 BLACK SABBATHが1975年に発表した「SABOTAGE」に伴うツアーでは、’75年8月5日のニュージャージー州アスバリー・パーク公演のステレオ・ライン音源を頂点に、9月4日のサンタ・モニカ公演を収録したプロショット映像など、素晴らしい素材が多く残されています。もちろんオーディエンス録音でも、8月3日のプロヴィデンス公演を捉えた「MEGALOMANIA」(Shades)のように優れたソースが多いのですが、これらの多くはアメリカツアーにおけるソースです。しかしイギリスツアーにおいても、本作「SUPERSONIC YEARS」のように、聴くべきアイテムはしっかりと存在しています。

 この音源は’75年10月22日、ロンドンの”ハマースミス・オデオン”におけるライヴを、当時としては極上といって差し支えない優れたオーディエンス録音で完全収録しています。マスターに欠落が見られた「Supertzar」と、1曲目の「Killing Yourself To Live」序盤約10秒こそアナログ時代から知られた同日音源で補填しているものの、それ以降は近年発掘された最上級マスターを使用。その鮮度の高さ、音の抜けの見事さにはだれもが驚く事でしょう(実際に音の変わり目では「ココまで違うのか」と実感させられます)。リマスター作業によって元マスターに見られた多くのノイズも可能な限り除去されており、同日音源の中では本作が間違いなく最高峰であると断言できる高音質盤へと仕上げられています。
 「Hole In The Sky」そして「Symptom Of The Universe」と、攻撃性の高い楽曲が散りばめられた「SABOTAGE」ツアーならではのセットは、SABBATHがドゥーム・ロックから本格的なヘヴィメタルへと発展しつつある途上のライヴを描き出しています。この時期からアイオミのギターはメタリックなエッジに磨きが掛かり、「Snowblind」や「War Pigs」といったおなじみの楽曲も、’72年頃とは大きく印象が違ってきているのが理解できます。またジャム風の演奏を各所に散りばめたショウは、’70年代的ハードロックの旨みも感じます。オジーのMCから自然発生するようにアイオミ,ギーザー,ビルらによるジャムが始まる「Light Goes Off」、各人のソロだけでなく「Iron Man」や、「TECHNICAL ECSTASY」に先駆けて演奏された「Rock and Roll Doctor」(歌なしの初期型)など多様な楽曲を内包した長大な「Sabbra Cadabra」メドレーは、中期オリジナルSABBATHらしい魅力的な演奏を最高の聴き応えで楽しむ事ができます(「Sabbra Cadabra」ではこのツアーからバンドに参加したジェラルド・ウッドルフのプレイもしっかりフィーチャーされています)。’70年代におけるライヴでしか聴けない「Sometimes I’m Happy」、ドラムソロから自然に流れていく「Supernaut」に「Iron Man」も、当時のジャムセッション・パートならではの見せ場を演出しています。「Black Sabbath」に続くライヴのハイライト「Spiral Architect」も、優れたオーディエンス・サウンドでしっかりと楽しむ事ができます。
