Christine McVie sadly passed away last month. After joining Fleetwood Mac, there was a feeling that she was far from solo activities partly because the band was very successful, but in the 1980s, when Mac was out of action, she changed her name. It is undeniable that the fact that he released an album bearing the title has been almost forgotten.
In addition, the album released in 1984 included not only allies such as Mick Fleetwood and Lindsey Buckingham, but also friends from the 60s such as Clapton and Steve Winwood. And the fact that each album and single was a hit has now been forgotten.
In the midst of all this, most people probably don’t remember that they even made a live video to push the album “CHRISTINE McVIE” strongly.

“THE VIDEO ALBUM”, the video released under the title of the 80’s VHS era, was released overseas only and the LD was released at the same time. Of course, it has not been made into a DVD, so it is a valuable live video that is worth releasing, but the live video that became the basis of the software was released on YouTube more than 10 years ago.
In the released “THE VIDEO ALBUM”, two songs that were single cut from the previous album were replaced with the music video version, but here, those two songs are also seen in the live version of the day. It says.
The ultimate is that the image quality is better than the software released at that time. From this, there is no doubt that it is a live video that was the original material of “THE VIDEO ALBUM”.

The backing band is made up of studio musicians who participated in the album, but among them, the drums are played by Steve Ferrone, who is still slender and youthful.
However, since it would be difficult to compose a live performance with only the songs from the album, from the middle stage, they gracefully performed songs from the Fleetwood Mac era in quick succession.
Just when I thought that the drummer’s back had changed to look like a fallen warrior, Mick Fleetwood, who had been given his seat by Ferrone, appeared. On the contrary, “World Turning” came out in front and showed familiar percussion. It will no longer be in a half-mac state.

And after the live, the two music videos that were released at the time were recorded again. It’s also heartwarming that even a big name like Christine worked hard to make videos to ride the wave of the MTV movement.
In addition, both the live performance and the MV have a truly nostalgic pop feeling unique to the early 80’s, and her sorrowful singing voice combined with it will make you realize that it is still an attractive solo performance. Her solo stage itself is now valuable, and it is a valuable live video of surprise!

先月惜しまれつつこの世を去ったクリスティン・マクヴィー。フリートウッド・マックに加入した後はバンドが大成功を収めたこともあってソロ活動と縁遠い感がありましたが、80年代に入ってマックが活動を停止していた時期に彼女が自身の名前を冠したアルバムをリリースしていたという事実はほとんど忘れ去られてしまった感が否めません。
おまけに84年にリリースされた同アルバムはミック・フリートウッドにリンジー・バッキンガムといった盟友だけでなく、クラプトンにスティーブ・ウィンウッドといった60年代からの友人たちも参加。そしてアルバムやシングルがそれぞれにヒットしていた事実も今となっては忘れ去られてしまった感があります。
そうした中でアルバム「CHRISTINE McVIE」を強力プッシュすべくライブビデオまで作られていたことになると、いよいよ記憶されていない方がほとんどではないでしょうか。

「THE VIDEO ALBUM」という、いかにも80年代のVHS時代らしいタイトルでリリースされたビデオは海外オンリーでLDも同時リリース。もちろん未DVD化な訳で、ただでさえリリースの価値のある貴重ライブ映像なのですが、今から10年以上前にソフトの元になったライブ映像がしれっとYouTube上で公開されていたのです。
リリースされた「THE VIDEO ALBUM」では先のアルバムからシングルカットされた二曲がミュージック・ビデオのバージョンに差し替えられていたのですが、ここでは何とそれら二曲も当日のライブバージョンで見られてしまうという。
極めつけは当時リリースされたソフト類よりも画質が良いのです。このことからも「THE VIDEO ALBUM」の元素材であったライブ映像であることは間違いないでしょう。

バックバンドはアルバムに参加したスタジオ・ミュージシャンでまとめられているのですが、中でもドラムはあのスティーブ・フェローンが務めており、まだほっそり若々しい姿が微笑ましい。
もっともアルバム収録曲だけでライブを構成することは苦しいということから、中盤からは潔くフリートウッド・マック時代の曲を立て続けに披露。
ここでドラマーの後ろ姿が落ち武者風に変わったかと思いきや、フェローンから席を譲られたミック・フリートウッドが登場。それどころか「World Turning」では前に出てきておなじみのパーカッションを披露。もはやハーフ・マック状態と化してしまいます。

そしてライブ後には改めて当時リリースされたミュージック・ビデオ二曲を収録。クリスティンほどの大御所でもMTVムーブメントの波に乗るべく頑張ってビデオを作っていたことがこれまた微笑ましい。
それにライブ、MVどちらも80年代前半ならではのポップ感が実に懐かしく、そこへ彼女の憂いのある歌声が合わさって今なお魅力的なソロ・パフォーマンスであることを実感させてくれるでしょう。今となっては彼女のソロ・ステージ自体が貴重であり、なおかつ驚きの貴重ライブ映像です！
