよりもヴァイにぴったり。デイヴと出会ったことでユーモアと豪快さがシンクロし、超個性フレーズも珍奇ではなく必然の音に昇華している。すべてをコントロールするソロライヴほどの完成度は望めないものの、歌入りバンドではEAT ‘EM BAND以上にヴァイが輝いたバンドはないでしょう。
そして、そのアンサンブルで描かれるセットも最高! 希代の大名盤『EAT ‘EM AND SMILE』ナンバーも勢いアップ、バトル増量で迫りますが、生まれ変わった初期VAN HALENのレパートリーも凄い。実に8曲の大盤振る舞いで、どれも超ストリングスのド迫力バージョン。エディの印象的なフレーズはさらに奇抜になり、実際にVAN HALENに加入しかけたこともあるビリーも「こうやって弾きたかった!」と言わんばかり。方向性もボリュームも明らかに初期VAN HALENのアップデートを狙っており、いくつかの代表曲だけを残して衣替えしてしまった本家とは対照的。本作は、そんな“伝説の続き”を体感できるライヴアルバムでもあるのです。

EAT ‘EM BAND embodying the extreme north of the American HR, with a combination of genius, Steve Vai & Billy Scene. This volume press 2CD is a complete version by Master Direct of its vertex recording. It is exactly the ultimate live album. Originally it is an unnecessary super masterpiece such as a bonus, but EAT ‘EM BAND sounds amazing not only by sound but also by eyes. So I prepared a masterpiece image so that I could taste the sight.
Such a work is contained in “Montreal Performance November 1, 1986”. So this is a good opportunity so let’s take a bird’s-eye view of the world’s only strongest band tour here.

This is the big picture of “EAT ‘EM AND SMILE TOUR 1986-1987”. While the Fresno performance of the main press press 2CD was the 35th performances of “North America # 2”, the Montreal performance of this work was a concert corresponding to eight performances.
This work which contained such a show has been known for a long time as a masterpiece audience shot. This work is its highest version. Speaking of representative footage of this tour, Detroit performance (you can enjoy at “DEFINITIVE DETROIT 1986 (Shades 686)”), but this video is amazing though. I shoot a little down from the stand front in the center front of the stage and I am replacing the handrail in the front seat with a tripod, the visibility and stability of zero obstruction are amazing. In spite of the ultra-active show where the three people of Dave Vai Billy run around the gigantic stage to the left and right respectively, they are holding down the highlight with no hand shake. It was a masterpiece of Montreal in the ’80s that achieved this image. The other person who recorded VAN HALEN ‘s “MONTREAL 1984” which got popular with being released gifts the other day, the angle and the technique are very similar. It is also the EAT ‘EM BAND version of that super video. And the master freshness of this work is also preeminent. Although it is made public on movie sites etc. only for famous images, it is quite different from the site image of blurred blur. Although it can not declare whether it is the Omoto master itself, there is no doubt that it is quite high, and details are super brilliant if the coloring is natural as well.
And the show drawn with that visual beauty is amazing, it’s too amazing! Anyway, the front three people are super lively and super active. Fly, run, as if there were three Angus Young. Moreover, it is big. All the members are tall with over 180 centimeters and three big towers run around. As mentioned above, this photographer also recorded VAN HALEN in 1984, but Montreal · Forum, which was huge then it looks small.
Moreover, the combination is exquisite. Three people who do not have very good images just because they collapsed soon, but on stage it seems like brothers who were born and raised together. Vai & Billy frequently went side by side to each other’s fingerboards, and almost everything was solved in “Ladies’ Nite In Buffalo?” Or solo time in the latter half of the show. Of course, Dave has not lost. Stay close to Billy and hit a scat and a rapid-fire phrase, and Vai pierces the head from the Dave’s crotch, the man’s manet … ….
Anyway, the stage is a playground, playing play music with toys. Anyway Viku and Billy’s skill arms are the focus of attention, but the essence is not there. Both of us exploded not only the skill that is superior but also the humor spirit. And because the musical sense and withdrawal are preeminent for the three people who also accompanied Dave, it is not interesting to listen to the sound, it is fun to laugh. And, as Greg Bisonornet is also active in the jazz / fusion world, it never catches up to three people who are losing rape. Even in the main press 2CD, I was able to feel the awfulness of the performance, but that it was pulled out with angus burst of rampage … … this terrible, fun is the only thing you can do with the video.

