Ritchie Blackmore’s super-private home live that has been a hot topic. Introducing a 2-disc set that combines the 3 types of released images with the highest quality.
The private video was shot on “March 28, 2020 (2 types)” and “April 9, 2020 (1 type)”. It’s not a concert, but a live performance at Ritchie’s home on Long Island. Speaking of Ritchie in recent years, the summer revival RAINBOW has become an annual event, but in 2020, only BLACKMORE’S NIGHT. It’s also very sporadic, and it seems that about 5 live performances are scheduled for June this year, but only one of the “June 11th New York performances” was announced. Considering the current situation of the new coronavirus, it is unpredictable whether it will be implemented.
That’s why only two people, Ritchie and Candice, appear in this work. Ritchie plays the guitar and Candice sings while talking with the couple. BLACKMORE’S NIGHT has always aimed for simple musicality, but this work is 100% pure and you can enjoy private home performance.
Moreover, the quality is the best. Since there is no cameraman, it is a so-called “YouTube” style of playing toward a fixed camera, but two people who play while sitting do not need camera work. You can witness the live performances of the two people with a feeling of closeness as if they were kneeling together. The original video released by Candice was flipped left and right as if it was reflected in a mirror, but this work has been corrected correctly and the image quality is also the highest version. And the voice is also the best. It’s not a so-called line recording, but the two use chitin and an amplifier for both vocals and guitar. The sound of the hall in my room creates a sense of privacy, but the singing voice is at the sigh level, and the sound of the guitar and fingertips rubbing the strings is clear.
Disc 1 contains two types of footage released on “March 28, 2020”, with a bonus of one “Vacuum and Dust” song, mainly for a long one of about one hour. Disc 2 has only one one-hour long video on “April 9, the same year”. It takes a total of 2 hours and 12 minutes to get into Ritchie’s home. As a matter of fact, depending on the song, I sometimes play with the tuning out of sync, but the feeling of relaxation is wonderful because it’s unpretentious.
And the performance is very delicious. Ritchie’s guitar is sharp and the inspirational phrases are dazzling. In the resurrection RAINBOW, I felt a blank as much as I could, but after all it was skillful with an acoustic guitar, and I could not feel any decline at all. The smooth playing conveys that you are playing on a daily basis, and you can feel how Ritchie and Candice usually spend their time.
BLACKMORE’S NIGHT always makes you feel Ritchie’s true face, but this work is the ultimate form. Live music that you can enjoy alone with your beloved wife at home. 話題を呼んでいるリッチー・ブラックモアの超プライベートな自宅ライヴ。公開された３種の映像を最高峰クオリティで集成した２枚組が登場です。
そのプライベート映像が撮影されたのは「2020年３月28日（２種）」と「同年４月９日（１種）」。コンサートではなく、ロングアイランドにあるリッチーの自宅でのライヴ演奏です。近年のリッチーと言えば、夏の復活RAINBOWが恒例となってきましたが、2020年はBLACKMORE’S NIGHTだけ。それも非常に散発的で、今年は６月に５回ほどのライヴが予定されているそうですが、具体的に発表されたのは“６月11日ニューヨーク公演”の１回のみ。それも現在の新型コロナ・ウィルスの状況を鑑みるに、実施されるか予断を許さないところです。
【100％プライベートな自宅ライヴ】
実のところ、この映像もまた現在の世界環境が生んだもの。パンデミックによって世界的に外出制限が行われており、リッチー＆キャンディスも自宅待機している。「出かけられないのなら……」と２人だけで演奏し、その様子をネット公開。本作はそのプライベート・ショットをDVD化したものなのです。
というわけで、本作に登場するのはリッチーとキャンディスの２人だけ。夫婦で語りながらリッチーがギターを弾き、キャンディスが歌っていく。BLACKMORE’S NIGHTは常に素朴な音楽性を旨としてきましたが、本作は100％ピュアでプライベートな自宅演奏を楽しめるのです。
しかもクオリティが極上。カメラマンがいないので固定カメラに向かって演奏するいわゆる“ユーチューバー”なスタイルなのですが、座ったままで演奏する２人にはカメラワークなど不要。それこそ膝をつき合わせるような間近感で２人の生演奏を目の当たりにできる。キャンディスが公開したオリジナル映像は鏡にでも映したように左右が反転されていましたが、本作は正しく直され、画質も最高峰版です。そして音声も極上。いわゆるライン録音ではないのですが、２人はヴォーカルもギターもキチンとアンプを使用。自室のホール鳴りがプライベート感覚を醸しつつも、歌声は吐息レベルでギターも指先が弦をこする音まで克明なのです。
ディスク１に収録されているのは「2020年３月28日」に公開された映像は２種で、約１時間の長尺物をメインに「Vacuum and Dust」１曲をボーナス追加。ディスク２は「同年４月９日」は１時間の長尺映像１種のみ。合計２時間12分に渡ってリッチーの自宅に上がり込めてしまうわけです。
【究極的にプリミティヴなブラックモア・ミュージックの真髄】
そんな映像美で描かれる音楽は、まさに珠玉。基本的に「２だけのBLACKMORE’S NIGHT」であり、オリジナル曲と共に、さまざまなトラッドやカバーがレパートリー。しかも、２日間で内容がまったく違う。ここでカンタンに整理してみましょう。

……と、このようになっています。バックのいない２人だけのアンサンブルは極めてプリミティヴで、上記の曲以外にも有名曲や即興のフレーズも飛び交い、えらく自由。もちろん、そうしたスタイルはロック時代から変わっていませんが、本作はその極み。会話がいつの間にか曲になっていたり、演奏中に楽器のセッティングをしたり……。元々ブラックモア・ミュージックの「核」が透けるプロジェクトではあるものの、ここでは「核しかない」。それだけ素が炙り出されているからこそメロディの美しさは際立ち、ロマンティシズムは滴り落ちるような芳醇さ。実のところ、曲によってはチューニングがズレたまま演奏していたりもするのですが、それだけ気取らないからこそのリラックス感が素晴らしいのです。
そして、演奏が何とも滋味深い。リッチーのギターはキレも鮮やかで、閃きに満ちたフレーズも眩しい。復活RAINBOWでは思いっきりブランクを感じさせたものの、やはりアコギだと巧く、衰えなどまったく感じられない。滑らかな演奏ぶりには日常的に弾いている事が伝わって来ますし、リッチーとキャンディスが普段どうやって過ごしているのかが肌感覚で感じられるのです。
常にリッチーの素顔を感じさせてくれるBLACKMORE’S NIGHTですが、本作はその究極形。自宅で愛妻と２人だけで楽しむ生演奏。それが手を伸ばせば触れられそうなほど目の前で味わえる映像作品です。今年一番の……いえ、BLACKMORE’S NIGHTの歴代ベスト映像と言っても良いでしょう。世界的な苦境に苛まれる今だからこそ生まれた傑作。どうぞ、じっくりとお楽しみください。
