This week, a new press CD masterpiece “DEFINITIVE RAINBOW 1972 (Wardour-273)” that has been revived as an upgrade master will be released. However, “The Rainbow Theater in 1972” was not the only one. Therefore, in commemoration of the release of the big decision board, a new excavation master of “Rainbow Theater Performance” will be released as a gift.
“December 23, 1972 London performance” is included in this work. First of all, let’s check the sense of distance from “DEFINITIVE RAINBOW 1972” in the tour schedule.

The above is only the 1972 version of “ZIGGY STARDUST TOUR”. In 1972, the composition was “basic 4 people + keyboard”, but only the keyboard was changed in detail. Nicky Graham was Nicky Graham in the second performance of “UK # 4”, “DEFINITIVE RAINBOW 1972”, but Mike Garson after “North America”. The London performance of this work is a concert that is the first day of “UK # 5” that overcame the North American tour.
For this work, we obtained the original master cassette from the performance on December 23rd through our own route. It’s a live album that was made into a CD directly. The sound is a really great vintage audience. It can’t be compared with the amazing sound of the main press 2CD, but the musical sound is strong and the analog sound of the 70’s is also glossy. I’m especially happy that Mick Ronson’s guitar and the rare charisma “Jiggy Stardust” have a very thick singing voice. It sucks in the vivid enthusiasm of the scene, but it is a powerful musical tone that is completely suppressed while Jiggy is singing.
The sound depicts the appearance of “ZIGGY STARDUST TOUR” that changed in about 4 months. Especially the impact of the opening is quite good. I thought that “O de to Joy” would start, but the usual intro tape didn’t play and I was playing the melody only on the guitar. It is a very rare scene, probably because it was lost because it was the first day of the tour resumption. And the snow falls from there, but not “Hang On To Yourself”, but the Rolling Stones cover “Let’s Spend The Night Together”. As a matter of fact, two weeks before this show, I was in the studio for “ALADDIN SANE”, and I may have already decided to record it.
After that, the show was like a digest of the set of the North American tour that decided the fate, but suddenly the feeling of triumphant return in my hometown oozes after “John, I’m Only Dancing”. Bowie is deeply moved and says, “Very nice to be back in London.” At that moment, the enthusiasm of the Londoners bursts out. Although the performance of this work is hot, it has a relaxed mood, but it is the joy and relief of returning to my hometown of London. It’s a scene like that symbol.

In “DEFINITIVE RAINBOW 1972”, the mood starting with “Lady Stardust” was fresh, but this work is also a rare night when “Let’s Spend The Night Together” starts. It is a live album that expands the scenery only in your hometown London while enriching the taste of “ZIGGY STARDUST TOUR” that shines brightly in the history of rock. This week, when “DEFINITIVE RAINBOW 1972” is born, it is an original master’s brand that we would like you to enjoy together.
今週は、アップグレード・マスターで甦った新たなプレスCDの大名盤『DEFINITIVE RAINBOW 1972（Wardour-273）』が登場します。しかし、”1972年のレインボー・シアター”はその１本だけではありませんでした。そこで大決定盤のリリースを記念し、さらなる“レインボー・シアター公演”の新発掘マスターがギフト・リリース決定です。
そんな本作に収められているのは「1972年12月23日ロンドン公演」。まずは、ツアースケジュールの中で『DEFINITIVE RAINBOW 1972』との距離感を確認しておきましょう。

以上は“ZIGGY STARDUST TOUR”の1972年分だけを取り出したもの。1972年は「基本の４人＋キーボード」という構成でしたが、キーボードだけが細かく交代。「英国#4」２公演目の『DEFINITIVE RAINBOW 1972』はニッキー・グラハムでしたが、「北米」以降はすべてマイク・ガーソン。本作のロンドン公演は、その北米ツアーを乗り越えた「英国#5」の初日にあたるコンサートです。
本作は、そんな12月23日公演のオリジナル・マスターカセットを独自ルートで入手。ダイレクトにCD化したライヴアルバムなのです。そのサウンドは、実に素晴らしいヴィンテージ・オーディエンス。さすがに驚異的な本編プレス２CDのサウンドとは比較できないわけですが、楽音は逞しく、70年代のアナログ感たっぷりな鳴りも艶やか。特にミック・ロンソンのギターと希代のカリスマ“ジギー・スターダスト”の歌声が極太なのが嬉しい。現場の生々しい熱狂も吸い込んではいるのですが、ジギーが歌っている間はすべて制圧され尽くしてしまうほど強力な楽音なのです。
そのサウンドで描かれるのは、約４ヶ月間で様変わりした“ZIGGY STARDUST TOUR”の姿。特にイープニングのインパクトはなかなかのもの。「Ode to Joy」が開演を告げる……と思いきや、いつものイントロテープが流れず、ギターだけであのメロディを弾いている。ツアー再開初日だったせいで紛失していたのか、非常に珍しいシーンです。そして、そこから雪崩れ込むが「Hang On To Yourself」ではなく、ローリング・ストーンズのカバー「Let’s Spend The Night Together」。実のところ、このショウの２週間前には『ALADDIN SANE』のためにスタジオしており、すでに収録を決めていたのかも知れません。
その後は命運を決めた北米ツアーのセットをダイジェストしたようなショウになるのですが、ふと故郷の凱旋感覚が滲むのは「John, I’m Only Dancing」の後。ボウイが感慨深げに「Very nice to be back in London（ロンドンに戻って来られて本当に嬉しいよ）」と語る。その瞬間、ロンドンっ子たちの熱狂がわっと湧き出す。本作のパフォーマンスは全編熱いながらも、どこかリラックスしたムードが貫いているのですが、それは故郷ロンドンに戻ってきた喜びと安堵感。その象徴のようなシーンなのです。
ロンドン伝統の名会場“レインボー・シアター”。『DEFINITIVE RAINBOW 1972』では「Lady Stardust」で始まるムードが新鮮でしたが、本作もまた「Let’s Spend The Night Together」スタートのレアな夜。ロック史に眩しく輝く“ZIGGY STARDUST TOUR”の旨みを濃縮しながら、故郷ロンドンだけの景色が広がるライヴアルバムなのです。『DEFINITIVE RAINBOW 1972』が誕生する今週だからこそ、ぜひ一緒に味わっていただきたいオリジナル・マスターの銘品です。
