Judas Priest / Legendary Japan Tour 1978 / 2CD / Zodiac Translated Text: Nagoyashi-Kokaido, Nagoya, Japan 3rd August 1978 & Festival Hall, Osaka, Japan 5th August 1978 Click Image To Enlarge   伝説のJUDAS PRIEST初来日から、西日本（名古屋・大阪）２公演の実録アルバムが登場です！　まだ本国ですら満足な成功を収めていなかった当時のPRIEST。それをいち早く発見して大熱狂で迎え入れたのは、他でもない日本。彼らのは初来日は６公演で、東京４回・名古屋１回・大阪１回でした。テレビ／ラジオ放送や流出サウンドボード、超高音質オーディエンスなど、さまざまなタイトルもリリースされているものの、そのほとんどが東京でのライヴ。かつては名古屋・大阪の既発もありましたが、今回登場した本作は、最近ネット上に登場したもので、既発よりも長くサウンドもアップグレードしていると話題になっている客録マスターなのです！ まず、ディスク１は「1978年８月３日名古屋市公会堂」。既発の時点で世界中のマニアから「エクセレント！」「サウンドボードじゃないか？」と言われてきましたが、本作のアップグレード・マスターは、そんな既発を軽く凌駕するダイレクトっぷり。凄まじいまでにビビッドなサウンドは、演奏の機微どころかメンバーの若々しい情熱にプラグを突っ込んで吸い出してしまったかのような眩しさです。 その素晴らしさは、再生ボタンを押した直後から炸裂。日本らしい整然とした拍手に導かれ、厳粛に鳴り響くムソルグスキーの「The Great Gates Of Kiev」から一転、激走する「Exciter」！　「Painkiller」よろしくドラムソロで始まるスタジオテイク、バンドでかき鳴らす再来日の「PRIEST IN THE EAST」もそれぞれに良いのですが、やはり静と動の落差が激しい初来日が一番ドラマティックでグッとくるオープニングです。その鮮やかさを、まるで昨日録ったような鮮度で聴かせてくれるマスター……なんと素晴らしい！　しかも、その鮮やかさは、テープが進むにつれて少しずつ増していく。「Diamonds And Rust」の後でロブが日本への感謝を込めて「アイステマスジャパン」と噛みしめるように語るMCもクリアに響き、「あんこーる！あんこーる！」とカナで叫ぶ日本人オーディエンスの熱狂も超リアル。「Starbreaker」でかかるヴォーカル・エフェクトまでしっかりと分かるほどです。「おぉ、凄い音だ」と感嘆する出だしもさることながら、その音に慣れることなくワクワク感が続くのです。 続くディスク２は「８月５日大阪フェスティバルホール」。ジャパンツアーの最終日であり、「STAINED CLASS」ツアーの最終日でもあります。この初来日ツアーは、12日間で６公演とわりと余裕があり、メンバーも若さはち切れんばかり。しかも、前日は丸１日オフも挟んでいますから、最終公演であってもまったくの疲れゼロで日本のオーディエンスに慣れてきた充実感だけが上乗せされた全力パフォーマンスを繰り広げてくれるのです。 この日は「GENOCIDE & TYRANT（Shades 467）」のディスク２としてもCDRリリースされていますが、このマスターはそれとは異なり、ごく最近発掘されたもの。こちらも既発よりも４分以上長いアップグレード・マスターです。そして、そのサウンドはやはり素晴らしい。ビビッド極まりない名古屋に比べると、会場の残響も感じさせるマイルドさがありますが、それでもダイレクトは並ではない。むしろ、その優しさ、バランスの良さが非常に聴きやすく、ディスク１より好まれる方も多いかも知れません。 そのパフォーマンスは、初来日No.1と言ってもいいかもしれないほど、素晴らしい。この日も「Diamonds And Rust」の後に「アイシテマスジャパン」のMCを入れますが、「今日はラストショーなんだ。月曜日にはイギリスに帰らないと……」とも語ります。その声には、あと数曲で初めての日本、初めての成功とも別れなくてはいけない名残惜しさがしみじみと溢れ出している。そんな気持ちを振り切るように叩きつける「Genocide」の格好良さ！　異国で味わった成功の喜びを刻むようなK.K.＆グレンのリフ、若々しいロブのヴォーカリゼイション。そして、現在では考えられないほど豊かなラインを繰り出すイアンに、歴代No.1とも囁かれるレス・ビンクスの手数足数ドラミング……中間にジャムを挟んだ、この14分に及ぶ大熱演は凄すぎる!! JUDAS PRIESTに初めて「成功」の２文字を味わわせたのは、間違いなく日本でした。だからこそ、再来日で「UNLEASHED IN THE EAST」を作ろうと思い立たせ、そしてかの名ライヴ盤は、彼らに本国で初めての成功をもたらした。その後も、何十年と続く相思相愛の、その出会い。本作は、その喜び溢れたドキュメント・アルバムでもあるのです。 再来日の「UNLEASHED ...
