The UXBRIDGE label has been following Billy Joel’s latest live tour since 2022, but this time we will release a transcendental audience album that makes you want to declare it the ultimate.

2022年を迎えてからのビリー・ジョエル最新ライブツアーをフォローしてきたUXBRIDGEレーベルですが、今回は正に究極と断言したくなる超絶オーディエンス・アルバムをリリースいたします。
それは6月25日のノートル・ダム公演を収録したウルトラ・ハイクオリティなオーディエンス録音。何しろオンな音像で、中でもビリーの歌声とピアノの近さといったら、もう完全にサウンドボード。
これは完全にプレスCDでリリースできてしまうレベルの超絶録音なクオリティ。会場となったノートルダム・スタジアムのような広大な会場において、いったいどうしたらこんな近い音像で演奏を捉えることができるのか。そのあまりの高音質ぶりには唖然とするしかありません。
この日のメニューはいつものMSGを離れてのアウェイなショーということからスタンダード選曲な構成となっていますが、それでも「An Innocent Man」の前ではローリング・ストーンズの「Brown Sugar」始めてみたり（この日はビリーが歌わずさわりだけですが）と相変わらずの余裕。
さらに今度はエルトン・ジョンの「Don’t Let The Sun Go Down On Me」を弾きだしてはみたものの、あまり歌詞が思えだせないようで代わりに観客に合唱させてみたかと思えば、同じ「Sun」が付く曲名であることから思いついたであろうビートルズの「Here Comes The Sun」をビリーが歌い出しています。
ご存じのように原曲はジョージ・ハリスンがアコースティック・ギターで弾いていたのですが、器用にもビリーはピアノでそのフレーズをポロポロ弾き始めてしまうのがお見事。あくまで思い付きの演奏であったことからワンコーラスの演奏で終わってしまうのですが、それでも非常に面白い場面なのです。
こうしたレアな場面はもちろんですが、もはやベストアルバム状態といっても過言ではない最強セットリストと盤石のバンドがビリーを支える演奏。それもまた今回のサウンドボードかと錯覚してしまいそうなほどの超高音質な録音のおかげで安心して聞き込めることかと。
これまでUXBRIDGEレーベルがリリースしてきたビリーの最新ライブ音源はどれも素晴らしいクオリティだったのですが、今回のノートル・ダムは頭一つどころか三つくらい抜き出た超絶クオリティ。
