A vintage soundboard album will be released as a gift. What is recorded in this work is the FM broadcast of “October 29, 1976, Miami performance” 40 years ago. At that time, it was about half a year since the release of “TURNSTILES”, and Billy was only 27 years old. It is a piece with a youthful singing voice and a piano that can be played freshly.

なんともヴィンテージなサウンドボード・アルバムがギフト・リリース決定です。本作に記録されているのは、今を去ること40年前「1976年10月29日マイアミ公演」のFM放送。当時は『TURNSTILES』のリリースから約半年にあたり、ビリー若干27歳。若々しい歌声と瑞々しく弾けるピアノがたっぷりと吹き込まれた１枚です。
そのサウンドは、初めて聴いても懐かしさを覚えるヴィンテージ感覚。モノラルのFM放送は「公式リリース可能」と呼べるタイプのものではありませんが、その空気感は古いラジオの暖かみそのもの。再生すると冒頭「Angry Young Man」でマスター劣化のヨレたサウンドに驚かれるかも知れませんが、それもこの１曲だけ。その後は安定し、アナログ感覚たっぷりながら力強いサウンドがコンサート全編を伝えてくれるのです。
そのコンサートもまた、40年前の空気感満載。若々しさもさることながら、披露される名曲の数々からして目と胸に染みる。当時新作の『TURNSTILES』から「All You Wanna Do Is Dance」以外の全曲が演奏されるだけなく、『PIANO MAN』からも「Stop in Nevada」「If I Only Had the Words (To Tell You)」以外の全曲が飛び出し、そこに『STREETLIFE SERENADE』の３曲がまぶされる。これだけ重点的に演奏するのですから、前述の「Angry Young Man」をはじめ、「Worse Comes To Worst」「Ain’t No Crime」「James」といった隠れた名曲も盛りだくさん。“最近はご無沙汰”というより、“今まで何回演奏したの？”・“そもそも、やったことあったのか……”という次元のレア度に目眩がしそう。もちろん、その反対に「Piano Man」「The Entertainer」「New York State of Mind」「Ballad of Billy the Kid」「Miami 2017」といった人気曲の数々も、当時ならではの歌声でたっぷりと聴かせてくれるのです。
さらに、その合間に魅せるビリーのユーモアも最高。「今日はラジオ中継ということで、たくさんのゲストが来てくれています。後で紹介するよ」と語るのですが、実はゲストなんかいやしない。曲間でビリー自身がブルース・スプリングスティーンやポール・サイモン、ジョー・コッカーのモノマネをするのです。これがまたソックリで、観客も大喜び。そのセレクトもマネっぷりも、1976年ならでは。もう、本作をかけているだけで、70年代半ばの匂いが部屋中に充満して、むせ返りそうになるのです。
