そんなクオリティは「アズベリーパーク75のベスト」では収まらなかった。70年代サバスの頂点サウンドボードと言えば、伝統の公式盤『LIVE AT LAST』や『PARANOID』スーパーデラックス・エディションで公式化された『MONTREUX 1970』がありますが、『LIVE LONGEST… DIE AT LAST』はそれらと並び3大サウンドボードに数えられた。実のところ、その凄まじいクオリティは海を越えて話題となり、トニー・アイオミやオジー・オズボーン本人さえもが『LIVE LONGEST… DIE AT LAST』を欲しがったほどなのです(関係筋によると無事に手に入れられたそうです)。

【70年代でも唯一無二のSABOTAGE TOUR】
そんな“てっぺん”サウンドで描かれるショウがまた最高峰。『SABOTAGE』までの美味しい超名曲がたっぷりと演奏され、アンアンブルも脂がたっぷりとのって熟しつつ、腐ってはいない。再編サバスでも演奏しなかった「Hole In The Sky」「Megalomania」が美味しすぎますし、70年代の特徴であるジャムタイムも中期ならではの「Sabbra Cadabra」バージョン。そのジャムメドレーからシームレスに演奏される「Iron Man」「Black Sabbath」も、大定番ながら実は『LIVE AT LAST』では聴けなかった曲だったりします。
個々の曲も聴きどころですが、ショウ構成自体もポイント。実のところ、70年代サバスの歴史を俯瞰してみますと、大きく3つに分けられます。まず「デビューから1974年まで」は新曲を加えながらマイナーチェンジの繰り返し。少しずつ進化していきました。逆に末期の「1976年-1978年」は基本構造が同じで『TECHNICAL ECSTASY』『NEVER SAY DIE!』の新曲が多少入れ替わる程度でした。
それに対し、本作の“SABOTAGE TOUR”は構造からまるで違う。「Killing Yourself To Live」がオープニングを務め、「Symptom Of The Universe」も中盤。前述した「Hole In The Sky」「Megalomania」も独特なら、サポート・キーボーディスト:ジェラルド・ウッドルフを帯同させたことでオーケストレーションが可能になった「Spiral Architect」も披露される。すべてが頂点的でありながら、他ツアーとはまったく異なる特別なショウなのです。

まさに最高傑作。まさに絶対盤。70年代BLACK SABBATHの頂点を更新した史上最高峰のライヴアルバムです。マスター本来の真実を収めたオリジナル・エディションの価値は些かも衰えませんが、聴いてエキサイトできるのは間違いなく本作。伝説を超えられるのは伝説しかなかった。オリジナルBLACK SABBATHの究極体験、永久保存プレス2CDで存分にお楽しみください。

Recently discovered new master, it is even more beautiful than the version recorded “THE OZZY OSBOURNE YEARS ULTIMATE EDITION” which was said to be the best!
Master freshness is wonderful over anything. “THE OZZY OSBOURNE YEARS ULTIMATE EDITION” was also a visual beauty that was not comparable with the VHS era, but still there is a roughness of aged deterioration on the screen, if you attach the pillow of “in the 70’s”, you can call it “superb” It was a level not to be bad. However, this work is extremely glossy without even modest roughness. Ozzy Osbourne’s fringe is brilliant until one shake, and Tony-Iomi’s cross is glittering. A drum set that imitates a shellfish and a single grain of snow falling asleep at “Snowblind” is super clear. If it is about omake of the box, it is a quality that can be formulated as it is.
The wonderfulness of the show drawn with such upgrade video is unnatural. There is no change in the scale of 5 songs only for broadcast master, but its contents are special. What is the best is the opening three songs “Killing Yourself To Live” “Hole In The Sky” “Snowblind”! The flow of concentrating medieval trilogy “VOL.4”, “SABBATH BLOODY SABBATH” and “SABOTAGE” in the 70s with highlight of one song is too high. In the 1970 period right after the debut, the perfume of the middle term is different, which is also different from the year before the demolition in 1978. “Killing Yourself To Live” which was a few times in the re-formation era is valuable, but more than that is “Hole In The Sky”. これが“SABOTAGE TOUR 1975-1976”の全体像。当時の記録にはあやふやな点もあるので公演数までは厳密ではありませんが、おおよその流れはイメージしていただけると思います。この中で、本編プレス2CDのアズベリーパーク公演は「北米#1」の14公演目、本作のサンタモニカ公演は28公演目にあたるコンサートでした。
このショウを収めたプロショットは、長年のファンにはお馴染み中のお馴染み。伝説的な“カリジャム74”と並び、70年代中期の代表映像であり続けてきました。それだけにVHS時代から幾度となくアップグレードを繰り返してきましたが、本作はその最高峰版。最近になって発掘された新マスターで、これまでベストと言われていた『THE OZZY OSBOURNE YEARS ULTIMATE EDITION』収録バージョンよりも更に美しい!
何よりも素晴らしいのはマスター鮮度。『THE OZZY OSBOURNE YEARS ULTIMATE EDITION』もVHS時代とは比較にならない映像美でしたが、それでも画面には経年劣化の荒れがあり、「70年代にしては」の枕詞を付ければ「極上」と呼べなくもないというレベルでした。ところが、本作にはささやかな荒れさえもなく極めて艶やか。オジー・オズボーンのフリンジは1本1本の揺れまで鮮やかで、トニー・アイオミの十字架もギラギラと眩しい。貝を模したドラムセットや「Snowblind」で降りしきる吹雪の1粒まで超クッキリ。ボックスのオマケ程度であれば、そっくりそのまま公式化できるクオリティなのです。
そんなアップグレード映像で描かれるショウの素晴らしさは感無量。放送マスターだけに5曲という尺は変わりようがありませんが、その中身は特濃。何と言っても最高なのは冒頭3曲「Killing Yourself To Live」「Hole In The Sky」「Snowblind」! 70年代の中期3部作『VOL.4』『SABBATH BLOODY SABBATH』『SABOTAGE』を1曲ずつのハイライトで濃縮した流れが最高すぎる。デビュー直後の1970年とも解体間際の1978年とも違う中期の薫りが満点。再結成時代にはホンの数回だった「Killing Yourself To Live」も貴重ですが、それ以上なのは「Hole In The Sky」。長い歴史でも“SABOTAGE TOUR”でしか演奏されておらず、映像はもちろん本作だけ。それをオフィシャル・クオリティのマルチカメラ・プロショットで目撃できるのは至福以外の何物でもありません。
もちろん、残り2曲の大定番「War Pigs」「Paranoid」も脂の乗りきった1975年のポテンシャルが爆発。初々しさの残るブリュッセル70(かつてパリ70とされていた映像)や崩壊間際の『NEVER SAY DIE』とは違う、黄金時代の本領に溢れ返ったパフォーマンスです。
