Bowie in 1983, who was a darling of the times as a pop star. Introducing a live album where you can experience the “SERIOUS MOONLIGHT TOUR” scene.
The content of this work is “June 15, 1983 Bochum performance”. It is the excellent audience recording. “SERIOUS MOONLIGHT TOUR” is known as one of the biggest tours in Bowie’s career, and it is a memorable place even at the big festival “US FESTIVAL” and a large-scale Japan tour. First, let’s look back at the big picture and confirm the position of the show.

“April 14,” LET’S DANCE “released”
・ May 18-29: Europe # 1 (10 performances)
・ May 30: US Festival (1 performance)
・ June 2-July 3: Europe # 2 (21 performances) ← ★ Coco ★
・ July 11-September 17: North America (43 performances) ← * Official video
・ October 20-31: Japan (10 performances)
・ November 4-26: Oceania (10 performances)
・ December 3-8: Asia (4 performances)

This is David Bowie in 1983. “SERIOUS MOONLIGHT TOUR” started in Europe, and during that time, he made a special appearance at “US FESTIVAL”. The Bochum performance of this work was the 10th performance of “Europe # 2”, which is about half a month after such “US FESTIVAL”.
This work that recorded such a show is a slightly unusual masterpiece recording. What has changed is that the first half (DISC 1) and the second half (DISC 2) of the show are recorded separately, and it is a live album with almost a panoramic view. It is not connected at our shop, but is distributed in this form all over the world. With this alone, the half-finished composition is only a mystery, but when I actually listen to it, I am convinced. The sounds are so similar that you wouldn’t notice if you didn’t say “It’s a separate recording”, and there’s almost no discomfort.
Moreover, the sound is excellent. Clearness is the most wonderful thing. Although it is a vintage recording with an audience-like tone, its core is clear and responsive, and there is no blurring or blurring due to the sound. In particular, Bowie’s singing voice is clear word by word in the lyrics. When listening microscopically with headphones, the nuances of the sound have changed slightly between the first half and the second half of this work, but the clearness and sense of distance are really very similar. The factor is probably the venue. The site, “Ruhrstadion,” is famous as a covered soccer stadium, but unlike the dome, the roof has only spectators’ seats. The sky above the ground is wide open. The exact recording position of the two sound sources of this work is not transmitted (I only know that the first half recording is 20 meters from the stage), but probably both are recordings in the ground area. The feeling of openness that does not feel the echo of picking up the sound of PA directly is wonderful.
What is drawn with such a sound is the on-site experience of the exciting “SERIOUS MOONLIGHT TOUR”. This tour is also the official video “SERIOUS MOONLIGHT”, but the set is also slightly different due to the different legs. Let’s organize by comparing here.

・ Space Oddity: Space Oddity
・ Hunky Dory: Life on Mars?
・ Jiggy Stardust: Star (★) / Hang On To Yourself (★)
・ Aladdin Sane: Cracked Actor / The Jean Genie (★)
・ Pin Ups: Sorrow
・ Diamond Dogs: Rebel Rebel
・ Young Americans: Young Americans / Fame
・ Station to Station: Golden Years / Station to Station / Stay (★)
・ Low: What in the World / Breaking Glass
・ Heroes Dream Story: “Heroes”
・ Scary Monsters: Fashion / Scary Monsters (and Super Creeps) / Ashes to Ashes
・ Let’s Dance: Let’s Dance / Cat People (Putting Out Fire) / China Girl / Modern Love
・ Others: White Light / White Heat
* Note: The “★” mark is a song that cannot be heard in the official work “SERIOUS MOONLIGHT”.

… And it looks like this. The set with thicker “Jiggy Stardust” and “Aladdin Sane” numbers than the official video is really delicious, but the more than that is the glorious mood. The spectacle of about 30,000 people who are excited by numerous hit songs is wonderful, and the sea of clapping and big chorus spreads forever. Moreover, there is a sense of openness in which such enthusiasm extends into the wide open sky without a cage. Just close your eyes and the stage under the starry sky will come to you, and you will be intoxicated by the exhilarating mood of a summer festival.
The spectacle and openness of the huge stadium performance. It is a live album where you can stand in the middle and experience the glorious “SERIOUS MOONLIGHT TOUR”. Permanent storage press was not realized because of the unusual composition of different recordings in the first half and the second half, but conversely, the basic quality is so high that the eccentric composition is out of the question, and the show is wonderful. Please thoroughly enjoy this one that allows you to experience the best of the night in 1983.
