From the 1982 tour of BLUE OYSTER CULT, the performance in Worcester, Massachusetts will be released here on September 24th with a newly excavated stereo sound board sound source! At the time of “FIRE OF UNKNOWN ORIGIN”, the band gradually changed due to member changes while announcing a masterpiece that remained in rock history and reaching the peak of the tour scale. With the finest sound that approaches the official, you can enjoy the live sound source for 67 minutes, the longest ever on the same day!

For the Blue Oyster Cult (B.O.C.), the period from the end of the 1970s to the beginning of the 1980s was a big turning point. The band’s manager and producer, Sandy Pearlman, left the production of the album and invited an outside producer to release “MIRRORS” and “CULTOSAURUS ERECTUS”, but the majorization of songs and sounds is “light” from conventional fans. ， The result was criticized as “I lost the band-ness”. There, Perlman learned from the sound of Black Sabbath, who succeeded in “HEAVEN AND HELL” at the same time, and made a splendid reversal in “FIRE OF UNKNOWN ORIGIN” in 1981 with Martin Birch. The film was ranked 24th on the US Billboard, 29th on the UK charts, and the single-cut “BURNIN’FOR YOU” became a hit in the top 40 in the US. In August, he also performed at the 2nd “Monsters of Rock” in Donnington, England.
Nevertheless, this 1981 is described as “1981 is a black year in the history of Blue Oyster Cult” by core overseas enthusiasts. The main reasons for this are changes in musicality and disagreements among members. The resulting withdrawal of Albert Bouchard (Dr). The band as well as the fans were shocked by the fact that the band’s first withdrawal was Albert, who made a great contribution to the performance and composition. The big change in exchange for commercial success is just light and shadow. It was a time when we could clearly hear the footsteps of the collapse creeping into success.

“EXTRA TERRESTRIAL LIVE” released in 1982 symbolized the new era that the band welcomed. This work is a ecdysis from the underground sound of the ’70s, and it is a metallic yet melodious sound that seems to be theirs in the’ 80s, reproducing not only the new songs of the time but also the representative songs. However, this work is a compilation of materials from February 1980 to December 1981, and the drum take was a mixture of Albert’s play and new member Rick Downey. Although it was enough to know the mood at that time, there was a part where it was difficult to recognize the high evaluation in terms of a sense of unity.
In 1982, it was included in this work that overseas enthusiasts are pushing the drum as a material that clears that “sense of unity” and allows you to enjoy the new era BOC live after joining Rick Downey with an official stereo sound board. The performance in Worcester, Massachusetts on September 24th. This sound source has appeared as part of the 3-disc compilation “SUNDBOARD COLLECTION” (Uxbridge 305) in the past, and has made domestic fans aware of its appeal.
This time, the sound source on the same day was made into a record with a new excavation provided by overseas enthusiasts and the longest new master ever. With a mix of superb clearness and a formal sense, a B.O.C. feast will be held for about 68 minutes until a take that was previously unheard of!

This live was broadcast on the music program “The Source” by the FM station “WAAF” of Massachusetts. Three songs such as “Dominance And Submission” that was played early on the day were not aired, so here we started with “This Ain’t The Summer Of Love”. This song, which was not recorded in the official live mentioned above, is a sudden listening place from the beginning. The thickness of the bottom that resonates with the heavy play of the members separated into the left and right channels makes you feel the difference between the existing and the master.
Following the hard “Hot Rails To Hell”, the new “Joan Crawford” has a vivid contrast between Alan Rainier’s flowing and dramatic piano and Eric Bloom’s wild song! Already released the style of a masterpiece, a performance that condensed the theatrical ’80s B.O.C. will be developed. Along with these new songs, the representative songs “Cities On Flame” and “(Don’t Fear) The Reaper” have obtained a luxurious sound that reflects the times. It will be a scene where you can really feel the band sound that the members change and change. From the middle to the second half, “Godzilla”, which includes solo parts of bass and drums, draws out the highlights of the live performance. The climax of “Born To Be Wild” has also shifted from a laser show in the latter half of the 1970s to a production that raises Harley to the stage. You might think that such a scene is only in the video, but even though it is only the sound, you can see the changing B.O.C. in this scene.
And the last is the biggest listening place of this work! The same day encore “Burnin’For You”, which was not recorded in the past sound sources such as “SUNDBOARD COLLECTION”, will appear for the first time here. The song, which entered the top 40 in the United States as a single, culminated in the excitement of the venue, ending the live with plenty of lingering sound.

“History of the Blue Oyster Cult is divided by official live works” … It is an expression used like a saying among fans and critics. To prove that word, B.O.C.’s official live shows each era of the band with a lot of individuality. However, the “FIRE OF UNKNOWN ORIGIN” tour, which was the turning point of the band, cannot be grasped in its true form unless you listen to the live after joining Rick (that is, only officially!). BLUE OYSTER CULTの1982年ツアーより、９月24日，マサチューセッツ州ウースター公演が、新発掘のステレオ・サウンドボード音源でここにリリース！　ロック史上に残る傑作を発表してツアーの規模も頂点に達しながら、メンバーチェンジに揺れ、バンドが次第に変化していった『FIRE OF UNKNOWN ORIGIN』当時。そのライヴをオフィシャルに迫る極上のサウンドで、同日音源過去最長の67分間にわたり満喫させます！

