On the other hand, the official “Before the Flood” was recorded at the end of the tour, and although it contained the completed performance of Dylan and the band, it was far from the aggressive attitude such as the change of the set list and repertoire that was in the first half of the tour. fact. And it is also true that Dylan’s powerful songs, which became the trademark of this tour, have reached the level of “exaggeration”, and it is undeniable that it sometimes sounded humorous.
And the band’s performance had completely faded from its homely atmosphere by the time of “Before the Flood”, which was also the one in the first half of the tour that sounded like them from the stage. ..

The record of the first half of the tour, which gave off an atmosphere different from the “Great Resurrection” from the stage in every sense, was the time that enthusiasts wanted to hear the most, but for the reason above, they were not blessed with a good sound source. In addition, the mild sound quality and the analog feeling that makes you want to describe it as an “ideal vintage audience” are also wonderful. Of course, there were many voices of re-release, but seven years after that release, the new version was finally decided to be released on a limited press CD.

Although this sound source was a stereo audience recording boasting very good sound quality, the sound image of the performance was balanced to the left. Therefore, when the “HOLLYWOOD SPORTATORIUM 1974” was released (hereinafter referred to as the “already released board”), I tried to correct the localization, but I could not fix it due to the limit of technology at that time. This time, thanks to the passage of 7 years, this problem has been completely adjusted. The performance and Dylan’s singing voice firmly settled in the center while keeping that expansive sound image. As a process that was not available at the time of release in 2014, the crackling noise that tends to occur in analog and vintage sound sources has been thoroughly removed. Of course, these are weak, but it is true that there were some points that I was worried about when listening with headphones. And the pitch is adjusted a little, not just a recurrence but a careful restoration going back to the original sound source.
The same sound source was re-seeded on the net yesterday for the first time in a long time, but while it was a version in which the part of The Band was cut, this is a complete that includes their set properly.

And in this release, even the bonus track has been completely replaced. Last time, I documented the before and after of “Wedding Song” which was a rare repertoire of “Tour 74” with a bonus, but this time it will be performed at the opening from Chicago Stadium on January 3rd, the first day of the tour. Includes the unreleased song “Hero Blues” that freezes the audience (laughs) and “Tough Mama” that was recorded in the album “PLANET WAVES” but was not played before the album was released.
Both are B-class monaural audiences and have already been recorded in the compilation “PHANTOMS OF MY YOUTH” of “Tour 74”, but they are much easier to hear than those released in the cassette trade era, and the pitch is accurate. Recording.
Another bonus is the extremely rare repertoire played in Memphis four days after the Hollywood Sportatorium. Dylan’s “Fourth Time Around” was also recorded in “PHANTOMS OF MY YOUTH”, but it was also recorded at an accurate pitch and in a much clearer state.
More notable is the cover “Back To Memphis” by Chuck Berry, which The Band performed specially on this day only because it was Memphis. In contrast to Dylan, they had a fixed repertoire on this tour, so this performance is extremely valuable, and I think most enthusiasts didn’t know the fact that they were playing only on this day.
In this way, the long-awaited new version of the enthusiast who showed a thorough commitment to bonuses as well as the restoration of the main part. ボブ・ディランがザ・バンドを従えて行った通称「ツアー74」は彼の久々のライブツアーという事から全米で社会現象的な盛り上がりを見せた結果、オーディエンス録音で音質の優れた音源が極端に少ないという現象が見受けられます。要はテーパーが録音に際して良好なポジションを確保することが極めって困難だったということ。
一方でオフィシャル「偉大なる復活」はツアー終盤の録音であり、ディランとバンドのパフォーマンス完成形を収めてはいたものの、ツアー前半にあったセットリストやレパートリーの変化といった攻めの姿勢からはかけ離れていたのも事実。そしてこのツアーのトレードマークとなったディランの力んだ歌いっぷりが「大げさ」の域にまで達してしまっていたのも事実であり、時としてそれが滑稽に聞こえた感が否めません。
そしてザ・バンドの演奏は持ち前のアットホームな雰囲気が「偉大なる復活」の頃にはすっかり薄れてしまっており、これもまたツアー前半の方が彼ららしいサウンドをステージから鳴らしていたものでした。

