From the North American tour which was held after the release of the 1979 album “One Of A Kind”, Providence performance was recorded. Audience sound source which is widely distributed among traders is used. As Allan Holdsworth withdrew after the UK tour took place in May just before this North American tour, it is composed of John Clark who joined as a successor. Although John Clark’s head falls for Holdsworth complete copy, it will be more literally “substitute” than it is neither more nor less. Therefore it is natural that popularity will rise to the sound source when Holdsworth enrolled on popularity. However, as well as the later released ‘The Bruford Tapes’, a wonderful performance using advanced techniques will be developed. Because Bruford has been walking over the band called Yes or King Crimson, this band is often enclosed in a genre called “Progressive”, but in reality it can be said that it is a honorable mention of the crossover that draws on the flow of Canterbury.

1979年7～8月にかけて行われた北米ツアーより、7月17日プロヴィデンス公演を高音質オーディエンス録音で収録！！アンサンブルの要となる、ブラッ フォード、ジェフ・バーリンのアグレッシヴなプレイを見事に捉えており、分離感の素晴らしいエッジの効いたサウンドは、まさにテクニカルなBRUFORD をたっぷりと堪能できるこれ以上はない理想的なサウンドになっています！1978年10月9、10日に行われたコネチカット州ウェストへブンのハードロッ ク・カフェ公演を最後にUKを脱退したブラッフォードとホールズワースが、11月にデイヴ・スチュワートとジェフ・バーリンを加えて結成した BRUFORD（1979年1～2月にバンドとしては初のアルバムとなる「One Of A Kind」をロンドンのトライデント・スタジオでレコーディング、翌月3月7日にブラッフォードのお披露目となるライヴをオックスフォードのポリテクニッ クで行いました）ですが、ホールズワースは、5月5日マンチェスターから5月20日フェニックスシアターでの公演までわずか12公演のみでバンドを突如脱 退している為、今回のプロヴィデンス公演はBill Bruford、Dave Stewart、Jeff Berlin、John Clarkでのラインアップとなります。 このジョン・クラーク加入の新生BRUFORDですが、攻撃的な変拍子、音の密度やスピードだけではない、さらに進化したデリケートなジャズ・アンサンブ ルが展開され、全12トラック全てが聴きどころとなっています。特にBack To The Beginningを挿入した名作Fainting In Coilsは、クールでレガートなインター・プレイの数々とシャープなリズムとの鮮やかな対比が味わえる必聴テイクとなっています！まさにそれぞれが凄ま じく磨き尽くされた技巧を臆面もなく放つ無敵のブラッフォードの驚異的なパフォーマンスを、理想的なサウンドでパッケージしたファン必携のアイテムが、 Gravy Trainよりリリース決定です！！

1979年のアルバム『One Of A Kind』リリース後に行われた北米ツアーから、Providence公演を収録。トレーダー間に広く流通しているオーディエンス音源が使用されている。 この北米ツアー直前の5月に行われた英国ツアー後にAllan Holdsworthが脱退したため、その後任として加入したJohn Clarkを含む編成となっている。John ClarkのHoldsworth完全コピーぶりには頭が下がるものの、それ以上でも以下でもなく文字通りの「代役」ということになろう。従って、人気度 の上でHoldsworth在籍時の音源に軍配が上がるのは当然のことだ。とは言え、後にリリースされた『The Bruford Tapes』同様に高度なテクニックを駆使した素晴らしい演奏が展開される。BrufordがYesやKing Crimsonというバンドを渡り歩いてきたが故に、このバンドも「Progressive」というジャンルで括られることが多いが、実際は Canterburyの流れを汲むクロスオーバーの佳作であると言える。