ブルー・オイスター・カルト（以下B.O.C.）にとって、’70年代末から’80年代序盤は大きな曲がり角の時代でした。バンドのマネージャー兼プロデューサーだったサンディ・パールマンがアルバムのプロデュースを離れ、外部プロデューサーを招いて『MIRRORS』や『CULTOSAURUS ERECTUS』をリリースしたものの、楽曲そしてサウンドのメジャー化は、従来のファンから「軽い」，「バンドらしさを無くした」として批判を浴びる結果になりました。そこでパールマンは、同時期に『HEAVEN AND HELL』で成功したブラック・サバスのサウンドに学び、マーティン・バーチを迎えた1981年の『FIRE OF UNKNOWN ORIGIN』で見事な逆転打を放ったのです。同作は米国ビルボードで24位にランクされ、英国チャートでも29位となったほか、シングルカットされた『BURNIN’ FOR YOU』が全米トップ40入りするヒットになりました。さらに８月には、イギリス・ドニントンで行われた第２回”モンスターズ・オブ・ロック”にも出演を果たしました。
にもかかわらず、この1981年はコアな海外マニアから”1981 is a black year in the history of Blue Oyster Cult”と表現されている。その大きな理由が、音楽性の変化とメンバー間の意見対立。その結果としてのアルバート・ブーチャード（Dr）の脱退。バンドで初めての脱退者が、演奏面と作曲面で大きな貢献をしていたアルバートだった事に、バンドはもちろんファンも大きなショックを受けました。商業的な成功と引き換えの大きな変化は、まさに光と影。成功へ忍び寄る崩壊の足音が、はっきりと聞こえた時代なのです。

バンドが迎えた新たな時代を象徴するのが1982年リリースの『EXTRA TERRESTRIAL LIVE』でした。この作品は’70年代のアングラ・サウンドから脱皮し、メタリックでありながらメロディアスな、’80年代の彼ららしいサウンドで、当時の新曲だけでなく代表曲をも再現していました。しかし同作は、’80年２月から’81年12月という長い期間の素材をまとめたもので、ドラムのテイクもアルバートのプレイと新メンバーのリック・ダウニーが混在していた。当時のムードを知るには充分でも、およそ統一感という点では、高い評価を認めにくい部分がありました。
その「統一感」をクリアし、リック・ダウニー加入後の新時代B.O.C.ライヴを公式並みのステレオ・サウンドボードで楽しませる素材として海外マニアが太鼓判を押しているのが、本作に収められた1982年９月24日のマサチューセッツ州ウースター公演です。この音源は過去にも３枚組コンピレーション『SUNDBOARD COLLECTION』（Uxbridge 305）の一部として登場し、国内のファンにもその魅力を知らしめていました。
今回はその同日音源を、海外マニア提供による新発掘・過去最長のニュー・マスターで音盤化。極上のクリアネスと公式感覚あふれるミックスで、以前は聴けなかったテイクまで、およそ68分間に渡りB.O.C.の饗宴を繰り広げます！

本ライヴはマサチューセッツのFM局”WAAF”が音楽番組「The Source」で放送したもの。当日序盤に演奏されていた「Dominance And Submission」など３曲はオンエアされなかったため、ここでは「This Ain’t The Summer Of Love」からのスタート。前述の公式ライヴでは未収録だったこの曲は、冒頭からいきなりの聴き所です。キチンと左右のチャンネルにセパレートされたメンバーのプレイに、ヘヴィに響くボトムの厚みも、既発とマスターの違いを感じさせます。
ハードな「Hot Rails To Hell」に続いて、新作からの「Joan Crawford」は、アラン・レーニアの流麗で劇的なピアノと、エリック・ブルームの野趣あふれる歌のコントラストが鮮やか！　すでに名曲の風格を放ち、シアトリカルな’80年代B.O.C.を凝縮した演奏が展開されます。これら新曲に並び、代表曲の「Cities On Flame」や「(Don’t Fear) The Reaper」まで時代を反映した豪奢なサウンドを得ている。メンバーが交代して様変わりしていくバンド・サウンドを、如実に感じる場面でしょう。中盤から後半にかけては、ベースやドラムのソロパートを含む「Godzilla」が、ライヴのハイライトを描き出す。クライマックスを飾る「Born To Be Wild」も、’70年代後半のレーザーショウから、ハーレーをステージに上げる演出へと移行している。こういった場面は映像でこそ、と思われるでしょうが、サウンドだけなのに、この場面は変化するB.O.C.の姿が目に浮かぶよう。
そしてラストが本作最大の聴き所！　『SUNDBOARD COLLECTION』など過去音源では未収録だった同日アンコールの「Burnin’ For You」が、ここで初登場します。シングルで全米トップ40入りした同曲で場内の盛り上がりも最高潮に達し、余韻たっぷりにライヴを締めくくります。

「ブルー・オイスター・カルトの歴史は、公式ライヴ作品で区分される」･･････ファンそして評論家の間で半ば格言のように用いられる表現です。その言葉を証明するように、B.O.C.の公式ライヴはバンドの各時代を個性たっぷりに浮き彫りしてきました。しかしバンドの転機となった『FIRE OF UNKNOWN ORIGIN』ツアーは、リック加入後のライヴを聴かねば（つまり公式だけでは！）、その真の姿を掴めない。1982年ブルー・オイスター・カルトを極上サウンドで満喫させる一本が、新発掘サウンドボードでここに登場です！
