Dedicated to the late Peter Bardens, “A NOD AND A WINK” is still the final work of CAMEL. A masterpiece live album that has represented the Fairwell Tour that took place after its release has been upgraded.
This work was recorded at “June 30, 2003 Alexandria Performance”. It is the superb audience recording. “A NOD AND A WINK” was released in 2002, but the farewell tour started in 2003. The pattern is also left as the official video “THE OPENING FAREWELL”, so let’s also check the position from the schedule at that time.

・ June 26-30: North America (4 performances) ← ★ Coco ★
《Tom Brislin → Ton Scherpenzel change》
・ October 8-26: Europe (17 performances)
・ October 27-29: UK (3 performances)

This is CAMEL in 2003. The official “THE OPENING FAREWELL” was the first day of the “North America” tour, but the performance of this work in Alexandria was the last day four days later. Initially, the North American tour was scheduled to continue, but was canceled due to Dennis Clement’s private circumstances. After this, it was disbanded for 10 years, but the US show has not been realized since then, and as a result, this work is their last North American concert.
The sound of this work, which recorded such a monumental stage, is also special. Anyway, close contact with zero sense of distance. The wick is so on that you don’t feel the presence of the atmosphere, and along with that, ultra-clear details are poured directly into your ears. Since that time, it has been highly acclaimed as “excellent sound board level” and “official class”, but it has not changed at all in light of modern standards 17 years later, and I reminded myself “Where is this audience !?” It’s a superb sound that makes you want to be ridiculous.
Moreover, this work updates the highest peak of such a transcendental master. As a matter of fact, several titles have appeared because of the sound that is so wonderful, but the existing group so far has some scratches (albeit very fine). The most prominent one was the last “Never Let Go”, which had momentary blurring and noise. However, this work is the best master without such scratches. It is a live album that allows you to seamlessly enjoy the sound that has been called “the highest sound quality in CAMEL history”.
The supreme sound is drawn in a full show that is the culmination of the dissolution. As mentioned above, it’s only four days after “THE OPENING FAREWELL”, but the set is slightly different. Let’s organize by comparing here.

● Early-Middle (11 songs)
・ MIRAGE: Lady Fantasy
・ THE SNOW GOOSE: Rhayader / Rhayader Goes to Town
・ MOONMADNESS: Lunar Sea / Another Night / Spirit of the Water
・ RAIN DANCES: Unevensong
・ BREATHLESS: Echoes
・ I CAN SEE YOUR HOUSE FROM HERE: Hymn to Her / Ice
・ NUDE: Drafted
● Final stage (5 songs)
・ CAMEL: Arubaluba (★) / Never Let Go (★)
・ DUST AND DREAMS: Mother Road
・ A NOD AND A WINK: Fox Hill (★) / For Today
* Note: The “★” mark is a song that cannot be heard even in the official work “THE OPENING FAREWELL”.

… And it looks like this. With a focus on the golden 70’s, a wide selection from the debut work “CAMEL” to the final work “A NOD AND A WINK”. However, it is not completely random, but is roughly divided into two. Until the middle of the show, it has been organized since the golden age from “MIRAGE” to “NUDE”, but the image is renewed in the final 5 songs. The debut work and recent works “DUST AND DREAMS” and “A NOD AND A WINK” are highlights that fly to the extremes of the times. And it is this final stage that is different from the official work “THE OPENING FAREWELL”. The selections such as the two debut songs and the new song “Fox Hill” can only be enjoyed in this work.
Of course, the performance of spinning such a set is the white eyebrows. Tom Brislin, who is familiar with YES’s “SYMPHONIC TOUR” and RENAISSANCE’s performance in Japan, is participating in the keyboard, and you can listen to the harmony with Latimer everywhere. And it is the end of the series of highlights. “Mother Road” with a wonderful crisp guitar, “For Today” with a big song over 10 minutes, “Never Let Go” with a big circle that calls for cracking cheers, etc. Before “For Today,” Latimer mentions the 9/11 terrorist attacks (which were still vivid at the time) and introduces the song “Songs about us living in the present age.” And after the performance, the mood that the audience who listened silently to the moving performance explodes at once is moving.

With this show, activities in North America ended, and CAMEL fell asleep for 10 years after the tour. Of course, the subsequent resurrection drama is also new to my memory, but there is no doubt that 2003 was a big milestone. This work is a masterpiece of a live album that allows you to witness such times and places with superb sound. The highest peak in history of super-famous recording that has been touted as a miracle since that time. Please fully enjoy the “extreme of beautiful sound”.

MIRAGE:Lady Fantasy
・THE SNOW GOOSE:Rhayader/Rhayader Goes to Town
・MOONMADNESS:Lunar Sea/Another Night/Spirit of the Water
・RAIN DANCES:Unevensong
・BREATHLESS:Echoes
・I CAN SEE YOUR HOUSE FROM HERE:Hymn to Her/Ice
・NUDE:Drafted
・CAMEL:Arubaluba(★)/Never Let Go(★)
・DUST AND DREAMS:Mother Road
・A NOD AND A WINK:Fox Hill(★)/For Today

デビュー作と近年作『DUST AND DREAMS』『A NOD AND A WINK』という、時代を両極端に飛ぶハイライトとなっています。
