In recent years, “Mike Millard Tape” has been digitized from the tape directly connected to the master or the low generation tape. This tape was recorded by Mike Millard, a taper familiar to fans due to the outstanding technology of audience recording. The label has released several sound sources based on this newly digitized Mike Millard tape, but if you look closely, you can see “Brushed Mike Millard Tape” and “Legendary Mike Millard.” Did you notice that there are two types of tapes? Not all Mike Millard tapes have perfect sound quality, and some have a lot of room for improvement, and the “Brushed” series has been significantly improved. Originally, it is almost perfect and there is not much room for sound quality improvement, and the “Legendary” series is the one that has been kept to a minimum such as light editing between songs.
This time, David Bowie is introduced from the “Legendary” series. It is a good sound source of the Los Angeles performance from the 1990 “Sound and Vision” tour. There is almost no need for equalizing adjustment, just a slight adjustment of the sound pressure and track ID position. After the release of “Never Let Me Down”, the release of the best albums such as “Sound and Vision” and “Changes Bowie” has continued in the 1990s, and this tour is also a summary up to this stage. 近年マスター直結、或いはロウ・ジェネレーションのテープからデジタル化が進んでいる“マイク・ミラード・テープ”。オーディエンス録音の卓越した技術でファンにはお馴染みのテーパー、マイク・ミラード氏により録音されたテープです。同レーベルからもこの新デジタル化のマイク・ミラード・テープをマスターにした音源が複数リリースされておりますが、よく見ると“ブラッシュド・マイク・ミラード・テープ”と“レジェンダリー・マイク・ミラード・テープ”の二種類があることにお気付きでしょうか。マイク・ミラード・テープも全てが完璧な音質なわけではなく、中にはかなり手を加えて改良の余地があるものもあり、大幅に手を加えて改良されたものが“ブラッシュド”シリーズ。元々完璧に近く音質改良の余地があまり無く、曲間等の軽い編集など最低限にとどめてあるものが“レジェンダリー”シリーズとなります。
今回は“レジェンダリー”シリーズよりデヴィッド・ボウイの登場です。1990年の“サウンド・アンド・ヴィジョン”ツアーからロサンジェルス公演の良好音源です。ほぼイコライジング調整の必要は無く、若干の音圧とトラックIDの位置を調整した程度です。『ネヴァー・レット・ミー・ダウン』リリース後1990年代に入り『サウンド・アンド・ヴィジョン』、『チェンジズ・ボウイ』などベスト・アルバム的な位置づけのリリースが続いており、このツアーもこの段階までの総括と言ったところ。この日はツアーの中ではレアな『パニック・イン・デトロイト』が演奏されています。