あらゆる意味で「偉大なる復活」とは違った雰囲気をステージから放っていたツアー前半の記録はマニアにとってもっとも聞き込みたい時期でありながら、それでいて先の理由から良質な音源に恵まれなかった。そんなマニアの留飲を下げるべくリリースされた名盤が現在もベストセラー続行中である「PHILADELPHIA 1974 1ST SHOW」でしょう。
同タイトルがツアー最初期かつ攻めの姿勢に富んだ時期を捉えていたのですが、日程を消化して演奏が盤石の域へと到達しつつあり、それでもなお攻めの姿勢を残していたという絶妙な時期における別格の良質音源としてリリースされた名盤が「HOLLYWOOD SPORTATORIUM 1974」。
先の理由から何かと良質なオーディエンス録音に恵まれないツアーの中にあって、正に別格とも言えるクオリティを誇った音源を収録してツアー40周年であった2014年にリリースされた後に完売となってしまった名盤です。

はっきり言ってツアーの中でもベスト3に入る高音質を誇るレベル。広がりのあるステレオである上に演奏の音像やディランの歌声も驚くほどオン。もちろん「まるでサウンドボード」と形容されるような域ではないのですが、それでも「ツアー74」の前半ステージがこれほどまでのクオリティで捉えられていたということは驚きを禁じえません。
おまけにマイルドな音質、これぞ「理想的なビンテージ・オーディエンス」と形容したくなるアナログ感がもたらす聞き心地も見事なもの。当然ながら再リリースの声が多く寄せられていたのですが、あのリリースから7年の歳月を経て遂にニューバージョンが限定プレスCDにてリリースが決定しました。

この音源、非常に良好な音質を誇るステレオ・オーディエンス録音であったものの、演奏の音像が左に寄ったバランスであった。そこで「HOLLYWOOD SPORTATORIUM 1974」のリリース（以降、既発盤と称します）時にも定位の修正を試みたものの、当時のテクノロジーの限界から直し切れていなかった。今回は7年の歳月を経過したおかげでこの問題を完全にアジャスト。あの広がりのある音像はそのままに演奏やディランの歌声がしっかりセンターにどっしり構えてくれたのです。7年前のリリースをお持ちの方は是非ともヘッドフォンにてこの違いを聞き比べていただきたい。
それ以上に2014年のリリース時になかった処理としては、アナログ・ビンテージ音源にありがちなパチパチと入るノイズを徹底的に削除。もちろんこれらは微弱なものですが、ヘッドフォンで聞くと気になる個所があったのは事実。そしてピッチも若干ながらアジャストするなど、単なる再発ではなく元音源に遡っての入念なレストアを敢行。
ちょうど昨日ネット上で同じ音源が久しぶりにリシードされましたが、そこではザ・バンドのパートがカットされたバージョンだったのに対し、こちらはちゃんと彼らのセットも入ったコンプリートです。

そして今回のリリースではボーナストラックまで完全に入れ替え。前回は「ツアー74」のレア・レパートリーであった「Wedding Song」のビフォー＆アフターをボーナスにてドキュメントしていましたが、今回はツアー初日の1月3日のシカゴ・スタジアムからオープニングに演奏されてオーディエンスをフリーズさせた（笑）未発表曲「Hero Blues」とアルバム「PLANET WAVES」収録曲でありながらアルバムのリリース前に演奏されなくなってしまった「Tough Mama」を収録。
どちらもB級モノラル・オーディエンスで「ツアー74」のコンピレーション「PHANTOMS OF MY YOUTH」などに収録済な音源ですが、カセット・トレードの時代にリリースされたそれよりはずっと聞きやすく、なおかつピッチも正確に収録。
もう一つのボーナスはハリウッド・スポータトリアムから四日後のメンフィスで演奏された激レア・レパートリーを収録。ディランの「Fourth Time Around」はこれまた「PHANTOMS OF MY YOUTH」に収録済みでしたが、こちらも正確なピッチかつはるかにクリアーな状態にて収録。
それ以上に特筆すべきはメンフィスということでこの日に限ってザ・バンドが特別に演奏したチャック・ベリーのカバー「Back To Memphis」。ディランとは対照的に彼らはこのツアーではほとんどレパートリー固定だっただけに、この演奏は極めて貴重ですし、この日だけ演奏していた事実を知らなかったマニアが大半なのではないかと。
こうして本編のレストアはもちろん、今回はボーナスにも徹底的なこだわりをみせたマニア待望のニューバージョン。メインのハリウッド・スポータトリアムでも「Leopard-Skin Pill-Box Hat」というたった三回しか披露されなかったレア・レパートリーが披露されており、しかも高音質で聞けるという魅力。またショー開演前には伝説のプロモーター、ビル・グレアムが直々にステージに上がって「ディランは弾き語りも披露してくれるから、彼の気が散るようなことはしないでね」と語り掛ける場面まで捉えた「ツアー74」最高のオーディエンス・ドキュメント・アルバム！
