1994年にジョン・サイクスとスコット・ゴーハムがフィル・ライノットトリビュートという形でTHIN LIZZYを再結成し、1994年11月に日本でのみスペシャルなトリビュート・ライヴ・ツアーが実現。その後もジョン・サイクスの脱退や激しいメンバーの入れ替わり、紆余曲折を経ながらスコット・ゴーハムが中心になりTHIN LIZZYの名前は守られ続けていました。その活動の中でスコット・ゴーハムは新たな音源、新作を作ることを考えるもTHIN LIZZYの名前を使うことに周囲の反対や違和感を感じBLACK STAR RIDERSと改名。

スコット・ゴーハム、そしてBLACK STAR RIDERSの名のもとに集まったメンバーは1994年のTHIN LIZZY復活時から参加しているマルコ・メンドーサ（WHITESNAKE、BLUE MURDER、SYKES）、近年ボーカルを務めていたリッキー・ウォリック（THE ALMIGHTY）に新たにジミー・デグラッソ（Y&T、MEGADETH）とデイモン・ジョンソン（ALICE COOPER BAND、SAMMY HAGAR BAND）。このメンバーで作製されたアルバム「ALL HELL BREAKS LOOSE」は完全にTHIN LIZZYの遺伝子を継ぐ、THIN LIZZYそのものと言える作品となりました。随所に聞かせる流麗なツインギター、キャッチーでノリのよい楽曲からTHIN LIZZY節と言っても良いアイリッシュテイスト溢れる重厚な楽曲までTHIN LIZZYの持つ要素が全て揃っており、それも「脱獄」「悪名」「ブラック・ローズ」といった70年代の黄金期の作品を彷彿させる内容にマニアから大絶賛されました。BLACK STAR RIDERSなんてTHIN LIZZYの偽物だろうという意見もあるようですがそういった見方をしている方にはこのライブを聴いて頂きたいです。考え方が変わると思います。

その素晴らしいアルバムを引っ提げての来日となりましたが、新作からの曲も勿論ですがやはり多くのファンが期待するのはTHIN LIZZYの曲であるのも事実。その期待に大きく応えたライブとなりました。ライブは新作の1曲目を飾った「All Hell Breaks Loose」から重厚にスタート、2曲目で70年代末から80年代初期にオープニングを飾ったライブのみで披露されていた「Are You Ready」。オーディエンスは大いに盛り上がります。その後も新作とTHIN LIZZYの名曲を交互に披露される形でライブは進んでいきます。「Bad Reputation」、「Jailbreak」といった代表曲から「Massacre」、「Southbound」といった渋い曲も披露されます。

ライブが進んで気づくのがTHIN LIZZYの名曲の間で披露されるBLACK STAR RIDERSの楽曲がライブの流れで全く違和感がないことです。それだけ新作からの曲がTHIN LIZZYを彷彿させる楽曲が多いです。ＰＶも作られたTHIN LIZZY節全開のリーダートラック「Hey Judas」、アイリッシュテイスト溢れる「Bloodshot」、「Waiting For An Alibi」を彷彿させる「Bound for Glory」、名曲「Black Rose」の続編のような抒情的なアルバムそしてライブでもハイライトチューンとなった「Kingdom of the Lost」など新曲であっても聴きどころは多いです。

THE ALMIGHTY時代はパンキッシュなロック・メタルをやっていたリッキー・ウォリックの歌声が意外なくらいフィル・ライノットによく似ており、THIN LIZZYの曲を歌っても違和感を感じません。リッキー・ウォリックは曲によりギターも担当し要所要所でトリプルギターによるハーモニーも聞かせます。20年ぶりの来日となったスコット・ゴーハムもルックスとともに衰えを感じさせることのない流麗なプレーを聞かせます。御馴染のマルコ・メンドーサのロックスター然とした佇まい。THIN LIZZYと縁の無いメンバーながらジミー・デグラッソとデイモン・ジョンソンもキャリアがあるメンバーだけになんら問題のないプレーを聞かせます。直前までアメリカツアーをしていただけあってバンドの演奏はタイトそのものです。バンドは日本公演直後にまたアメリカツアーを始めるタフさです。

ライブは終盤のTHIN LIZZYの一大叙事詩「Emerald」でピークを迎えますリッキー・ウォリックもギターを持ちトリプルギターで再現される同曲は壮大そのものです。ライブ本編最後は永遠の名曲「The Boys Are Back in Town」で終了。アンコールはカバー曲でありながらもはやTHIN LIZZYの楽曲と言っても過言ではない「Whiskey in the Jar」と「Rosalie」が披露され大盛り上がりのなか約1時間40分に及んだライブの幕が閉じます。

録音は２階指定席の最前列からです。同会場で同テーパーが録音したMICHAEL SCHENKER’S TEMPLE OF ROCK「BRIDGE THE GAP IN OSAKA」、WINGER/Y&Tの「NAMBA RCOK CITY」とほぼ同じポジションになりますが、音の傾向も似ており２階席でありながらも距離的なロスは一切なく、高い音圧と圧倒的なクリアネスでバンドが発する楽音を一音も漏らさず捉え切っています。あくまでも盛り上がってる1階席の様子を俯瞰的に2階席から適度に捕えているだけで周囲のオーディエンスノイズは皆無といえます。この日はPAからの出音が少し分離感にかける音でしたが、塊のような分厚い音がこのバンドの音楽性には合っているとも言えます。バンドの特長といえるツインリードギター、場合によってはトリプルリードギターも綺麗に捕えられています。このテーパーの録音はどれも素晴らしいものばかりですが、今回は、会場の出音が良かったのか、特に優れたサウンドで収録されています。圧巻のステージが大きな評判を呼んだ、BLACK STAR RIDERSの最新ライヴを、圧巻のスーパーサウンドで余すことなく収録した2014年大阪公演の決定版！！好評ZODIACレーベルより、プレスCDタイトルで登場です。
