BLONDIE right after his debut, when Gary Valentine was still enrolled. Introducing a live album where you can experience the legendary club that has been the root of the castle since the semi-professional era.
It was “December 23, 1976 New York performance” that was imbued with such a work. It is a superb audience recording that packs two performances a day at the legendary club “CBGB” that produced many heroes. BLONDIE’s debut work “Blondie” was released to the general public in January 1977, but the test press board was on December 9, 1976. While continuing to live in the suburbs of New York, he finished his debut album and finally hit the US … It’s a live album recorded just before that.
The quality of this work, which was vacuum-packed at the dawn site, is also excellent. It is the 2nd Gene Master (reel master dubbed from the 1st Gene Cassette) that was recently excavated, but because it is a narrow club, the feeling of close contact is wonderful, and it feels exactly “in front of you”. It approaches with a powerful guigui on the verge of being on the verge of a thick core. Even if you listen carefully with headphones, you can not feel the sound of the venue, the outline of each sound is clear and vivid, and the silent part is deep. The performances of the five people are beautifully separated, and the details are also super clear. I don’t know the details of the recording, but it may have been a recording of the material by the people involved. It seems that it is recorded so beautifully that it can not be helped. Although I understand that it is a spatial recording in terms of timbre, it is a great recording that goes beyond the distinction between soundboard and audience in terms of listening response.
The exquisite sound depicts the two stages that burn with the initial impulse. Here, let’s organize the two doses together.

まだゲイリー・バレンタインも在籍していたデビュー直後のBLONDIE。セミプロ時代から根城としていた伝説クラブを体験できるライヴアルバムが登場です。
そんな本作に吹き込まれているのは「1976年12月23日ニューヨーク公演」。数々の英雄たちを輩出した伝説クラブ“CBGB”での１日２公演を丸ごとパックした極上オーディエンス録音です。BLONDIEのデビュー作『妖女ブロンディ』が一般リリースされたのは1977年１月ですが、テスト・プレス盤は1976年12月９日。ニューヨーク近郊でライヴを続けつつデビュー作を仕上げ、いよいよ全米へ打って出る……その寸前に記録されたライヴアルバムなのです。
そんな黎明の現場を真空パックした本作は、クオリティも絶品。最近になって発掘された2ndジェネ・マスター（1stジェネ・カセットからダビングされたリール・マスター）なのですが、狭いクラブだけあって密着感が素晴らしく、まさに「目の前」感覚。オンで極太な芯がビビる寸前のド迫力なグイグイと迫るのです。ヘッドフォンで耳を澄ませても会場鳴りは感じられず、１音１音の輪郭もくっきり鮮やかで、無音部も深い。５人の演奏が綺麗にセパレートしており、それに伴ってディテールも超鮮明なのです。詳しい録音事情は分かっていないものの、もしかしたら関係者による資料録音だったのかも知れません。そう思えて仕方ないほど見事に録音されている。音色的に空間録音というのは分かるものの、聴き応えとしてはサウンドボード／オーディエンスの区別を超えた名録音なのです。
その絶品サウンドで描かれるのは、まさに初期衝動で燃え上がる２ステージ。ここでは２回分まとめて整理してみましょう。

……と、このようになっています。デビュー作『妖女ブロンディ』が軸なのは両ステージとも同じですが、その内容は大きく入れ替えられており、被っているのは「X Offender」のみ。２ステージ合わせてアルバム全11曲中８曲が取り上げられています。
そして、早くも2ndアルバム『囁きのブロンディ』ナンバーも披露。見慣れない曲名「Money Go Love」は「Fan Mail」の原曲ですし、「Moonlight Drive」はTHE DOORSのカバー。さらに、この後間もなく脱退するゲイリーがガールフレンド（リサ・パーズキー）と書いた未発表曲「Euphony」等々、極初期ならではの選曲が実に濃ゆい。他にも「Kung Fu Girl」や「A Shark In Jet’s Clothing」「Bermuda Triangle Blues」「Contact In Red Square」等々、70年代ならではのレパートリーが目白押しなのです。

激レア曲満載なセット、初期ショウで燃え上がる演奏、ゲイリー・バレンタイン入りのアンサンブル、超ダイレクトなサウンド、そして伝説クラブ“CBGB”に居合わせる臨場感……ありとあらゆるポイントが凄い。凄すぎる新発掘マスターです。「デビューアルバムの生演奏版」と書きかけましたが、気が変わりました。それ以上となる文化遺産そのものの１枚です。熱くむせ返る“70年代CBGB”の大気、どうぞ本作で胸いっぱいに吸い込んでください。
