Speaking of the performance date at Waltham Brandis University of Cream, September 9, 1967 was the established theory, but this time JEMS has transferred directly from the master cassette of the recorder at that time of this performance. According to it, it was presented as a new fact that the performance date was March 23, 1968, and it turned out that it was a completely different master from all the existing boards in the past! So far, as a bootleg that recorded this sound source, “Synergy” released from Scorpio in 2007 is considered to have the highest sound quality, and it is evaluated by enthusiasts as a complete recording version of monaural audience recording that is easier to hear than average. I received it. Since it was recorded 55 years ago, the recording quality of modern Donpika is not what you want, but it has become a standard sound source that is one of the top ten in cream audience recording. However, this time, the sound source uploaded by JEMS was a completely undisclosed separate master, and it was surprising because the sound quality was higher than that of the existing board. You can tell that you were another master by listening to the first song, Tales of Brave Ulysses. There is no sound fluctuation in the intro that occurred in the already-released board, and there is no big whistle of the audience that was in the intro of the already-released board. Still, a well-balanced cheer is heard. When I scrutinized each song, it was a take with the same playing time as the existing board. Therefore, a completely new master of the performance on the same day has been unearthed! The sound quality was even better than “Synergy”, and it was a monaural audience recording with a wide range and a good sound balance. Since it was a direct transfer from the master cassette tape, the release on the press CD was a natural consequence. We will deliver it to you as soon as possible!
Our engineer carefully checked this master sound source, and despite this age, there was no slight deviation in the pitch of the tape, so in our shop we only mastered by raising the sound pressure a little. Many of you may have an existing version, but this version is a revolutionary new master sound source that rewrites the history of Cream and Waltham, so it is a work worth adding to the collection with the best sound quality. If I wanted to do a cut-out performance here, I wouldn’t have had any fame for Cream, but when I listened to the performance contained in the main board, the performance of Cream was amazing despite the extreme fatigue! Here, the numbers from the new album “DISRAELI GEARS” immediately after the release are shown at the beginning instead of business cards. And Sunshine of Your Love is a studio version of about 4 minutes, but here it is an enthusiastic performance of over 10 minutes. クリームのウォルサム、ブランディス・ユニバーシティでの公演日と言えば、1967年9月9日が定説でしたが、このたびあのJEMSによって、この公演の当時の録音者のマスターカセットからダイレクトにトランスファーしたバージョンがDimeにアップロードされました。