To commemorate the release of Bob Dylan’s 1978 World Tour for the first time in a while this week, we have also prepared a rare sound source from the same tour on the free gift CD-R. The limited press CD will be released in Paris in July, so the gift chosen was Baton Rouge on November 29th from the autumn US tour.
This is the same tour, the last performance in the United States in November. It is a monaural but very good sound quality audience recording, and the sound image is not in the range of Paris this time (Paris is too close), but the recording state with a moderate sense of distance is rather unique and easy to hear. It has both.
If it becomes such an easy-to-listen sound source, it has a track record of being released in the past, and when the overseas-made CD-R “LEGAL MIND IN LOUISIANA” appeared, it was evaluated as a “CD-R but good board” by enthusiasts. About. However, the release itself was about 15 years ago, and it was based on a copy of unknown gene at that time, and in addition, it seems to be made overseas and the pitch is out of order, and even if you have it, can you play it now? There is also the question of how.
In that respect, the sound quality of this gift, which was easy to hear by recording from the master cassette, has been further improved. Not only that, but the problem that the pitch is low only in the first half of the live, which was the biggest problem in this sound source, is also firmly adjusted.

Although it was a well-established sound source among enthusiasts, what surprised me most was the terrible sound change three months after Paris in July (counted by subtracting it because the tour was off in August).
The entertainer-like atmosphere that was released at that time disappeared, and instead a hard and rock sound was rushing in. “Masters Of War”, which was already a hard arrangement, has a metallic atmosphere, and even “Like A Rolling Stone” is a rock arrangement where Billy Cross plays a guitar solo and then the performance starts. evolution.
The hard schedule of the United States started in September, and the fact that Dylan’s voice is singing while being rough (sometimes as if screaming) has also strengthened the rock color, and it is being played at this time. The unreleased song “Am I Your Step child?” Is also powerful.
However, if you think that the rock color will become stronger unilaterally, it is Dylan that the wholesaler does not wholesale. “Mr. Tambourine Man”, which was played very lightly and poply in Paris, suddenly changed to a gospel-like arrangement with a slow tempo.
The aggressive attitude of playing songs that are not fast-paced, such as “Tangled Up In Blue,” which is sung in the same slow gospel style, in quick succession even though it is in the early stages of the live, and the live composition at this time is simply It has the effect of not falling into the big development of just being hard.
Compared to Paris this time, you can enjoy the sound and the sudden change in singing style that makes you think “Is this the same tour?” A high-grade gift that can be lightly dismissed. Enjoy the 1978 Baton Rouge with an aggressive sound that has completely changed from Paris!
