天才トム・ショルツ率いる米ハードロック・バンド「ボストン」の1979年4月の初来日以来、35年ぶりとなる２度目の来日公演。その初日、10月2日の武道館公演を２種のオリジナル極上音源でそれぞれ完全収録。ディスク１＆２には、録音者から譲り受けたオリジナルマスターからの超高音質オーディエンス録音を、ディスク３＆４にはもう一人のギタリスト、ゲイリー・ピールのオリジナル・イヤモニ音源を収録しています。オーディエンス録音は今年のマイケル・シェンカー、TOTO、ロバート・プラント公演の高音質音源でお馴染みのテーパーによるもの。座席位置はアリーナＡ8ブロック。適度なダイレクト感と抜群の音の定位と安定感、そしてスケール感に満ちた、完成度の高い最高レベルのオーディエンス録音。端正で落ちついたサウンドは熱狂に沸き返る「ボストン35年目の武道館帰還」を克明に再現してくれます。まさにクリアー＆タイト。周囲に煩い観客もおらず、理想的な音ドキュメントを楽しむことができます。注目のイヤモニ音源はゲイリーが使用している非圧縮IEM音源。ゆえにPAアウトの音像とは異なる独特のバランスのライン録音でショウを楽しめます。ノイズは一切なし。トムよりもゲイリーのギターが近く、トミーのボーカルが若干小さめという独特の音バランスですが、ここでしか聴けないステレオ・サウンドボード然とした超高音質マスターは、日本のファンのみならず、世界中のボストン・ファンを大いに魅了することでしょう。コーラスバランスがおかしかったりする部分もありますが、逆にインストパートの迫力は凄まじく、各所で圧巻の音像体験を楽しむことができます。後半のWalk On MedleyからForeplayでのトムのオルガンソロがこれまた凄まじいライン録音で収録されており、正直、これを聴くだけでも本盤を入手する価値ありと思ってしまう程の傑作音源と言えます。

ステージにはトム・シュルツ開発のRockmanのエフェクター＆アンプが群をなして並び、そのスピーカーから飛び出す特有な幻想音と美麗なメロディー＆ハーモニー。それらを包み込み放出するボストン幻想サウンドが会場いっぱいに炸裂する様は圧巻の一言！オープニングはトム一人ステージでスポットを浴びてのギターソロ。何度聞いてもトムのギタースクラッチのブキューンと唸る爆音には痺れます。その炸裂音とともに始まる定番ロックンロールバンドで会場は歓喜の渦に。半信半疑だったリードボーカルのトミー・デカーロはブラッド・デルプに劣らず素晴らしい歌声を披露してくれました。トミーのVoのほうが優しさと丁寧さを感じさせてくれたのではないでしょうか？（前職はホームデポのクレジットマネージャーで、自身がカラオケに合わせて歌ったボストンの曲をMySpaceで公開したところ、トム・ショルツに見出され、2008年夏のツアーよりリードボーカルとして参加）。Smokin’のキーボードソロではオルガンからスモークが飛び出し視覚的にも盛り上げます。尚、MCで笑い声が聞こえるのはステージ上部後方のスクリーンにトムの喋る日本語訳が映し出された為です。世界各国共通のMCなんでしょう（笑）。曲中のステージ後方のスクリーンの映像は宇宙、空、平原、海を飛行する映像インスト曲「Last Day Of School」は「人生でとても好きだった（楽しかった）日々のことを曲にした」とMC。Cool the Enginesでは後方の二人、トレイシー・フェリーとキンバリー・ダームが揃って回転を決めると、前方のトム・ショルツとゲイリー・ピールは左右のお立ち台に乗るという演出。その後、二人でポーズを決めながらギターを弾いて観客を魅了します。Surrender To Meでは女性キンバリー・ダームがリードヴォーカルで花を添えます。そのままDon’t look Backで最高潮へ。「この会場にいるAmandaという名の女性に捧げます」って言いますけど、ここ日本ではいませんよね（苦笑）。シボーン・マグナス（米オーディション番組「アメリカン・アイドル」より選出）はハイノート担当として「More Than A Feeling」から参加。Walk Onではそのゲスト、シボーン・マグナスが素晴らしいハイトーンで歌い上げます。バンドアンサンブル、コーラス等、美しいメロディー＆ハーモニーを操るBOSTON幻想SOUNDは健在で最高のコンサートでした。メンバー紹介はすべてゲイリー・ピールによってコールされ、トムのメンバー紹介では「リード・ギター、キーボード、プロデューサー、エンジニア、そして全ての曲を書いたTom Scholz」とスクリーンに日本訳が映し出されたのが印象的でした。

35年ぶりに武道館に帰還したボストンの記念すべき夜を最高レベルのオーディエンスと、公式級サウンドで楽しめるイヤモニで、それぞれドキュメントしたファン絶対必聴盤。４枚組プレスCDでZIONレーベルよりリリース決定です。
