The Beatles’ masterpiece “White Album” has a famous episode on the American edition. It was given the opportunity for George, who had come to the U.S. just before the completion of the album, to listen to the lacquer board for the release that Capitol Records had originally prepared, but when he asked him, he was outraged at the finish and ordered the album to be remastered just before the release. This incident was reported in the fan club bulletin Beatles Monthly, etc., and it was a fact known from that time.

But thankfully, the mania who owns this megalea board made it a file and published it on the net. That’s the gift CD-R. Certainly, there is no difference in mix if you ask. However, the texture of the sound is completely different, and it is more and more different than the current remastered CD and distribution. It was only called “Compressed Mix”, and the separation is not as clear as the current sound source remastered with modern technology, and it has a really analog finish.
It’s true that the overall texture is rough, and i’m sure George didn’t like this point. However, since the original recording is a rough album (laughs), it is also true that this is a sound quality that can be enjoyed enough with this.
Of course, the difference is easy to understand when you compare it around “While My Guitar Gotly Weeps” including the opening “Back In The U.S.S.R.” or the album’s second “Everybody’s Got Something To Hide Best Me And My Monkey”, but surprisingly surprising “Martha My” “Dear” sounds powerful, and it may have seemed strange from George’s point of view. For example, I think that the difference is easier to understand when you compare listening to the delivery version on your smartphone by capturing this.
Unfortunately, the mix was not a different version, but you can still easily enjoy mastering a different heretic existence. And above all, it is a luxurious gift CD-R that is sure to come in handy for maniacs that you can listen to the megarea initial press of the work that is very difficult to obtain easily. ビートルズの名盤「ホワイト・アルバム」はアメリカ盤に有名なエピソードがあります。それはキャピトル・レコードが最初に用意したリリース用のラッカー盤がアルバムの完成直前に渡米していたジョージが試聴するという機会に恵まれたものの、いざ聞いてみた彼はその仕上がりに憤慨、リリース直前というタイミングながらアルバムのマスタリングのやり直しを命じたのです。この一件に関してはファンクラブ会報ビートルズ・マンスリーなどでも報じられており、当時から知られた事実でした。
ところがこの話に尾ひれがつき始め「ミックスが違うらしい」といった噂が囁かれるようになります。実際にヤフー知恵袋などでも質問の議題に上がるほどなのですが、結果から言うとミックス違いではなく「マスタリング違い」だったのです。
一応ジョージがNGを出したとはいえ、リリース直前で最初に作られたスタンパー（”A-28”）からレコードもプレスされており、ごく少数ながらも市場に出回ってしまいました。当然マニア垂涎のレア・アイテムと化し、今年に入ってからもe-bayにて「LOST HARRISON WHITE ALBUM」と喧伝されたメガレア・バージョンの落札価格は何と64万円にも上ったほど。

しかしありがたいことに、このメガレア盤を所有しているマニアがファイルにしてネット上に公開してくれたのです。それが今回のギフトCD-R。確かに聞いてみればミックスの違いはない。しかし音の質感はまるで違っていて、現行のリマスターCDや配信と比べるといよいよ違う。”Compressed Mix”と称されただけのことはあり、現代のテクノロジーでリマスターされた現行音源ほど分離がはっきりしておらず、いかにもアナログ然とした仕上がり。
確かに全体的な質感は荒々しさの漂うもので、なるほどジョージはこの点が気に入らなかったのでしょう。しかし元の録音が荒々しいアルバム（笑）ですので、これはこれで十分に楽しめる音質なのも事実。
当然オープニングの「Back In The U.S.S.R.」をはじめとして「While My Guitar Gently Weeps」、あるいはアルバム二枚目の「Everybody’s Got Something To Hide Except Me And My Monkey」辺りで聞き比べるとその違いは分かりやすいのですが、意外や意外「Martha My Dear」のような曲も迫力があるように聞こえ、それがジョージからすると違和感に映ったのかもしれません。例えばこれを取り込んでスマホで配信版と聞き比べるとさらに違いが分かりやすいのではないでしょうか。
残念ながらミックスが違うバージョンではなかったのですが、それでも感触の違う異端児的な存在のマスタリングが手軽に楽しめる。そして何よりも簡単に入手するのが至難の業のメガレア最初期プレスを聞けてしまうという、マニアにとって重宝すること間違いなしの贅沢なギフトCD-R。ぜひ本アイテムにて幻のアメリカ盤ホワイト・アルバムをお試しください。