In addition to such a full show, a valuable pro shot video is also included bonus on this work. It appeared in the Japanese TV program “Hit Studio at Night”, but it is live broadcast video of the EAT ‘EM BAND era where Billy also is not at the time of arrival in 1988. The host also said that the talk that “The voice resembles Tamagawa Ryoichi!” Is fun, and the performance of “Yankee Rose” can be watched with multiple cameras and professional shots (although the performance is mime). Even though there was a pro shot of the EAT ‘EM BAND era, it was shocking and it was a Japanese broadcast. To be honest, this part only has poor image quality, but valuable pro shots are overwhelmed.

It is totally amazing. Everything is too terrible EAT ‘EM BAND. Even if we have musical instruments merely, they are not called “strongest”. A super entertainment show where overwhelming transcendental skill is only a toy. A masterpiece picture that can experience the full show of a miraculous rock band with exceptional quality. これが“EAT ‘EM AND SMILE TOUR 1986-1987”の全体像。本編プレス2CDのフレズノ公演は「北米#2」35公演目だったのに対し、本作のモントリオール公演は8公演目にあたるコンサートでした。
そんなショウを収めた本作は、以前から傑作オーディエンス・ショットで知られてもきました。本作はその最高峰版。このツアーの代表映像と言えばデトロイト公演(『DEFINITIVE DETROIT 1986(Shades 686)』でお楽しみ頂けます)ですが、この映像も驚異的。ステージ中央正面のスタンド席からやや見下ろしで撮影しており、最前席の手すりを三脚代わりにしているのか、遮蔽物ゼロの視界と安定感が凄い。デイヴ・ヴァイ・ビリーの3人がそれぞれ巨大ステージを左右に走り回る超アクティヴなショウにも関わらず、手ブレもなく見どころを押さえまくっているのです。これだけの映像を成し遂げたのは、80年代モントリオールを代表する名手。先日、ギフト・リリースされて大人気を博したVAN HALENの『MONTREAL 1984』を記録した人物で、アングルもテクニックも酷似。あの超映像のEAT ‘EM BAND版でもあるのです。そして、本作はマスター鮮度もバツグン。有名映像だけに動画サイトなどでも公開されていますが、ボケボケのサイト映像とはまったく違う。大元マスターそのものかは断言しかねるものの、かなり上位なのは間違いなく、発色もナチュラルならディテールも超鮮やかなのです。
そして、その映像美で描かれるショウこそが凄い、凄すぎる! とにかくフロント3人がド派手で超アクティヴ。飛ぶわ、走るわ、まるでアンガス・ヤングが3人いるかのよう。しかも、デカい。メンバー全員が180センチ超えの長身であり、3人のビッグタワーが駆け回る。前述のように、この撮影者は1984年のVAN HALENも記録しているわけですが、あれだけ巨大だったモントリール・フォラムが小さく見えるほどです。
しかも、コンビネーションも絶妙。すぐに崩壊してしまっただけにあまり仲の良いイメージはない3人ですが、ステージではまるで一緒に生まれ育った兄弟のよう。ヴァイ&ビリーは頻繁に並んでは互いの指板にちょっかいを出し合い、「Ladies’ Nite In Buffalo?」やショウ後半のソロタイムでは、ほとんどコント。もちろん、デイヴも負けてはいない。ビリーに寄り添ってはスキャットと速射フレーズをかけ合い、そのデイヴの股間からヴァイがヘッドを突きだしては男根のマネ……。

そんなフルショウに加え、本作には貴重なプロショット映像もボーナス収録。日本のテレビ番組“夜のヒットスタジオ”に出演したものですが、1988年の来日時ではなく、ビリーもいるEAT ‘EM BAND時代の生中継映像。司会者が「声が玉川良一に似てますね!」と飛ばすトークも楽しく、「Yankee Rose」のパフォーマンスがマルチカメラ・プロショットで観られます(演奏はマイムですが)。EAT ‘EM BAND時代のプロショットが存在していただけでも衝撃な上に、それが日本放送。正直なところ、このパートのみ画質が良くないものの、貴重なプロショットには圧倒されます。

まったくもって凄い。すべてが凄すぎるEAT ‘EM BAND。単に楽器の達人を揃えても“最強”とは呼ばれない。圧倒的な超絶技巧もオモチャにしかならない超エンターテインメント・ショウ。まさに奇跡のロックバンドのフルショウを極上クオリティで体験できる大傑作映像。どうぞ、究極ライヴアルバムである『FRESNO 1986 COMPLETE』と併せて徹底的にご堪能ください!
