今回「THE BEST SHOW」こと2001年の大阪初日を録音してくれたテーパーですが、翌日の大阪厚生年金二日目のステージも録音してくれています。これがまた素晴らしいクオリティのオーディエンス録音。最初は前日とのカップリングでボリューム感のあるプレスCDリリースも検討したほどなのです。しかしマニアの方ならば覚えてられたかもしれません、絶賛の嵐だった大阪初日と比べて、二日目の方はどうにもインパクトが薄い…むしろ2001年来日公演で最高の名演と呼ばれた初日だけをフィーチャーする形でプレスCDにてリリースすべきだという形が今回のリリースとなったのです。
その点、大阪二日目は絵に書いたようにアベレージなライブだったのでしょうか？いや、誓って演奏の出来が悪いというのではございません。そうでなくて。めくるめく名曲の嵐となった前日と比べ、あまりに地味な選曲がライブ前半に集中してしまったことが、この日の印象の悪さに直接つながってしまった。このことは当時から言われていた事だったのですが、それにしても前日から一転しておとなしめなライブ展開。現在のディランがみせるセットリスト固定ライブならではの安定のクオリティの高さと違い、この頃のディラン・ライブではすごくいい夜の次で、全体の雰囲気がガクンと落ちる様な日もあったのです。それが正に大阪二日目。しかしディランのボルテージ自体が下がっていないことは、アツいハーモニカ吹きまくり展開が冴えわたる「Tangled Up In Blue」が証明していますし、この高音質音源で聴いていただければ瞬時に理解してもらえることでしょう。やはり2001年来日公演の演奏はレベルが高い！
そしてこちらの音源もトレーダー間に一切出回っていなかったオーディエンス録音というだけでなく、やはり音質そのものが素晴らしい。前日と同じように、2001年当時に出回っていたCD-Rタイトルは演奏全体の音圧と引き換えにディランの声の存在感を薄めてしまうかのようなバランスでしたが、ここでもディランの声がオンなバランスが魅力的。この状態で聴けば、なおさらこの日のディラン以下、全員のプレイ・クオリティ自体は十分に高かったことが再確認できるでしょう。ただ、いかんせん選曲が地味だったのです。そんなディランらしいライブのコントラストが楽しめる。それでいてこれまで出回っていなかった独自音源が初回納品分オンリーのボーナスディスクとして付いてきてしまうとは…何とも贅沢な。是非とも初回納品分でこの独自入手の貴重音源をゲットしてください！