それによれば、公演日は1968年3月23日であったことが新たな事実として提示されたほか、過去の既発盤すべてとまったく異なる別マスターだったことが判明しました！これまではこの音源を収録したブートレッグとしては、2007年にScorpioからリリースされた「Synergy」が最も高音質とされ、アベレージ以上の聴きやすいモノラル・オーディエンス録音の完全収録版としてマニアには評価を受けてきました。55年も前の録音ですから、現代のドンピカの録音クオリティは望むべくもないものの、クリームのオーディエンス録音では十指に入る定番音源として定着していたものです。ところが今回、JEMSがアップした音源は、完全未公開の別マスターであった上に、既発盤を上回る高音質だったから驚きです。別マスターだったという根拠は、1曲目のTales of Brave Ulyssesを聴けば判ります。既発盤で発生していたイントロでの音揺れは一切なし、さらに既発盤のイントロに入っていたオーディエンスの大きな口笛が一切入っていません。それでいて、バランスの良い歓声が聞かれるのです。各曲を精査してみたところ、既発盤と同じ演奏時間のテイクでした。従って、同日公演のまったく新しいマスターが発掘されたということになります！音質の良さは「Synergy」をさらに上回るもので、拡がりがあり、サウンドバランスも良好なモノラル・オーディエンス録音でした。そのマスターカセットテープからのダイレクト・トランスファーというだけあって、プレスCDでのリリースは当然の帰結でした。それを皆様に逸早くお届け致します！
当店のエンジニアがこのマスター音源を丹念にチェックしましたところ、この経年にもかかわらず、テープのピッチにはいささかの狂いもなかったため、当店では音圧を少し上げたのみのマスタリングに留めています。既発盤をお持ちの方も多いと思いますが、本盤はクリーム、ウォルサムの歴史を塗り替える画期的なニューマスター音源だけに、最良の音質でコレクションに加えていただく価値のある一作に違いありません。

これをご覧いただくと、この時代には当たり前だったとは言え、イギリス国内、ドイツ、北欧、そしてアメリカをまったく休みを取らず駆け抜けた、驚くべき過密スケジュールだったことが分かります。それでもクリームの3人は野望に燃えていた。イギリス国内のクラブを回りながら、プロモーションのためのテレビ＆ラジオ出演。そんな下積みから、ようやく世界最大のマーケット、アメリカへ。彼らの若さとスピリットが遂には全米の音楽ファンを圧倒し、惹きつけたのでした。ビートルズが「SGT.PEPPERS」、ローリング・ストーンズが「SATANIC MAJESTIES」をリリースしたサイケデリック時代の幕開け。その時期に、当時は誰も実践していなかった大音量でのブルースの拡大解釈パフォーマンス、スタジオバージョンでは数分の楽曲を10分に膨らませるインプロヴィゼーションの確立、それを可能にした3人の卓越したテクニック。初めてのツアーにしてクリームは、その名を全米に轟かせたのでした。後のレッド・ツェッペリンに繋がっていく「ロック」という音楽を変革し、形作ったクリーム。それを証明する第2回アメリカン・ツアーの中盤に当たったウォルサム公演。ここにはクリームの真実の一片が収められていると言ってもいいでしょう。
【ネガティブなアクシデントに見舞われた公演をポジティブに変えた一夜】
今回、JEMSはこのマスターカセットを入手した経緯に絡み、当時の状況を詳しく表記していました。それによると、当日ウォルサム入りする3人の乗った飛行機が嵐のため、到着が大幅に遅れたそうで、夜8時半開演の予定が夜中の2時半になったとのこと。つまりオーディエンスは会場で6時間も待たされたということです。オーディエンスの忍耐力も凄いですが、普通なら公演中止にするところ、くたくたになって乗り込んできたクリームの3人のバイタリティも凄い。ここで手抜き演奏でもしようものなら、クリームの名声も何もなかったところですが、本盤に収められた演奏を聴いていただくと、極限の疲労状態にもかかわらず、クリームの演奏は凄かった！ここではリリース直後のニューアルバム「DISRAELI GEARS」からのナンバーを名刺代わりに冒頭で2曲披露しています。ワウ踏みまくりのTales of Brave Ulyssesにはオーディエンスも度肝を抜かれたことでしょう。そしてSunshine of Your Loveはスタジオ・バージョンが4分余りのところ、ここでは10分を越える熱演。続くN.S.U.では、スタジオ・バージョンが僅か3分余りだったものが、19分を越える怒涛の演奏となっています。これがライブでのクリームの実体でした。注目は後半で目一杯ドラムソロを披露するジンジャー・ベイカーが、早くもこの曲でドラムソロを披露して喝采を浴びていることです。まったく出し惜しみのない、「やれるだけやってやる」というこの姿勢。さらに、その次のアルバム「WHEELS OF FIRE」に収録されることになるSittin’ On Top of the Worldを逸早くプレイしています。最大のマーケット、アメリカを意識してどうしてもこうした新曲を披露したかったのでしょう。後半は3人それぞれのテクニシャンぶりが証明されるフィーチャリングナンバー三連発。こんな演奏、誰も聴いたことなかったはずです。現代の今、もしこの公演を目にしたとしても、我々はビビッてしまうと思います。それくらい凄い！本盤にクリームの凄さは完全パックされています。過去に同日の音源はリリースされていますが、本邦初登場のマスターカセットからのアップグレードバージョンを収録したのが本盤です。本盤で「クリーム」を再認識していただければと思います。お早めのオーダーをお待ちしております。
